Before he opened the door to the ritual room he turned toward Andrew and told him. “And I see that fire in her Mother’s eyes.”
Shadow opened the door and reached for the light switch that his Master had installed after electricity was discovered. The transformation room was still dark even with the light on. No windows had ever been planned for this room because a Vampire had to be with his Mate during the transformation. The dark rock walls lent even more darkness to the room, and a somewhat eerie feeling.
In the center of the room was a bed of stone about four feet high. Shadow had placed a down-feather mattress on top of the stone for comfort. In one corner the tub for cleansing after the worst of the transformation was complete. Shedding

The transfer to Fay could sometimes take days.
Shadow watched as Andrew placed the candles on all four sides of the stone bed. Then he placed the bag of jewels on the altar for later use. Andrew walked around the bed imitating the ritual and whispering the words he would use. After he did this a couple times he felt he was ready.
Shadow went stiff as he felt Rae wake with a stress level beyond anything he had felt from her so far. Andrew asked “Shadow, what?” Shadow was gone before he could answer.
Shadow burst into Rae’s room to find her sitting on her bed in hysterics and shaking so hard it scared him. Shadow jumped on the bed and grabbed Rae yelling. “Goddess, what is it? What has happened?” He looked her over for injuries. When he found non he pulled her in tight and hugged her until her trembling slackened.
Rae was trying to yell only her voice was too shaky. “I left Will alone last night. I left her to do all the work. I didn’t even call her. She is probably freaking out.” Shadow pushed her back so that he could see her eyes. “Listen to me everything is okay, your mother called Will, and I… let us say I persuaded your night manager to go back to work a few days early. I’m sorry I didn’t say anything. I guess with all the excitement it slipped my
She didn’t look at him. She looked at the shadow of him that pooled at her feet and burned the
He opened the broad oaken door into absolute darkness and began to walk down the stairs. Suddenly, the hewn leather of his shoes slipped on the tired stone and Brother Malcolm plummeted down the stairs, spiralling downwards, making constant, violent contact with each uneven stone. The sharp crack of the stone striking his back made a grim rhythm for his fall.
Tessa not wanting to ruin their night pushes out the words, ”No, I’m fine. I want to check it out.”
“Hello?” called a voice. Adam, Aurelia thought, her mind jumping to the boy she had met the day before. She opened the door, and there he was. He looked upset.
She was worried about him? Why? He waited for an answer and then remembered she could no longer read his mind. She began pulling him, her back toward the opening. That was too dangerous.
A flicker of uneasiness coursed through Kat and she strained to hear more, but they became aware of her presence and their voices trailed off. Holdups?
He looked down at the floor and panic filled his eyes just as it did when she first saw him. “Please come here.” Ronan whispered almost too quiet for her to hear.
“It is a big, airy room, the whole floor nearly, with windows that look all ways, and air and sunshine galore. It was a nursery first and then playroom and gymnasium, I should judge; for the windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things on the walls.” (77)
He ducked his head and glanced at the tunnel ceiling as if he could find inspiration there. At last he cleared his throat and looked her in the eye. “Marisol. I apologize profusely for doubting you. Words cannot express my sincere remorse. I do not know what I was thinking.” Here, he gave her a stern look. “Although, it may have had something to do with how you lied to us for weeks. Or possibly because you stole a most valued possession from the bosom of the family who took you in and made you one of their own.” Ignoring my scowl, he continued. “But most likely, it was simply because of how…you broke my
“Why won’t you talk to me? Tara, I…I know this is probably the last place you want to be right now, with me, but…”
Audette awoke on the slab in a sweat. She felt different. A draft provided by the open doors of the Temple gave her the motivation to climb down from the altar, as her eyes adjusted to the dimness within the chapel's main chamber she glanced again towards the stone square set into the blackened walls.
I stepped into the room quietly, and turned around to look behind me. I could have sworn that a shadow brushed past me, but I saw nothing else there. Stunned, I immediately left the room to go back to
Rae closed her eyes and started rocking and repeating “I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming.” Then she felt her mother’s hand on her shoulder. “No Ra, you’re not dreaming.”
Tank’s brow furrowed and his eyes darted about as if he was searching for a place to hide. His heart raced as he contemplated a life that would not be on the front line with Special Forces.
A fire quickly took and grew in size to create a warm glow that was more comforting than the harsh light of the sun. The man stood, now illuminated by the light of the fire. He wore a long black coat that hung just above his ankles. Fur lined the collar, hem, and lapel and jutted out in untamed beauty. His expression remained the same as he swept the hair from his eyes and turned back around. He approached the dressers set at the foot of the cot, carefully opening the top most drawing. The squeak of wood rubbing against itself filled the room, along with the soft clink of
