White walls. White walls and white clothed people, rushing in and out faster and more frequently than he was sure he was currently breathing. Cancer. He didn’t know where it started, or how it spread, or where to… but his whole body ached and he could barely keep his eyes open anymore. It wasn’t the cancer’s fault, they’d already removed the growth and were simply finishing with radiation, but the radiation was kicking his ass.
“How are you today, Mr. Nelson?”, “Have you been able to eat?”, “Has anyone visited today?” all these questions tended to blur together anyway, and he had trouble answering correctly. He was always so tired, exhausted, and nauseous; but, if he had to compare, he was almost certain Matt Murdock was in worse shape

He would never leave, downright refused. The smell of the hospital, the chemicals pumped into his friend, his partner, possibly the love of his life… It made him sick. So sick, in fact, that sometimes, when all Foggy had to vomit was bile, Matt lost his lunch for him. He was a wreck. Although he couldn’t see, the mere idea of Foggy being so miserable hurt his heart and made it hard to swallow.
“You doing ok?” It had been relatively quiet in the room when Matt had asked, able to hear Foggy’s heartbeat despite the other loud sounds drowning it out. Beeping and footstep echoes and pained screaming… He tried to center his attention solely on the slow, familiar heartbeat he recognized as the man he fell in love with in

He couldn’t look at Matt too long, it made him scared; he was so, so terrified to see the man he always thought was the strongest man alive look so… so weak. He could imagine Matt thought the same, but on a slightly different plane without the aid of sight. “You don’t have to worry about me, buddy, I got constant watch on me.” he tapped the plastic handle of the nurse’s call button for emphasis, hoping the gentle noise would help Matt center on the room they were currently in. The expression on his best friend’s face only broke his heart more. “Matt, the doctors said I’m fine. Only, like, a month more of this. Then I can get back with you and Karen, work in the office again, get shit done. Come on, Matt, believe me.”
Matt did believe him, he had no reason not to, it was just that right now was too much for him. He held tightly onto Foggy’s free hand, almost hard enough to displace something, as he felt his face twist and his throat tighten. In seconds, he was crying.
It felt like a stab. Seeing Matt cry hurt Foggy more than any tumor in the world. “Buddy, it’s gonna be alright… Really, just one month more. I’ve been strong for you, I got through this, you gotta get through just this last
After his lunch break, Tom didn’t have long to wait before the paramedics burst in through the swinging double-doors of the ambulance bay wheeling in a young man on a gurney. Edward, a veteran EMT, recited the vital signs to Tom and Dr. Greene as they helped push the gurney into the trauma room,
This essay will discuss how the artists James Brown and Michael Jackson have influenced modern day artists and music. The term 'executive pay' has acquired bad connotations over the past decade or so and the recent Occupy Wall Street movement brought this issue back into public consciousness on a worldwide scale (Minder, 2013). In Switzerland, the parliament recently passed legislation that would limit executive compensation excesses under threat of fines and imprisonment and the European Parliament agreed to limit banker bonuses to twice their base salaries. Adding fuel to this fire was last month's announcement that the golden parachute for departing Novartis Chairman Daniel Vasella would include a $78 million dollar severance payment.
During the late 1920’s and 1930’s, Hitler and Stalin were leaders of Germany and the Soviet Union respectively. These states were under fascist and communist rule, which essentially were very similar. It was due to their full run of government that resulted in a dictatorial rule, also known as totalitarianism. Civilians’ lives were regulated in every aspect, some of which were their property and the military forces. Both parties used propaganda to bring awareness of their movement’s ideologies to their states in hopes that they would influence a large number of civilians, or if anything, all of them. The most comparable and recognizable aspect of fascism and communism was the fact that both Hitler and Stalin wanted a radical change for
Her eyes moving from to the other as they each spoke, but her ears hearing as if they stood on the far side of a wall. All the ley energy she had pulled was finally drained away to leave her hollow. The echo was pin-pricks of pain over her skin. She had drank too deeply and dropped it all too quickly. She was going to be paying for it for quite some time. Ethan's voice turning stern cleared some of the fog. Elisa blinked at him as he tucked the box and the mask within into his bag. She wanted to tell him to leave it
His head felt like it was going to split. He wanted to scream for help. Do what, Matt? He couldn't stop. Couldn't Matt see it?
To say that she had been worried when Matt had no-showed on her yesterday would be an understatement to Alicia Clark, who spent the remainder of the day anxiously sending her boyfriend texts once in a while hoping to goad a response from him. It was very uncharacteristic of him to ignore her, which left her more worried than she had been about anything lately - even Chris, who'd been found in the hospital after yet another of his benders and left her wondering if he even cared about her at all.... She was grateful to have someone like Matt around, who understood how deeply her brother's relapse affected her. Not that he'd know right now though....
Phyllis, looking for another beer moves closer to the target, slowly taping William on the shoulder. Exploiting a special smile, a little cleavage, and the stage is set, tilting the odds skyrocketing in her favor, all part of a routine designed to render her prey helpless. Once the Black Widow catches his attention he reacts as planned, slurring over his Scotch.
Nell passed out trays to the customers, just like she usually did, but this time, it was quietly and sadly, not like her usual self. Even though the coffeehouse the packed full with men, the whole place was filled with sadness and despair. “Poor Mattie, why did she have to go?” cried Nathaniel, leaning over the ornate coffin.
Whoever said the early bird catches the worm deserved to be shot. Genevieve pulled the blankets higher over her head after slapping her blaring alarm off. For the time being anyway. Give it 15 minutes and it would be going off again, simply because she knew one alarm would just not cut it. Maybe she could attempt to sleep through the second alarm. Or maybe it was the third? Oh well. Genevieve dozed off again, zoning back into consciousness a full half hour after what was actually her fourth alarm and she kind of panicked for a few seconds before remembering: no school.
I wake up, completely unaware of my surroundings. My mind is fuzzy, and it hurts when I open my eyes. But as I’m coming back to complete consciousness, the fuzziness is starting to be replaced with a dull thud. I am now fully conscious, even though I’d rather be unconscious again. The land around me is completely barren, and it’s deathly hot. As I look around to take in more of the barren land, I see a dark figure lying on the ground about 100 meters away. I try to yell and get it’s attention, but my throat hurts and is really dry. “Well maybe it’s just a rock or something,” I think to myself. Even though that is really improbable. And the ground is really hard and somewhat smooth, like glass, and has no rocks sticking out or anything. As I
“I’m sorry,” I said to Anna interrupting her. “That must have been terrifying to come back alone and scared and discarded in the woods like—I didn’t want to say trash—you didn’t matter.” Quickly, I tried to spin her revelation by saying, “Well, it could’ve been worse… At least you didn’t wake up in a government facility somewhere with a team of whackos wanting to stick tubes up your butt and a nutcase itching to put a bullet in your head.”
I slipped the note into Logan’s locker and walked off. He’s never going to find out that it’s me. He’s way too oblivious, I thought to myself as I walked into 7th hour.
Damn, I am counting down the days like never before. Since Aileana has come back into my life it’s harder than hell to be away from her. Duncan has been trying to keep me occupied with crazy antics on our down time. It has helped some, but the bond is so strong that Aileana is always in my head. My body is agony in wanting her. I can feel her thoughts, even all the way out here on the drilling platform. She still is fighting the pull her body and mind has with mine. I can feel her need for me. The Selkie magic of our joining is too strong for either of us to fight.
Soon after showing up, Matt’s sister takes him to a private room to talk to him. She reveals to Matt that she knows what he is doing. She tells him that he is going to break their parents hearts. His sister continues to berate him with statements about how what he is doing is wrong and that he should just marry a Chinese girl. Matt and his older sister have always had a difficult relationship, but they do care about each other. The next day Matt is determined to get this giant lie off his chest. He plans to tell his father during their early morning walk until his sister takes his place.
