Personal Narrative- Eventful Thanksgiving
The crisp, cool, and cinnamon air filled the morning of Thanksgiving in 1987. Although I was only two years and eleven months old, I remember the scratchy, fuzzy, purple- footed pajamas that I was wearing that morning. After I woke up, I "helped" my mom make her famous orange- cranberry relish, got dressed in my cream sweater dotted with cherries and my navy pleated skirt, topped off with my favorite cream fuzz- warn tights, and before I knew it we were out the door to my grandmother's house. After an early dinner with my grandparents, mom, and dad, my grandfather and dad left to catch the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day football game, leaving the rest of us to find entertainment of our own.

We looked at each other, stood up, and headed down the big hallway and around the corner to find my mom gasping at the fact that her water had broken. This was a surprise seeing as she was not due to give birth to my little sister for another two weeks. Once again, we were out the door and in the car. My grandmother did not put me in my car seat right and I remember struggling to free my arms the entire ride. My mom sat in the front seat yelling and muttering words under her breath. I was afraid because my mom was in such a strange state but I soon realized that she was yelling more at my grandmother than at her painful stomach. Every time we approached traffic, she gasped and turned behind her with her hand on my car seat, as to secure me from some ejecting force. It was not until years later that I was told all of the stories about what a terrible driver my grandmother was and how many cars she destroyed in various "incidents," as my grandfather calls them. We reached the hospital in plenty of time, but with one problem remaining, my grandfather and dad remained uninformed and unreachable as the resided among thousands of intoxicated football fans. They arrived in just enough time to see my mom before she had my sister, but not without strategic methods to get a hold of them. They first had to be paged over the intercom and when that seized to succeed, event staff members were sent to find them standing
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and people all over America are preparing for meals that will feed the entire family. Trying to pick out the right food and the best desserts can be hectic. Planning for the Thanksgiving dinner would be much easier if we had the perfect recipes everyone would enjoy.
The aroma of stuffing and hot, tender turkey was dancing in my nose. Football was being viewed in 55 inches of high definition. There was a visit from crazy Uncle Eddy. Yes, it was certainly a Thanksgiving to remember. Over the years, Thanksgiving has been very hit or miss. Some years it’s great, and other years, it’s not so great! Because the turkey was terrific, there was football on all day long, and Uncle Eddy played all his usual pranks, this Thanksgiving was the best holiday on record.
I have a good time on Thanksgiving. David and I went to see Anastasia and Andrew. Jason has told them that we were their grandparents. They did not comfort calling grandmama since I was not old enough to be their grandmama so I told them they can call me Sara. We got Anastasia, Andrew, and Elizabeth early Christmas gifts because Anastasia and Andrew going to spend Christmas with James and Amy. I am glad Amy get to see her children.

The big feast was amazing lots of my family members came over and we watch T.V played games and I and my cousin went outside. We saw a pile of leaves in the yard and jump in side of it and guess what I saw…
“Every Thanksgiving I travel to Saint Louis Missouri to stay with my grandmother. Our first day off school for Thanksgiving break, be begin packing for our trip. I had ordered a black Columbia jacket that was supposed to arrive that Wednesday, so I hoped it would come before we left. My brother in college comes to decatur and brings his dog Dino (pronounced deno) so we can travel together. That day all we had to do was wait on my brother Anthony to come back from his Richland classes. It took a couple more hours than we were expecting, and everyone got impatient. I felt slightly ticked but also glad my jacket came before we left.
Everyone has different plans on Thanksgiving, some families travel, others relax. It’s always nice to know how other people celebrate the holiday. Asking about 10 other students what they did on Thanksgiving and traditions, this is what was collected. I found out that not all families have the same kind of Thanksgiving, separating from culture to activities.
One of my families’ favorite thanksgiving deserts is homemade upside down apple pie. From the smell throughout the house to the pie with ice cream on top has become a family enjoyment we have all come to live and enjoy every thanksgiving. Often times, my sisters and I would enjoy conversation and memories while making the pies while the men in the family were sitting together talking about and watching the Dallas Cowboys game. The pies have always served a way of bring all of the girls together to share laughter and stories each year and enjoy a fantastic desert in the process.
It was finally friday! Both turkeys were done and they smelled delicious. Sydney and I were starting on the mashed potatoes and my older brother Chris decided it would be funny to hit me with a rolled up dish towel. That hurt so bad! It also left a welp. The cooking potatoes smell and the turkey smell made the house have a wonderful smelling aroma. It was finally time to eat, I was really happy because I had been cooking all day! I was looking at all of the smiling people at the table and smiled. I was really happy. My Thanksgiving Break was
When I was younger, I always imagined spending my Thanksgivings with my family, watching the parade, and gorging on enough food that would make me regret it later. My parents told me I had to complete a number of community service hours for my church in order to graduate and become a freshman in the ministry program I’m in. Even though I knew it was something I had to do, I did not want to pick up trash or make food for others, which sounds so selfish.
It’s Thanksgiving Day and I am really excited because this is the time where we all give thanks to each other and I get to have my Grandma’s delicious homemade pumpkin pie! Mmm, delicious!
When Nick was in seventh grade, his class at Saint Theresa took field trip to Catalina Island Marine Institute also known as CIMI. When I was in sixth grade, our class went to the most uninteresting science museum in the world, at least to me. There wasn’t anything appealing to me, and all I wanted at that time was go to CIMI, but I couldn’t. I was so jealous of Nick, and he just kept receiving gifts and gifts more than I could dream of. During Christmas, he would one up me every time. I would always speed over to Granny’s house very enthusiastically, as I wanted to show off my new present. This time, Santa brought a brand new blue bike. But as always, Nick got something way better. At grandma’s he ran in with his brand new slick iPad that
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, mostly because I love tradition and cooking for my family. This is not just any old regular meal it takes planning and lots of preparation. I carefully watch the sale ads and shop at several different stores in order to get exactly what I need. The very first step is getting an accurate head count of adults and children then pulling the menu together. If there are toddlers, then I make a dish just for them with less seasoning or I may need to accommodate diabetic or high blood pressure needs. Once I have all my information I plan my menu and tart to bargain shop with the turkey and ham at the top of the list.
Mom went over first, thanking God that my father had the forethought to create an emergency fund we could use to buy last minute tickets. Dad and I didn’t plan to go until Saturday, when the news of grandma passing pushing us to go and support mom. In truth, I felt almost indifferent to my grandma’s death; which might seem shallow, but I never knew got the opportunity to know her. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease before I was born, and when she first met me, she was in a stage with sudden mood swings. My mother tells me that she went from calmly talking to my Aunt to angrily grabbing my baby carrier from my mom and trying to walk out the front door while mom and Aunt Mary tried desperately to calm her down. I never knew my grandmother when she would be able to remember my name and not mistake
in 2014 I had done a lot of fundraising in the past year such as selling about 50 spam musubis a day plus cookies and brownies and even selling bentos and doughnuts ands finally trail mix bars during school. even outside of school I did fundraising from car washes to even mowing yards. eventually I made enough money with the help of all my family to get to go on the trip. I even made more money so I could relinquish it so I can buy gifts and such things like food. I'm not infallible at Japanese because it so happens that I cant read any of the signs that are in japan. when we landed in japan it was amazing because the airport was so huge and had paintings that look so amazing. when we got our luggage, it was pouring rain when we went outside to the bus. it was about an hour and a
From an early age and without even knowing it, I was able to relate stories from the bible I read in my later years. I have heard some say they grew up poor, and then they would describe their circumstance. One person said they did not receive a new bike at Christmas and the other said they only had turkey and sides at Thanksgiving because their family could not afford to purchase a ham. I would laugh and reply I remember being hungry on Thanksgiving hoping a relative would invite my family over for dinner. After reading the story of Jesus feeding the multitudes with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, I wished Jesus had found and blessed my family when we wondered where our next meal would come from. One example of something similar
