“I would be honored to invite Demetri Ford and his little sister, Tiana Ford, to the stage!” The art teacher stepped aside, letting the adolescent boy and preteen girl walk onto the stage. Students, teachers, and parents watched the pair, clapping and cheering at the familiar names. It was a full house in the gym in Thomas Hooker Elementary and Middle School. The Ford siblings looked at each other. Demetri grinned, showing off his braces as he set the microphone to his little sister’s height and then fixed his guitar, ready to begin.
