I look around the dark room, watching my allies. One sharpening one of his swords, another punching a bag of sand. And another boy in the window looking down over the city. I sit in the corner, just watching them. All I can think is, how did I become a fugitive of the entire country? I stand up and wander to the door.
“Hey,” the girl calls after me, looking away from her sand, “You know it isn’t safe out there”
I nod back to her, “I won’t go far, I promise.” I say with a reassuring smile. I walk out to the benches along the wall of the lobby. I close my eyes and wander back into memories of a simpler time.
My alarm plays the usual tune to wake me up as the green numbers on the screen display Monday, 7:30 am. I get up and look at the plain

I move down the hall on the grey carpet, towards the elevator. I push the silver button to go down, and walk inside the small box. I push the 2nd floor button, and listen to the dinging of the elevator as it crosses the 4 floors. The doors opens, and I step off, moving towards an apartment door marked 24. I lean on the wall by it and finish my toast.
3 minutes later, a girl with long red hair in a tight ponytail steps out. She wears her traditional black leggings and white T-shirt. She is a bit taller than I am, and she never lets me forget it. “Hey Jacklyn,” She says to annoy me. She knows I hate that.
“Jack,” I respond, “Never Jacklyn.” I give her a quick kiss and we move towards the elevator, “So, Autumn, did you see the new requirement?” I ask her.
“Yeah, the virus is terrible!” She exclaims, pushing the down button, “I hope they find a cure for those already affected,” She says in her usual optimism as we get inside the elevator again.
“Yeah, me to,” I agree. Last time there was something this big, the government couldn’t find a cure, but they sectioned off a part of the country, and sent them there until they

Autumn glances over to me, “Yeah actually,” she smiles, “around 5:00, you can come over to my place to pick me up.”
I get that feeling that only comes with the mix of happiness and nervousness. “Great,” I say trying to stay cool. This is only our sixth date, but we have been a couple for almost a year. She tends to get busy with school and work, so we don’t get much time out of school together. After a few more minutes, we get to school. The building is 3 stories tall, having 900 students to take care of. It always feels a little cramped, but I have gotten used to it. I walk through the giant glass doors, and walk through the tight and crowded halls. The smooth white tiles glistening the light from the lights over head. It gets a little deffing sometimes. The bright lights, and white floors. Sometimes I feel like the only thing keeping me from insanity here is the fact that the student’s clothes are different
I stop at the edge of the clearing and look at her for a moment. "I'll be back," I repeat, trusting that they'll just take my word for it. They nod and go back to eating and talking. I walk through the darkening forest, leaves crunching with barely a sound under my boots, ferns, bushes, and low branches brushing my clothes and face. I act as a silent shadow moving through the trees until I reach the tree-line.
Lexie nodded before she turned her head with sound of an opening door. “Mom. They need you. She’s seizing.” Brooklyn stated quickly causing the three doctors in the room to dash into the room. They quickly got the seizure under control and Sarah groggily came to soon
“Yeah, she’s in cryo for now but will be fine. For you, I have a special dose of this cellular restructuring serum that should do the trick.”
“You’ll be fine. She’s seems harmless. I doubt she’ll bite,” I say and then I pause, leaning back on my heels and throwing him a look. “Or maybe she will.”
“I know what you did. All the kids know now. I helped them all remember, before their parents were harmed.”
I glanced at my phone once again to make sure the clock on the wall in front of me was correct. 6:15. My mind wanders back to my conversation with Allison last night.
Marina blushed,” I am going to be in attendance this evening. And yourself? Will you be going tonight?”
“My friend’s really sick, and we have nowhere to go! Please, can you help us?” She sobbed.
Since my first day of high school, I have developed into a more responsible and mature person as well as open minded and understanding. Going into high school, I was pretty mature for my age compared to my peers but I was also pretty ignorant about my surroundings and certain situations I would find myself being in. I would even cave in and do things that I wasn't particularly fond of or interested in. Looking back at my past few years, I have gained a lot of experience interacting with people, learned things about myself, and have an insight of what the “real world” is like. I learned how to be my own leader, to be even more independent, and to stand up for myself & not be shut down or ignored. I have overcome different forms of adversity
"Someone has just stabbed someone in the woods beside my house." I answer shakily and tell her my address.
It reminded me of home. My mother was always baking. The scent was practically ingrained in her clothes, giving off a soft, sweet scent. The fragrance embraced you, took over your soul.
I wake with a tap against one of my boots. Dim streaks of light, grey and increasing, are filtering through a nearby door. How did I get back into the apartment? For a moment I stare at the ceiling trying to remember what happened last night, then everything comes rushing back. My headache and how Avery found me.
“Do you want to come stay at my beach house with me? I’m leaving tonight” She questioned.
“No need to panic, it’ll just be a talk. You’ll need to give a statement, since you were the last person she saw, they’re going to want to know quite a bit. Would you like a coffee?” I nodded.
“I’m just thinking about what would happen if we got infected what would we do,” He replied answering my question.
