Personal Narrative: Cultural Identity

Have you thought of someone’s culture as weird? Have you thought that you are completely different from them? If so, what prompts us to make that assumption. Culture is a very good reason for this. So, to what extent does one’s culture inform the way one views others and the world? Culture informs a person on the way others are and the world.

Culture is very important to many individuals in this world. It plays key parts in a vast amount of people’s lives. While some may follow everything to do with their culture, your culture doesn’t have to affect your life. You can still choose to have your own personal views, or to follow your accustomed culture. People will all view everything differently depending on who they are, what cultural background they have, and what scenario they’re in.

I think culture plays a big role in how we view others and the world around us. Your culture influences your beliefs. In the story Two ways to belong in America by Bharati Mukherjee, it shows the different beliefs between 2 sisters named Bharati and Mira. (Bharati) “ I am an American citizen and she is not. I am moved that thousands of long-term residents are finally taking the oath of citizenship.Mira is not.” (Mukerjee 70) Mira is more into her Indian culture and she looks at others and the world differently. She has a green card and she is not a citizen as Bharati is a citizen. Bharati has embraced the American culture. She is a citizen and has married an American man. Bharati married an Indian man. They both don’t look at people the same. Mira likes to wear her cultural clothes. Bharati said, “Self-invention,blue jeans and t-shirts.” (Mukherjee 70) That is textual evidence of why I think culture and beliefs plays a big role in how we view others and the world.

What makes my cultural identity different from others? No one has the exact same culture as somebody. What culture means to me is, the way a person is raised or things around them that makes them the way they are. It is a part of a person’s self-conception and self perception. My cultural identity is a unique one based on the influences of Religion, Education, and Sports.

What is culture? Culture is the idea of what is wrong or right, the concept of what is acceptable within our society. Culture serves us as a guide, taking us to the "right way" and helping us to make sense of things that surrounds us. There are many different cultures around the world. A lot of them are similar in specific ways and others are just completely different, this difference explains why we think that people from different backgrounds are "weird".

The front range of Colorado has a large diversity of cultural populations represented. Therefore, as a professional counselor it is my responsibility to educate myself on the cultures I am likely to be working with. Since there is such a diverse population there is no way I am going to know everything about everyone’s culture. Although, I do know the cultures of the majority populations that frequent the agency I am currently working. Since I am working with populations I would be aware of the societal issues they are facing and the oppression they have been and are up against. Therefore, this allows me to immerse myself into their culture, learning and seeing firsthand the oppression and prejudices they face in the community in which we

The way I see it humans are just biotic machines where people from the first SECOND we are born to expect us to be used to be in their likeness or their standard of code. Luckily, due to a creation of identity and personality, people often never reach that likeness and become different. Cultural identity impacts us for our interests can make a person grow and gain traits. My cultural identity is made up by many factors, Mx-Bones and my mom impacted my life and guided me to be an artist and an aspiring scientist of some sort that is not confirmative and very curious.

My culture is a part of me and that's why it makes me who i am. We are who we choose to be, the color of our skin and our language doesn't matter. People can assume a lot of things just by looking at us, just by our physical appearance. But is our culture that identify us, we can't just get rid of it, our culture is always going to stay with us no matter what.

I was born in the summer of 1964, to lower middle class parents, my mother was divorced with having left three young sons behind with her first husband. My father owned a very popular gas station and repair shop, by birth being the result of a torrid love affair, this topic remained in the gossip pool well into my twenties. I was kept in the dark until Jr. high school, my mother was forced to tell me part of her truth, after the principal sent a note home. My mother suffered from depression and substance abuse as a coping mechanism to sooth her pain. At the age of two my mother gave birth to my sister, although, my mother loved us, I believe her pain tortured her relentlessly. Soon my father choose alcohol to numb his

Cultural identity is what makes you who you are. Cultural identity can range from a variety of different things. But in today's culture people do not take the time to learn one another's back ground, they judge others based upon appearance. I am mainly looked at as a spoiled, stuck up white girl who went to catholic school, when none of that is true. I have a lot of things that make me who I am, from my family's traditions, to how old I am, the food I enjoy, the music I listen to, and the sport I play.

What I value about my culture is my family and how important they are. I also value how we depend on one another to get through the day.

Most people don't know their own culture.So im here to tell you about mine so you can figure out yours. Figuring out your cultural identity hard what make up your culture is everyday things that you do as in your favorite tv show,food,music even things your family does like going to church or sweet 16. But when it comes down to it you don't decide what your culture is passed down from family and friends.Cultural identity defines you it comes from friends and family.

In sixth grade, one of my Caucasian friends quipped, “I’m more Chinese than you are!” after discovering that, despite my outward appearance, I couldn’t speak a word of Chinese. She had just started learning Mandarin at our middle school. While I brushed it off and rebuked that of course she couldn’t be more Chinese than I am, I couldn’t help but feel that she had a point: I didn’t feel all that connected to my ethnic identity.

Culture can be defined in many ways for instance my culture identity is made up of little portions of my daily life and what inspires me to be who i am today. As growing up I had a very close view of culture identity. I was born in Ukraine Konstantinovka .At age 4 I moved to America.The first apartments we moved in was filled with people from different cultures and identities from Mexican ,Somalia ,American, Turkish, Thailand and many others. I would often not understand their behavior or beliefs and would often question them.But as time passed i made new friends and meet new cultures.

“Good times in your culture makes good memories”. Good memories can connect to your culture even if it’s good or bad. Your culture can have many different things about it . There’s different kinds of cultures. Some people are dedicated to their culture. People do things in their culture many different ways and some people do things the same way if they have the same culture. My cultural identity is interesting because of all the memories, food, and a specific t.v show.
