I enjoy doing cross country in the fall of the my school year and track in the spring of my school year. I love running cross country after school because it’s a time I find relaxing and nice to breathe in the fresh air after running 3 miles. It’s also enjoyable to talk and bond with my friend on our 3 mile runs together. In the spring, I love hurdling because I enjoy the feeling of jumping over one obstacle after another. My favorite nonacademic activities are playing tennis and American Sign Language. During my free time, I like to play tennis with my friends, especially during the summer and at Weymouth Club. I also enjoy watching ASL videos on YouTube in my free time and learning how to sign new songs. It’s an awesome hobby I like to do
We greeted each other with kind respect. We met on the trail when his wagon broke. I offer to help Curtis Mick Colloni with his wagon. We exchange each other name and we left. I knew he was a skilled doctor and he he would I left the place and I ask Curtis if he would like travel together. As I was walking, I saw Hunter. I ran up to him and greeted him. I met Hunter Norm Cline during the trail when it block by a log. There was a lot of people and together, Hunter organized the group to pull the log. I ask if he would like to join me on the way to Oregon. He said he had 2 other family going on the trail and ask if I would join. He also mentioned that he was the leader of the group. I merge with the group and together we form a wagon
A time when I accomplished something by continuing to try even when success did not appear imminent was when I thought I was not going to get my varsity letter in Northview Cross country after NLL's even though I did not exactly break 18 minutes and 30 seconds for a 5K. In the NLL race I knew from the start I had to stay relaxed, race people, and not go out to fast so I am not dead after the first mile. So I went out towards to top pack and stayed tough with the other runners as long as I could. When I approached the final 400 meters I did an all out sprint allowing me to pass 3 runners giving me a time of 18 minutes and 35 minutes. I felt proud of this accomplishment and even happier when my coach said "I think you are going to get your
The horse ride changed mike's opinion of his horse and himself because at first the was some trouble with getting him on the horse, but once he got on he started to enjoy himself and realize that just because he has a disability he doesn't have to limit himself.according to paragraph 1 it states how he felt or his opinion of getting on the horse. "No, stop it, I don't want to!" I yelled. Some of the horses in front of the barn looked at me, and all of the people stared, but I didn't care. Not being a sweet little angel like the disabled kids they show on TV is what gives my life meaning. I raised the volume of my voice enough to send birds flapping out of the shade trees. "You have no right! Isn't this supposed to be a free country?".
As we continued along the trail, we were stopped by a very steep hill. Hunter announced that we should dump some stuff from our wagon in order to get on top of the hill. I dump my a tired that I bought recently and a barrel with nothing in it. The trip up the hill was a pain. It took so long to get up the hill I almost fell asleep. My leg was sore and I thinking about giving up. Finally we made it to the top of the hill and we realized that we had to go down the hill. We decided to use our own ropes and slowly descend our wagon one by one. When we descend Curtis’s wagon, Curtis almost fell. He was able to caught himself before he fell down the hill. Well all went down the hill and as we were going down the hill, we saw a divine blue spring
On my way to one of the greatest concerts, thoughts were swirling around my head. How good will this really be? Will I make it out alive tonight? Was it worth the wait? The thought that the next highly anticipated song that plays may cause a riot so large it ends my life. I soon found out after I entered the House of Blues, or rather, as I prepared to enter The Rodeo.
Cross country is a sport for the dreamers. This fact becomes abundantly clear once setting foot out on the course. The atmosphere created by this determination and drive is palpable. A defining difference that separates cross country from other team sports is the lack of ill will towards other teams, rivalries are present but they provide for a greater sense of competition between schools. When looking up sportsmanship in the dictionary it says “refer to cross country”. What creates such a friendly environment that many other sports seem to lack? It all goes back to the shared goal, to finish.
Last year I started a new sport, cross country. I only did it because my lacrosse coach said that it might help me get better for lacrosse. So I went to the first late summer practice last year to see what this was like, so then we did warm-ups and a lap around the track. Then it was the first time I met coach Chase, My first impression of him was going to be very strict, But soon realized that this was false because of one of the first things he said. He said “I know there are a lot of nerves here right now, but cross country isn’t about winning every race, that comes later” then continued with “Cross country is about showing what you can do to yourself.” This struck me very hard because I was not that fast and was near the back. Through that fall the team did very well, I also made some progress myself. After the season was over I made a decision.
"Hmm, I think I'll wake up tomorrow and run 10 miles!", said no non Cross Country runner ever. This is a prime example of why a lot of people don't do it. It is a very rigorous sport that requires a very special type of person to participate in. What kind of people does Cross Country attract? If you asked me, I would say that Cross Country is the toughest, geekiest sport there is.
It was October 2016 of my junior year, right in the heart of the Cross Country season. Cross Country was fun and team was doing great, but I was looking forward to the upcoming winter track season. High jump is where it is at and that is where I wanted to be and then it happened… I went down and my ankle was caught underneath me and twisted. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but I was hurt. I was on the ground, in pain as other racers passed me. I was able to get to the finish it wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t fast, but I did it.
It all started on one hot summer day riding in the Jeep with the whole family, windows were down and laughter was floating freely through the air. I can still remember it like it was yesterday; the temperature was about 87 degrees and the humidity wasn’t bad at all. As we were driving down the road, the top down on the Jeep and the radio playing as loud as it could go, my favorite song came on the radio, “Ride the Wind” by Poison. It is so amazing and it always helps when that right songs comes on the radio which sets the mood for the rest of the day. We even had our 6 year old dog with us. He’s always content with his head sticking out the back glass and his ears flopping in the warm breeze.
During the fall of senior year, I joined the cross country team to help prepare and condition me for the track season, in the spring. Skeptical at first, I knew that I didn't have any endurance since I only sprint over hurdles during the track season, but little did I know that the weeks were passing and the end of the cross country season arrived. Though I was one of the inexperienced long distance runners, I knew that I ran the fastest I could because when I crossed the finish line I had an overwhelming nauseous feeling. As someone who runs a short distance, I was proud of myself for making it to the end of the season without quitting, especially since cross country is running for a long distance, which other sports make their athletes do
Cross country and robotics are by far my favorite activities, over the course of my high school they have introduced me to so many new, fascinating people and amazing experiences. When I first joined cross country as a freshman, I had no idea that I was getting myself into four seasons worth of friendship and tradition. At first I did not enjoy cross country because I also did not enjoy running, but now running through Ukiah’s scenic trails, be it Low Gap or Lake Mendocino or Mill Creek, I have a newfound appreciation for nature and my hometown. Additionally, cross country and my amazing team especially have helped me through challenging moments in my life such as a nasty car accident in 2015 that kept me from completing the last few races
When I got fired from my job over the summer I realized there wasn't a lot to do. I was bored. This led to me exploring the woods around my house.I found lots of things, old oil cans, empty budweisers, and coyote traps, but the biggest thing I found was a trailer.
Normally, the drive home would have taken two hours. We were seven hours in. The snow was coming down at three inches per hour– I was practically blind.
Coming up as a child I never moved from place to place. Other children that I went to elementary with moved from all around the globe. I use to feel so jealous, some of my friends back then could speak all different languages or show post cards from where they may have been. I never knew how this would have an influence on me until now.
