It was a cool summer morning when my dad, Alfonso, and I were driving out to Marion, ND listening to my favorite Aerosmith CD. It was a quaint little town overshadowed by the looming grain elevator and bins in the center of town. My dad is a sub-contractor which means companies contract him to do jobs for their clients. For this job we would be atop a one hundred and twenty foot tower with no harnesses. When I found that out i was definitely a little worried.I was only fourteen and didn’t have too much experience high heights. However, I was with my father so I knew nothing would go wrong. Once on the job site, we had to get to the very top. The safest way up is by taking a small service elevator. Since we both needed to be up there my dad
In the past people were filled with prejudice and racism, but there was still good people. The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee was written in 1960, but set during the 1930’s. During this time the United States was going through a hardship known as “The Great Depression”. Another terrible act during this time was the mistreatment and segregation of African Americans. These things brought about prejudice people who did not want kind people to be free. Among the hate and distrust in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus, Mr. Raymond, and Calpurnia are the least prejudice.
I remember that day as if it were yesterday, the day I had to testify against my real father. There I was, so young and scared, all eyes were on me making me even more nervous than I already was. I just wanted to back down and run away, but I knew that was not the right thing to do. I had to be strong and face my fears because that is the only way things will get better. I made sure to keep in the back of my mind that this would be the biggest thing I would ever have to do. If I did, everything else would be like a little bump in the road, nothing I can't handle. This event was one that started my transition from childhood to adulthood.
We were waiting in line, I was so scared. Dad said, “Go on the ride it will be fun.” Finally it was our turn when we got on the ride we started going up.¨Are you ready?¨”Dad said. I was not feeling great about doing this. When we hit the top we went straight down everyone was screaming. I was so scared but relieved I did it. The rest of the ride
I had climbed on the roof of the garage, it wasn't very high off the ground, but high enough that I was level with a few power lines. I watched my friend jump off, flipping in the air and landing on the trampoline. Now it was my turn. If only I knew how badly I was about to mess up.
Throughout the conversation, Susan did not inform me that the home was still in First Look and not open to investors at this time. Susan did not highlight any features of the home, nor did she talk about the neighborhood or the surrounding area. When asked, Susan paused to reference the property file and stated, "In looking at the pictures it appears that it needs interior paint, carpet, appliances, and a few windows, which the previous seller must have taken." She stated, "I don't know why they have to remove things from the homes." I asked, "Do you have offers?" She paused to check the property file and answered, "No offers." I asked, "Is the property behind the home farmland?" She paused to reference the property file and replied, "It appears
On the second day we went hiking up mountains, through narrow caves, and under waterfalls. My dad usually goes ahead of us while my mom, brother and I are stepping back and taking pictures of everything around us. We walked along the path for about 20-30 more minutes when I saw a narrow path climbing at about 50 degrees uphill. We eventually got to the top where it was a complete drop off on one side, nothing but cars and rocks. I shouted, “Mom, you know I have an EXTREME fear of heights!”
On our way up the mountain, we saw lots of Toucans and monkeys. It was a very bumpy ride. Sometimes the mountain got so steep that I thought we were going to fall backwards. Once we reached the top we got out. The workers helped us put on the harnesses. The woman who worked there jumped on the zip line and went down first so she could be the catcher at the bottom. None of us wanted to go, it looks way to scary. So my dad made Gage go first, he was assisted by another worker as he was too little to go alone. Once we all new that Gage made it safely we did rock paper scissors to see who went next. Ian went and then I went and then my dad went. There were 4 lines, at first we were only going 60 miles per hour, by the time we were on the last one we got up to speeds of 90 miles per hour, the length of the lines was 3 miles. The wind on my face and body actually hurt and it was hard to breath at
After we finished climbing, my cousin Morgan, who is pretty short, but very athletic, want to repel from the top. She asked if I would like to do it too. I said “Heck yeah!” So when we got up to the top, I watched how she hooked up and used her brake hand to control the speed of descent. I got hooked up after her and my aunt, who is Search and Rescue, gave me the lowdown. When I backed off the edge, I looked down. My dad was smiling and taking pictures, while my mom was freaking out. I wasn’t too worried because I kind of knew what I was doing.
I had only two groups ahead of me and then it was my turn to take the lift. As the others ahead got on, I examined the way they mounted the seat. As each seat took off, they would walk up behind it as another seat, without stopping, would scoop them up from behind. Now it was my turn. When the group ahead of me got carried away, I moved up quickly so the seat coming from behind me wouldn’t knock me down. As I watched the seat draw near I noticed there were no seatbelts! How stupid of me. Of course there wouldn’t be seatbelts. Once you finally get to the top, you have to get off quickly otherwise you’ll miss your chance and the lift will take you back down. It was too late now, the seat was right behind me. As it grabbed me from behind, I could feel my board and legs begin to drag across the floor. When I lost contact with the earth, I clung to the side railing as tightly as I could. Every second that passed took me higher and higher. The cable suspending my seat bounced up and down as more passengers were added to the weight of the lift. I looked down and realized I was already about twenty feet in the air. The gravity pulling down on the snowboard attached to my foot felt as if a demon, whose name was Acrophobia, was dragging me down to the depths of
I cannot believe it took one person to destroy me, one person to discard all of my trust for anyone. One person to make me forget who my real friends were. One person to banish me to the deepest parts of my mind. One person to make me think that I’m not worthy of anything. One person to be so ignorant as to make me think it was all my fault. That one person, under that pretty little face is called Ashley Melgar. From here on out we’ll call her “Little A.” Little A was a curious tale of my not so great past. Boyfriend and all, I still continued to fall for her lies and manipulation. My mind was clouded and there was no way to clear my vision. In my head she was a damaged soul with a fucked up boyfriend; in reality she was a fucked up soul with
I came to Ridge Family Center for Learning in second grade. On top of being “the new kid” in school, I didn’t know anyone besides my neighbor. She had been going to this school since kindergarten and I ate lunch with her and her friends everyday. One day, as I ate my usual PB & J, she said “Are you excited for the musical?” Apparently it happens every year, yet I was not aware of this. Naturally, being a little kid, I was excited and screamed “Really? I love watching people perform!” My parents loved musicals and took me to see my fair share of them. She gave me a strange look and laughed. “You don’t get to watch. We’re performing on the stage, silly!” My jaw dropped. All I could think about was how scared I was. I was about to sing on stage in front of 200 parents.
It was mid-afternoon, and we had already been on a few rides, but mostly waited in super long lines. We were headed to the food court, when my friend Lauren Kurzawa pointed out X-Flight. This was completely new territory for me, because it went upside-down, and I had never done that before. Not wanting to be a chicken, I went on it. I was so nervous, I was probably shaking. We got on towards the front, and the ride started. At first, it was super scary, but then I let go, and enjoyed the freedom of the ride. It was one of the funnest things I have ever done in my entire life! It felt amazing to just be flying through the air, and feel weightless. I can’t wait to go back again sometime, and I’m glad I decided to try
My parents would describe infant me as adventurous, happy, full of energy. When I was younger I had a habit of crawling out of the crib and opening doors and my have tried to invite the mail man in a few times. When I was just learning to walk I would always open the front door when the mailman came or when my grandma thought I had ran away because I had opened multiple doors in the house and later found me playing in the backyard and later would by door knob locks to keep me from opening the doors, I believe I may have been 3 or 4 years old at the time. My favorite stuffed animal was this light brown monkey with a darker face, brown marble eyes that my mom had gotten me when she took me to the Toledo zoo when I was 4 years old I used to take
Why I say in disbelief. I finished my milk. It was August . I was only A ten year girl and willing to face my biggest fear. Honk! Honk! Come on lets hurry of We are going to be late yelled , my mom. I am rushing. I hopped into the red car. However, I maintained a little apprehensive of what was bound to happen . We are here! stated my dad. My sister Sarah started teasing me. Sarah has been never afraid of anything. It was a dark and foggy site. The objective sustains to reach the top of the tower. Additionally ,You can accomplish this don't be afraid yelled my family. I must climb the first section of the tower. I visualized I could not do it anymore. I felt my heart rapidly beating. I kept moving even though I felt frightened. I didn't plan
Throughout life people are faced with many complications through their day to day routine. One trouble that I face heights. I did not know this was an issue until I went to an amusement park with a group of friends. It was a sunny day out, and the park was so crowded it was hard to find my way through the crowd. After we finally pushed our way through swarm of people, we made it to a roller coaster. This was the first time I had ever rode one.
