I would change my community so that we waste less food. Currently, many food sellers have strict rules in place which result in perfectly edible food being thrown out. I have frequently seen cafeteria workers at my school take away hot meals from students with insufficient funds, resulting in hungry students and fuller landfills. On a visit to Walmart recently, I watched customer service workers refund a consumer for returned, unopened food, and then promptly mark the goods as waste. After closing, restaurants will dispose of their unsold daily goods in garbage. I believe our community needs to stop feeding maggots and landfills and start feeding the
There are many things I want to get out of the next four years, friends that will last a lifetime, a great education, and memories that will never fade. Being a Community Assistant will put me on the right path to succeed those goals. It would be a great opportunity to be able to get involved into the community and meet fellow residents. One major factor in why I want to work at Red Rock Ridge is from what I have observed it has a positive work environment.
I am a PhD student at the Dalla Lana School for Public Health at the University of Toronto. I work as a research coordinator under the supervision of your former colleague Dr. Julia Woodhall-Melnik. Dr. Woodhall-Melnik has recommended the Communications and Dissemination Research Assistant position on "The Community Ideas Factory Project" to me as she knows I am interested in continuing my work in this area. I have two years of experience in knowledge creation and dissemination from institutions such as St. Michael’s Hospital, and I can use the skills I have built to help you on this project.
High school. The place where your supposed to find yourself, determine who you are and who you want to be. Some people take this opportunity for good and some take it for granted. Those who abuse this opportunity end up broken and lost and they never find their true self’s till they have lost everything they ever thought they had.
My strongest advocacy point these day is to create Community Powerhouse Collaborations made up of Parents, Educators and Business for the sole purpose of developing what I call, the Kindergarten CEO. Nurturing, supporting and developing each kids unique skills and abilities to be eventually monitized in some form in a high demand job in the global work place. It's the best way to ease the pressure off the Public Workforce Sysrem and ensure that young people get the "first chance" system opportunity right. We're looking to plan a strategy in Bergen County to address this. If you're interested in supporting our initiaitve, please let me
It is a somewhat unspoken agreement that people all have, and breaking this agreement is frowned upon. The bathroom is a very unsocial place. You go do your business and then leave, it is very simple. The social norm that I broke was talking to someone in the stall next to me, and continuing to have a conversation even when it was clear they did not want to have one.
I have always taken great pride in my ability to bring myself out of poverty and to become a well-rounded person. I have suffered through many obstacles along the way, and with great determination, I have been able to overcome them. I know that I have been fortunate and I never take that for granted. Friends and family are a great support system and I am blessed to have the best of both. I work very hard to instill strong beliefs into my children and their friends. It is very important to me that I give back to the community. Understanding social culture and economic provides and even greater sense of wanting to help those that need it. I volunteer through my work with Habitat for Humanity and the Houston Food Bank. My daughter also volunteers
For my Make a Difference Project, I decided to donate 2 large boxes of unused toys to Goodwill. I also wanted to donate $50 to Riley Hospital. I exceeded my goal as I donated two boxes of gently used toys and a full desk set to Goodwill. I also met my goal to donate $50 to Riley Hospital. I earned the $50 by lawn mowing. Something I could have done differently was to maybe focus on one organization rather than two. This would have helped because I could have helped that one organization more. This inspires me to do more service projects because I would like to help the community. I really enjoyed doing my Make a Difference
I have been in the Marine Corps for roughly three and a half years and throughout that time I have done many things. Most of the things that I have done were with Combat Logistics Battalion 26. For three years, I worked with that unit through work ups and a deployment and I have seen and done many unique things. However, nothing I did with CLB 26 felt fulfilling, but that all changed when I changed units to CLB 8.
I was born in Australia on January 12, 1999, however I have lived on the Hawaiian Islands since I was five and for most of my life. I have traveled back to Australia several times to visit family and even though I’m an Australian i do consider myself semi-Hawaiian in a sense. To give back to the islands I would love to help the next generation to have a childhood that is filled to the brim with Hawaiian Nature. One idea to give them this experience would be to go into Waipio Valley with the children from different schools in the Big island and explore the valley with them. Some activities while we are in the valley would be hiking, examining native plants, horse riding, swimming in rivers and the ocean, and then
It was the beginning of my freshman year and I did not know how to help prepare for my future. When I found out about this assignment we had to do for our Learning Community class I know I needed to start attending events on campus to just get this paper over with. I heard about the Business Tri-Rush and I thought it would be a good event to go to and write about. The talk about Tri-Rush was insane. I heard people talking about it from almost everywhere in Copeland. There were always people in Copeland sitting behind tables advertising the event and there was even a geo-filter on snap chat of this. My best friend is also in a Business Fraternity here and only has good things to talk about.
On another task to look at the community, we had to broaden our world. Instead of going around and interviewing professors, we have to interview people in and around the Durant area. We got a list and had to pick from that list. I was hoping that someone from the Church would be on the list. Looking over it, no name sounded familiar. However, one person in our group knew someone on the list, which gave us a leg to stand on. Our chosen person was located in Calera, and went by the name Samuel Sanchez.
Community has a very strong positive connotation attached to it. A community bonds together when one falls. The true reliance an individual has with their own community runs deeper than any explanation can explain. It is because so many people often forget this connection, that I have taken the most drastic measures to immerse myself with my whole faction. The easiest yet most beneficial involvement that I have had with my community is through tutoring. Teaching a child, or even an adult, makes each individual in the population a stronger contributor to society. As one who struggles with family finances, I cannot put a price on knowledge. The payment of my tutoring is in the brightening faces of those individuals that see the connection.
My diverse background allows me to see both sides of the spectrum. One day I live in the suburbs of the city that I live in. I see old white males in drive around in their corvettes and think about what it would be like to have one of my own. Another day I see poverty. I see urban areas. I see what it’s like to not have anything. I see the quality of life that the people in the suburbs would not have the experience of living in.
I joined the Make a Difference club on September 2016,where I completed my community service. I completed a total of 37.5 hours in the club.
How many different “hats” do we each wear on a daily bases. From our careers, to our family and friends we all have different identities that we claim and live out day to day. These identities help us define who we are. “When we identify ourselves, we draw on a host of different characteristics associated with various social groups to which we belong” (King 2012, pg. 429). My ornament is explaining the social identity through a snow-women and her many hats.
