“WATCH OUT,” all of the kids on the bus had screamed. After I had realized what had happened I was in the front of the bus with plenty of bruises. It was just another normal day right after the school day had just gotten over. We had all gotten on the bus to go home. We had left the school ground to go to St. Mary's to drop off the kids. Then, we had went to our first stop out of town. After he got off, we had began to speed up hwy. Speed everyone had started to panic. Before the bus driver knew it, we had hit a little brown nissan pick-up on the side of hwy 13 south of town when i realized that i was in the front of the bus on the floor. I was the first one out of the bus after a little while another bus come to pick up kids that wanted to
Until I was in eighth grade, I believed I was a republican. Pursuing the ideas thrown in my direction like softballs in a fast pitch game, what it meant to be a republican seemed pretty great. The upper class thriving, spending less and saving more, living for oneself, all making an America that soared, my father could tell me it all, and that was all that I needed to hear. Like a glimmering, sunshiney day, FOX news could play, and I would pretend that everything sounded great. That is, at least, with closed eyes and shuttered ears, only hearing what my dad wanted me to hear. But at this point in my life, I had never had much an opinion of my own. My news sources being seventeen magazine and the supercutesupertrendy quizzes that it consisted
The second tool that has proven beneficial is the President’s Challenge. In the months prior to attending CPOA, I was sedentary, lacked motivation and required a jumpstart. The President’s Challenge did just that for me, catapulting and pushing me towards achieving my health and fitness goals. By the end of week two, I achieved the 12,000 point target. This could not have been accomplished without the support of my team or the fitness program that the academy faculty developed. The CPOA instructors led the class through comprehensive and vigorous routines, opening our minds to new methods for obtaining our goals. Routines included: swimming, spin, circuit training, TRX, interval runs and Fit Deck. As a result, it has ignited a new found passion
As I pulled up to my friends house to drive her to school, it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, weather was nice and while we were sad this day due to the loss of a dear friend, we were both looking forward to things getting back on track with school. A few days prior, our friend, who always wanted to ride a motorcycle, took a ride with a boy she met. This would be her first and last ride. The motorcycle rear ended a stopped car, she was ejected and dragged under an oncoming vehicle to her death. As I picked up my friend for school, March 9, 1989 our dear friend would be laid to rest. We planned to attend her funeral that afternoon and a special event in her honor at our school. While making a left turn into our school parking lot, the plan for the day changed, as a blue sedan going full speed, slammed into the passenger side of my car. The reality of the situation; I turned left in front of an oncoming vehicle.
With everything going on in the news and the new administration, I have been feeling the urge to do something. I happened to come across an online site where it talked about taking action. So, I decided to organize a Stockton Huddle, which is a 90-minute gathering for people of all walks of life to sit and calmly discuss their concerns about the new administration and its policies. Huddles are the second of 10-planned actions in the First 100 days of this presidency, which launched at the Women’s March in Washington D.C.
CRASH, I heard a ringing in my ears, my vision was a little blurry, and there was powdery smoke in the car. There was a stench that stung your eyes and nose. I looked out the windshield and noticed that no one had gotten out of the car. I panicked, I thought what if they are hurt, and what if there was a baby in the car. I was scared…terrified. I ran out of the car by that time there was two teenage girls not much older than I, out walking around. I asked if they were okay, they both said “yes, we are fine.” I noticed that the driver was still not out. I ran up to the door of the driver side yanked it open. I scared the poor elderly woman that was in there. I asked if she was okay she also said also said yes. After I made sure that everyone was okay I went over to the driver side of the Jeep and fell to my knees crying in the middle of the road.
All the women in my family, myself included, love the Rob Reiner film American President (the one where Michael Douglas is the president and falls for Annette Benning) to the point where my mother and two aunts can quote the whole thing without missing a beat. While I’m not quite on their level yet, one quote that I can always jump in on is: “We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them.” I want to be one of those people—a relentless problem solver with new, creative and innovative ideas to make the world around me a more connected place. And that’s why I’d flourish at Eugene Lang, as well as contribute to the driven and dynamic student body of artists and innovators that attend the school. I hope to become
I came home that day and as I walked through the door my mom said that I needed to get an after school job so I could help out with extra expenses so I walked down the street fighting the wind to braum’s. At braum's I filled out an application and the manager loudly said I could start working there the next day.I smiled and continued walking as I walked out the sliding doors I felt eyes staring me up and down. I kept walking until I made it all the home past my mother and into my bedroom.I was very exhausted from my long day so I slowly kicked of my shoes and took off my coat and fell right into a deep sleep. I woke up early the next morning around 5 to take a hot shower and get ready for work. Weeks have passed and I was very happy working at
“Do you like your job mom?” My son Matthew asks me casually looking up at me from his wooden desk chair. I’m working on cooking our family dinner and he’s currently working on a 10th grade essay, where he describes what he wants to become when he grows up. I always have thought that term “growing up” was funny, because through everything I certainly never have. I smiled down at him and answered “Yes, Matthew, I love it very much.” “Can I interview you about it please, it’s part of the assignment?” he replied. I nod and make my way over to the matching desk chair and sit down. “Just answer my questions about your job” He said. “Wait Matt, don’t you have to write this down?” “UGH mom this isn’t 2016, no one writes anymore. Gosh. My IPhone 17
If you go down, you will find a way to get back up and thank whoever brought you down because he just made you that much stronger.
On a chilly Halloween evening October 31, 2015. Jack and Alex started to get ready to go Trick or Treating. Their friend Jake was having a Halloween party. Jack asked his mom if she could go with to get the candy and she agreed. So Jack and Alex started to go stopping at people's houses to get candy.
In 2011, DeKalb, Illinois, First I was coming back from school when I was 6 years old, my bus dropped me of at my father’s house. Like always, he is in his room sleeping like a baby and sounded like a trumpet using a lawn mower. My father left a note on the table telling me where is the food he made for me, it was beans with tortias. My Mom works at a factory so I see her when I go to bed. One day my dad was mad at me for eating the
This is a digital art piece of Kavacy that I got from my tumblr. It’s a digital painting of Kaniki from the anime Tokyo Ghoul. I like this piece I particular because the different aspects of the show you can find just for noticing the small details. The hair was the first thing I noticed. The artist used thick slightly faded lines to define the over all shape of the hair. Then as he went along he began using thick solid strokes to fill in the hair in the back and thin solid strokes to show the individual strands of hair in the front. He did this to show that these strands held more dominance. I enjoy how the artist gave the whole picture that cold gritty and solemn feel. It makes the piece very alluring with the center being the primary focus
In high school and college, everyone is supposed to have goals. For those goals, you are supposed to have certain standards. Some standards are different from others. My goals are to the 9th grade, high school in general, and college. Avid, in general, has goals that they'd like us to follow.
February twenty-third 2010 was just a regular ordinary day. I was on my way to class on this cold February afternoon, when my phone rung. It was my cousin on the other end telling me to call my mom. I could not figure out what was wrong, so I quickly said okay and I hung up and called my mom. When my mom answered the phone I told her the message but I said I do not know what is wrong. My mom was at work and could not call right away, so I took the effort to call my cousin back to see what was going on. She told me that our uncle was in the hospital and that it did not look good. Starting to tear up I pull over in a fast food restaurant parking lot to listen to more to what my cousin had to say. She then tells me to tell my mom to get to
It was the first Sunday of December morning when my father asked me to take some boxes to the basement, I had never been down there, as a kid I always thought it was scary, but know as a 19-year-old guy, how could I say no. I went downstairs with a couple of boxes, but could not find any place to put them. The area was a mess, so I decided that I would organize every box that was there. While I was organizing, I notice this one box hidden in the back, so, I decided to open it. Inside the box, there was a newspaper and a couple of burnt pictures. Therefore, I decided to read the article, I could not understand much, it was an 18 years old newspaper, but it talked about a burning house with two twin babies, It said that one had been saved with no harm while the other one was rescued later on with severe burn mark. It was a miracle that other baby had survived, they called him miracle Carlos, and his brother Richard. I stood there for a second before my brain processed
