Northwestern has already played a massive role in my development as a learner. Starting in fifth grade I took an Astronomy summer class with the Center for Talent Development program. I was hooked! I continued to take CTD courses throughout middle school. Having a group of likeminded classmates fostered a passion for science that catapulted me into AP courses in High School. Northwestern attracts a student community that I want to be a part of.
In my sophomore year began working at the Brickner Microbiology lab I met a new group of dedicated peers. At first I shadowed the lab: watching “journal club” collaborative paper review sessions, and learning the ins and outs of dozens of pieces of lab equipment. In this time I met several mentors that
My parents are very different from each other. We all have different views on thing and school. I myself have only left the state once that was when I was like 2 months old my mom took me to Alabama to see my aunt and uncle and cousin. I love to fish and Longboard. I don't play too many video games. Also I absolutely can't wait unit I don't have to go to school any more. I will end up going to college one way or another because I would like a degree in engineering or something in that nature. I was almost put up for adoption when I went to Alabama. I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters. I only know one of my sisters. My mom lost custody of when I was little. I never met her. She is only like 2 years younger than me. I also play baseball. I have never went hunting or for that matter I have never shot a gun. I own 2 bows 1 for target practice and the other one is for hunting when i get older.
I am forty four years old with three children and a wonderful husband. I grew up in Oklahoma and later moved to Kansas, and then Arizona where I finished my degree is Political Science at Arizona State University. My career goals were to attend law school after undergrad, so that I could be an advocate for children that were suffering serious injustices back then, and sadly they still seem to be suffering those injustices today.
When I made the decision to go to school to obtain my LPN, I was twenty-four years old. I was married with a 3 year old child and worked full time as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Hospice. My husband worked in the union but due to plants closing down in our area, he was laid off, and I was the main financial support for my family. I knew things were not going to be easy but I was determined to be successful, not only for me but for my family. I began the process of enrolling in November 2009 and was all set to begin school in April of 2010. I was beyond excited for this journey to begin. I had a wonderful support system, not only at home but with my co-workers as well and I knew nothing was standing in my way. Fast forward to December
Nowadays, technology is an important tool used in so many different aspects of our life to help things like finance, navigation, and even food. With all of the advancements and ideas that the tech industry is making, technology is now becoming more and more involved in the health and wellness aspects of our lives. Some of the new technology that has been created are specific video games that have new workout routines, stretches, timers and diet suggestions for the Wii or X-Box Kinect. There are also new smartphone and smart watch apps with similar features
All my life, my main goal was (and still is) to move out of Wisconsin, say goodbye to the negative fifty degree winters, and explore the world. Looking for a career that incorporates my love for traveling and my intrest of Business has always sounded like a dream.Going to new, exotic places has always been a significant part in my life. After all, my first trip was when I was eight months old to Turks and Caicos. Throughout time, our family traveled to most of the Caribbean, I was infatuated with everything about these countries. At the age of ten, I started taking online Spanish courses. In the past year, I started to learn my third language, Italian. Learning a language takes a strong memory, from memorizing the spelling to all the forms the word has to be in.
“Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz!” As I roll over from my fetus-type sleeping position, I notice my 6 o'clock alarm buzzing away beside me and that only more thirty minutes remains to aquire the last bit of my beauty sleep before the daily struggle begins. “Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz!” Half an hour later, I roll over knowing that I must wake up now, so that I can perform my morning rituals. I reach over to my shiny, black bookcase that I use as my nightstand and touch the dismiss key on my iPhone. I cannot keep my eyes open because I feel like death due to an overwhelming amount of exhaustion, even though I calculated that I slept the night before for at least seven and a half hours. I concluded, however, that the thought of school itself ensued my unmotivated, depressed
Extinction? No! As I see it, families could have been lost long ago with the severity in which one parented. Upon my father’s death, I had an enlightening conversation, with my Uncle Bill, about the abuse my father suffered at the hands of his father and mother. My Uncle, by marriage, shared the many torments my father experienced, and yet his siblings were untouched. My father married, had two children with my mom, and adopted me. He was a terrific father, with very few exceptions.
In my four years of my high school experience, I was not excited to go to school or even be at school due to the long days, but at the end of the day, I was really excited to attend a place
Furniture, valuables, and boxes are stacked all the way to the ceiling. By this time, I have been accustomed to the process of putting my valuables in a storage locker. I had to leave my house and stay with a friend of the family. From middle school to my sophomore year of high school, I lived in seven different places. Therefore, it was convenient to have a storage locker to keep my belongings in. It was comforting to know that my stuff would still be there when I found a permanent place to stay.
SMACK the bat slammed right into my forehead. The next thing I know I’m sitting on the ground and everyone was silent. I stood up, brushed off my pants, and walked inside the house. I asked for an ice pack and laid on the couch until the party was over. I was pretty bummed that I didn’t get my chance to hit the pinata.
Growing up, I had always been surrounded by adults, I knew I could rely on. The thought of being an adult, seemed very distant to me, at least that was until I entered teenagehood. At the age of 12, I went under the custody of my aunt because my mother had to move to another state, due to health reasons. Not having my mom definitely made me more self dependent. However, I still had my aunt and uncle as parent figures, who I could depend on, so I truly did not feel the need to grow up just yet.
My parents got together in May of 1983, they were both 18 years old. My dad, Mark, was your all-American guy who loved muscle cars, dogs, and racing. My mom, Kathy, was the fiery neighbor girl who wouldn't take anything from anyone. After a short six months of dating, they got engaged, however, the engagement lasted nine years. Two years later, my brother Matt came along on June 29, 1994. Matt was the apple of my fathers eye, they did everything together. Illegally, my dad got my brother into racing early by forging his birth certificate to say he was older. Matt raced dirt bikes, go carts, quads, and three wheelers until he was twelve years old.
On June 20, 2015, I got up out of bed feeling refreshed and new because it was practice for graduation day. Walking to the bathroom, I took a warm shower and brushed my teeth with mint toothpaste. I got dressed in a rush throwing on some jeans with a black shirt. Heading to the living room, I stopped and asked my stepfather if he could drive me to school because it was his day off. “ Sure,” my stepfather said, sitting on the gray couch watching television. As we went to the car, he shut the front door locking the top and bottom. I got in the passenger seat of his white pickup truck. While he drove me to school time, I can feel the vibration through the seat from the engine. When I got to the drop off zone in front of the school, I notice class
This past week it has been very interesting to learn about the various defense mechanisms that protect us against anxiety. While I was previously familiar with some of these ego-protecting behaviors, I was unaware of their purpose. These mechanisms distort reality in order to disguise the id’s socially unacceptable desires.
Technology is currently and will continue to become helpful to our daily lives as it advances on into the future. Computers and even laptops are a good means of education because of the portable ways individuals can use them when needed on the go. Though many people claim that technology has distanced humanity from nature, it is still the source of the immense development that people do not notice. Many argue that in our generation, we spend less time with people, and more time on our devices or talking to people online. The lack of communication is one of the top problems since the advancement of technology has taken place. Looking at the positive aspects of technology not only shows how much better our world has become, but how improved learning,
