A Broken Wrist Everyone has a memory that they could remember vividly, whether it be the best day in their life, or a wedding. My memory, involves none of that. Instead, it involves a lot of pain. Breaking my wrist for the first time, still haunts me to the this very day. I still can feel it after the incident occurred in early 2008. The day began like any normal day. I was in 4th grade, and I was almost ready to go into 5th grade. It was a Saturday, in May, in which I had no school. My older brother was a senior in high school, just as I am today. He was in band and had a band competition in Madison. I wanted to go because I always enjoyed a car ride, whether it be from my house to the store, or to California, it made no difference to me. …show more content…
Being a typical 9 year old, I bawled my eyes out. When I moved my arm, it hurt even more. My mom came over to see what all the commotion was all about and I told her what had gone on. I also told her that whenever I moved my arm, it hurt and it felt very weird. She told me we would have to head to the hospital in Columbus to go get an X-Ray to see if it was broken. Thankfully, this was after my older brother’s band’s performance. He came over to us, and my mom told what was about to happen and what we were about to do. He wasn’t happy, to say the least. After about 5 minutes of arguing, my brother lost and my mom took the rest of us to Columbus. As we got into the car, she told me to keep my arm as still as I could, to which I did. We didn’t go to the hospital right away, however, we went to McDonald’s instead to try and make me feel better with some ice cream. It worked, and made me feel glad, even until I got into the hospital. I had never had a broken bone before up until that point in my life, so I didn’t know what to expect. We sat in the waiting room for about 5-10 minutes, until the nurse came into the room to tell us that the doctor was waiting. We got into
Over the summer of 2009 I was playing with my friend Carissa, at Rohner Park, while we were playing on the monkey bars after a while of jumping off and landing on our arms to many times my bone gave out and i broke it. While screaming in pain my dad tried to ask someone for a cellphone to call my mom to come pick us up and take us to the hospital. When my mom finally arrived my dad rushed me into the car so we could go to the hospital. While we were in the car i told my mom to go faster because the pain was really starting to hurt.
My freshman year of high school I broke the Scaphoid and growth plate in my right wrist while playing in a basketball game. I didn’t know that it was broken for two weeks and I played in three of four basketball games with my broken dominant hand. I found that is was probably broken the Monday before Christmas. On Christmas Eve I was told that I would be put in a cast for the entire Christmas break and on January 3rd we would find out if it was really broke. Sure enough we came back and told that I would have to be in a cast for six to eight weeks. I was pretty devastated and upset that I would be out for the rest of the season, it had barely begun. I was staying pretty optimistic about it because it would give me a chance to work on my weak hand, it was my left, and make it stronger. I still went to practice and worked as hard as I could hoping that the coach’s
My left elbow hurt very badly and I could feel blood running down my arm. It hurt so badly that I was crying. After a few minutes, I tried to get up, but I made my elbow hurt so badly because I was adding pressure to much pressure to it. Then I bent my elbow to see if it was broken because on the shows my parents watch, the doctors tell the injured people to bend their arms or legs to see if they are broken. Finally, someone noticed me and called Jaci’s mom, Brooke, over.
It was a normal spring night and my baseball game had just started. It was senior night and I was pitching, we had just finish the first half of the first inning. My teammate struck out, it was my turn to hit, I swung for the ball and my leg popped twice. I went down and didn't get back up, My leg was stuck to my chest and I couldn't move it. The visiting team's coach was an EMT he ran over and said ¨this is going to hurt¨ and pulled my leg straight. What had happened was when I swung the bat my leg didn't move and my kneecap dislocated and instead of my ligaments tearing, they stretched and broke my kneecap. This was a challenge for me because this was the first time I had never broken a bone in my life. I went to the doctor and he said nothing was wrong, so my
The accident happened just hours before the first softball tryout of the season. Unfortunately, I knew that this would be an end to my years in softball due to the drastic proportion of the break. Yes, I was bummed, but then I remembered that breaking my arm was a new opportunity to meet people or have new experiences. As I laid in the hospital listening to how my 2 surgeries were going to work out I whispered to myself repeatedly, “remember this is a new, helpful experience.” That was exactly what it was, too. My time through the hospital was full of influential people that to this day I continue to think about what they taught me. For example, one special nurse taught me that breaking my arm wasn’t a lost opportunity, but only a set back and once my arm healed I’d be stronger and better than ever. Though I never returned to the softball field I still remember from time to time that again, when bad situations happen, it is not the end of the world, it’s only a setback to push you into something
In the beginning, physical therapy made my recovery tedious. I was only interested because it allowed me the opportunity to learn numerous types of injuries from a variety of individuals. For example, I met a girl who broke her arm from falling off the monkey bars. Or the boy who had a complete elbow dislocation, while playing basketball. Although I was entertained by these interesting stories, they made me feel guilty. I was congratulating strangers for their quick recovery, while my own felt treacherous. Therefore, I grew frustrated and irritated with physical therapy and I denied any positivity in my recovery. I became envious until my envy evolved into a depression because I was incapable of physical activities. Therefore, I was forced
My friends and I were Pokemon go hunting and I caught a lip of the concrete. I was at the courthouse with Daniel Ace Miguel and we were playing Pokemon Go.
When my sister was in middle school (6th grade), she fell to the ground while she was playing with her friends during the lunch break. Her right hand started to swell and it was hurting her, but she didn’t realize that it was a bone fracture. When she got back home, I saw her swelling hand so I went ahead and applied an ice back to the injured area. By using a bandage, I was able to stabilize her hand to her neck and called 911 to seek immediate medical care. A wrist fracture was the result of the examination and the x-ray. Later on, an orthopedic doctor applied a cast on my sister’s hand and told her to keep it safe, dry, and clean. Four weeks later, the doctor removed the cast after taking another x-ray that showed the bones in their normal
It all started the day when my dad bought me a knife for my birthday. Well I ended up in the ER, here’s how. So we were on the way back to my mom’s house and all my siblings were playing tag, but I didn’t really want to play because I wanted to use my new knife. Then I got dragged into playing we were outside for a good two hours, but when we finally finished my step dad let me go to the back yard and cut a stick. So I was having fun for a good 5 minutes, but all of the sudden the knife slid back and cut open my hand, I knew immediately I was going to the doctor because you could see the bone and fat hanging out of my finger. So I called my mom and told her I cut my finger all she said was
Memories remain painful because we attach an emotional charge to each of them. You walk by strangers every day and you don’t store any significant memories because there isn’t an emotion attached. However, if that stranger tripped you or hit you, you would remember it because it brought pain, anger, and distress. Therefore, you will store that under the umbrella of painful and negative.
The weird part: I didn`t cry. I just remember screaming as loudly as I possibly could as my friends rushed to me and called my parents. I heard gasps, as people tried not to stare at my instantly bruised elbow turning purple and blue. As I was rushed into an ambulance, I could see the worry in my parents sorry eyes, and didn’t know what to do. Once we arrived at the intimidating hospital, with people on gearnies being rolled around all over the first floor, the doctor came to me after what felt like a year. They rolled me to a dark, secluded room where they x-rayed my elbow. I was rolled back and put on medicine that relieved the pain, and put me to sleep, which after all three doses, still barely worked.
Today i will be writing about who I broke my arm. People always thought that i was active hardheaded and challenging and more active now let’s get to the story... Honestly , it was my first time going to the Accident and Emergency department i was scared and worried about what will happen to my wrist and how will my parents react .While my teacher was doing all the registration i sat there in state of shock . It was really a blessing having my best friend by my side comforting me and constantly telling me everything will be alright . I was then called to do some X-RAYS before consulting the doctor . My parents finally came and just right it was my turn to consult the doctor , my mother then went in together with me . The doctor was then examining my X-RAYS that i took before consulting him . My heart was beating very very fast as I am a right hander and i need my right hand to do many things . Finally the doctor spoke , he said that there was no obvious or major fractures shown in my X-RAYS but i have to put an temporary cast on my hand. He then referred me to a specialist at KK Children Bone Specialist to ensure there was no hairline fracture or any small minor fractures .
Have you ever broken a bone? Have you ever bent one? Breaking bones hurts a lot, but sometimes bending, fracturing, or in some cases spraining a bone hurts a lot more. You can already guess that I have done something to some bone in my body. Let me share my experience.
For the most part, its kind sad that when you trying to backtrack your life one of the first memory is an unforgettable one with horrible pain. I had to have been no more than three or four. I can’t remember my mother or father teaching me or
