Look, I didn’t deserve it. I didn’t accept the facts. I didn’t understand.
It all started when I heard the familiar, yet unexpected, ding of the doorbell.
As anyone would do, I unlocked my front door to my cozy little apartment out of curiosity and opened it. Looking back on it, I wish I could’ve done anything but open that door.
And that’s when I found it. The letter was ordinary and traditional. Sealed in a pale and thin envelope, it looked as if it was a person who hadn’t seen the sun in years. Shined on with the dim streetlights, it rested on the rocky and rough surface of the apartment floor entrance, staring at me. Now, don’t be fooled. I felt helpless to defend myself against disturbing thoughts. I didn’t move for a long period of time. Meanwhile my mind did nothing more than attack itself. What if I really do die tomorrow? Infact, it never did. Little did I realize, I was wasting the little, crucial time I had left.

Time passed as I remained in that kitchen chair. Until the doorbell broke me out of my continuous, horrific train of thoughts, that is. I jumped up, and stepped towards the door. This time, I was a bit more skeptical. What if it’s another note? I shook the thought aside and listened to logic. I flicked the lock open, gripped the door handle, and swung the door open. To my relief, it was a police officer. The man looked to be in his late 20s. He was slender, suited in black jacket with a golden badge. With a set of dark chocolate eyes that matched his hair, and unintentionally narrowed eyebrows, he looked to be a man all about business. “Miss, what would be the problem?” I told him everything that I told the lady on the phone. He response was the same as hers. “May I see the note?” I started to bring my hand forward, but instead an odd sense came to me. I felt nothing in my hand. I don’t recall having set it down anywhere …

Embarrassed, I apologized to the officer and asked him to step inside while I searched for it. A minute later, I gave him what I found.
