“We don’t have anytime time to waste today guys, get moving!” my mom announced. My brother was coming today and she wanted the house to be spotless. We had just started fall break and I was in the fourth grade. I was playing games and relaxing like any 10 year old would do. My dad was lounging on the couch watching some show, and my siblings were running around. By then I had only 5 siblings, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. We had known for a while that Johnny, age 9 at the time, was coming to live with us, what we didn’t know was that he would bring with him a fish. I was happier than a child opening presents on Christmas. The fish was a beautiful white male betta with long flowing fins. He lived in a small 1 gallon tank with blue pebbles, pointy …show more content…
I eventually saved up the money and was able to get the fish. I was ecstatic that day, but there was also a hint of nervousness. What would it look like? Would it live long? I remember watching Shadow, Johnny’s betta for hours on end. I was mesmerized by everything about him, from the way he swam to the way he ate. Soon, it was time to finally get my betta. My mom, Johnny, and I walked into Petco on a sweltering October afternoon and I immediately saw the baby bettas. They were so petite and dainty. As I looked at them, they seemed to be saying, “Pick me, pick me”. I had a very tough time choosing just one. As I scanned their little cups, I noticed one in particular that stood out. It was a blue, green, and red betta with the biggest eyes and most adorable face. I chose it and as we paid for it, I was thinking up names. The name had to be perfect, not too short, but not too long. It couldn’t be a boy name or a girl name because, at the time, I didn’t know the gender. Driving home, staring intently at my new friend, I thought I had come up with the perfect name. It wasn’t until I had it swimming around in its little tank, with rainbow pebbles and a blue plant, that the perfect name came to me. It’s name was
The sparks fly in the air, there are marshmallows in your hair, and you’re with your favorite people in the world. This is called the best place on earth, for me at least. I enjoy camping so very much, you meet new people, experience different things, make new memories, and have a blast. You also see new sights, smell some things, and always wake up to the birds singing and not the bustling streets of the city. Camping is my go to activity.
Were I to name one thing unique about me, it would be that I’m one of the only people I know who can say from experience which is more difficult; writing a personal essay or surviving a life-or-death, take-no-prisoners spy shootout, complete with a crowd of bad guys, laser guns, and of course, a hero and a sidekick. I’m the sidekick.
I wake up at 5:30, five days a week, and each time I try to cram in five extra minutes, I end up having a late start to my day.
The sky melted from a clear blue to creamsicle orange and pinks to a dark, starry navy. I could see the sun’s transition really well inside the little glass diner I worked at, Cosmo’s. The ceiling and walls were constructed entirely of glass, and blue lights made up the floor, giving the small diner a cold, lonely feeling. The booths were silver with pastel blue cushions, the tables silver with shimmery blue tablecloths, pressed under glass. The bar table, that enveloped me, silver with blue lights underneath the glass top, accompanied by tall, blue faux leather bar stools.
I was sitting in one of my friend’s basement, talking, laughing and messing around like we normally do. Because the July heat was almost unbearable, we are all going to the beach later. My friends and I do a lot together and we have been a group since about 5th grade. Also my family and I share everything with each other, and we really like each other unlike some families who hardly tolerate each other. I have lived a pretty good life so far. I get good grades during the school year. There is also a chance that I will play college basketball after my last two years of high school. My life is heading in a good direction, and the whole world seems on my side. Then I get the phone call and know that something is wrong and that my life was about
Every year I go on my boat to various places. However this year was special because it was the year that my parents trusted me more. It was the year that I turned thirteen There is a law by which when an individual turns thirteen, they don’t have to wear life preservers anymore and they are allowed to drive small boats on their own. A little while back, I got my boater's license which allowed me to drive jet skis and engines above fifteen horsepower.
School was letting out for summer and there was pure excitement in the air, or at least that’s what I thought. I was 15 years old and I had a huge summer in store since I got my first car and I could drive anywhere I wanted. I always had a great relationship with my grandfather ‘Pop’ and since he lived in town we did a lot of stuff together. He was 79 years old, but you couldn’t tell it because of his energy and health. I knew ‘Pop’ had been sick but I never thought twice about it, because he had always been really healthy. Being the young stupid kid I was I never went to check on him because it was summer and I would hate to miss out on something with my friends. That was my immature mindset, which made me feel very lonely for the majority
Abruptly awoken at the break of dawn towards the end of the hot season, my owner swiftly moves across the house gathering the essentials needed for his rigorous day. My owner’s name is Jordan and he is a six foot tall senior in high school. Jordan rises early many days and decides to sleep later on other days, which is quite confusing at times. Jordan does not always awaken me with all the commotion emitting from him, which is peculiar because Jordan sounds like a herd of elephants every morning. If Jordan’s loud and excessive noises do not rouse me the commotion of the other family members usually does the trick. After the tumultuous family dispatches I am left alone in a house of seldom activities for an animal. My day is spent waiting for Jordan, or any other human, to return home and grant me with their presence.
On some days, the alarm that I used to have beside my clock are the chirping birds outside. They seem to have taken pleasure of my endless complaining of wanting to go back to bed and not having to get up and do my morning routine. I dreaded waking up in the early morning for school. Where the sun has yet risen and the sky is still dark. I was leaning my head against the car window where my eyes was half lidded as they were fighting to stay awake. I keep having these in my head that repeated itself over and over again since yesterday. They always seem to have the desire to voice out the words, but I kept my mouth shut and reluctantly listened to my dad’s endless questions about whether I’m excited for school or not however I took note that
Two and a half years ago i was brought into this world. I couldn’t see or hear for quite a while so I just slept, and slept, and slept. I don’t remember the first day I could see, but i remember the first thing I saw. My mother. She was big and yellow with huge floppy ears I dreamed I would have one day. Her eyes were filled with compassion as she looked at me and my nine other siblings I apparently had. When I looked around at all of my brothers and sisters it was obvious I wasn’t the first awake. Three of my brothers were running around playfully in a huge pen located in the backyard. All three of them were yellow, but not me, I was black. Jet black with not even the slightest bit of variation. I had black fur, black paws, and black eyes.
At the sudden ringing of the school bell, Yuyuki quietly stood up with the rest of her class and faced the front of the classroom and bowed, following the teacher's example. She stuffed the test paper she was handed back into her book bag and prepared to leave when a couple of her classmates tapped her on the way out.
I remember dreaming about being lost at my former high school. However, it did not look like its usual self. The walls were painted red, blue, yellow, and white. Unlike its how it had been throughout all the years that I attended my school; the halls were empty and everything was quiet. I saw myself and though I cannot remember what I looked like, I do remember feeling happy.
I awoke with my head clouded with images of failure. My dad, beating me with a stick for not going out to get milk. My mother, hitting me across the head with her hand yelling at me for not making friends. My parents were very strict when it came to my studies, social life, and chores. They made sure I was taught right and how to impress girls for my 16th birthday, when I would choose a wife, but I had no business in doing so. I was 11 and my parents were already getting ready for my wedding.
It was in my home that beautiful blue morning that I realized it was my birthday and I wanted to go someplace for my birthday, I called my friends over to discuss the places we should go so after a few minutes my friends showed up to my house to chill and talk about where we wanted to go for my birthday. So my friends and I sat around talking a putting out ideas of different places and we finally decided to go to Myrtle Beach, SC. For my birthday I was extremely hyped to go, as I was getting a few things ready I noticed my phone was glowing and vibrating. I saw a notification from my bank I opened the app and saw I had gotten paid from my job I ended up with $550 I got excited and knew that day was
In the early morning, I took a deep breath in, a familiar scent filled my nose: a pungent odor of salt and a pinch of sulfur in the damp air. The droplets of briny seawater clung to my stubble as I peered into the storm. The fog overcame my sightlines, I could only see about fifty meters in the distance. As our vessel sailed through the choppy waters, I could make out what looked to be a wall of some sort. Suddenly, an alarm sounded behind me. Rapidly, I turned around to see why someone had triggered such a ruckus, Captain Byrne sat in the cockpit signaling for me to hurry back inside the boat, that’s when I noticed the seeming wall-like object was a wave. I pushed my way through the strong winds back inside to where the rest of the
