In my life I have never been a person to attend church or religious ceremonies. I have gone twice to church and I personally didn’t like because I think that one doesn’t need to go to church to worship god. I believe that as long as you have faith god would never abandon you. My experience in the Jehovah`s Witness ceremony was very interesting because they are very similar to Christianity but their believes are different. The place were the ceremony took place was called Kingdom Hall. Inside the building there was a sitting place for like regular participants or members. There is also an additional room that is like a cubicle that people that have children sit there and also elderly people sit there because they might need to use the restroom and the children cry. The room is mainly for individuals that could cause distractions in the ceremony. There is also another room for people that want to make a confession or talk about their sins. In the front of the people there is like a small stage that a person talks about the topics of the day. Next to him there are 2 wooden stands for people to go and read verses of the bible. There are also chairs with tables like is one table on one side and the other table on the other side. Usually women give presentations of preaching that specifies a topic like for example they train or present how to approach another person and explain to them the bible. On the outside the place was gated and there were plants and gravel to decorate
The Service in which I attended was at the Holy Cross Perish in San Jose off Jackson street and North 12th Street at 6:00pm. It was still day time so I was able to get a good glimpse of the area in which the church was in. We parked across the street from a park that was called Backesto Park where it seemed that some people from the church would wait there until the service would start, because when I was waiting outside the church I was able to look over at the park and noticed a good amount of people coming toward the church. The experience was pretty interesting. I am a Latino and it was still a bit hard to understand what the priest was saying. The church seemed to look like a regular one with rows of benches
I am an atheist, but it wasn't always that way. My entire life there was a constant pressure on me to accept that there was a supreme being that created all. Even at a young age I couldn’t bring myself to fully believe this. I continued grasping for straws because, just like every other religious person, I was scared of the “consequences” that would come with not believing. My Non-Denominational Christian Church promoted telling this to everyone, even children.
Christianity is the religion based on the life, death and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, also known as the Christ or Messiah. Jesus was a Jewish teacher and prophet who lived in Palestine in the first century CE. He revealed himself to be the Son of God in fulfillment of Hebrew scripture, and taught that the Kingdom of God was imminent, bringing with it forgiveness and new life for all who believed. His claim to be the Messiah roused opposition from religious and political authorities and he was imprisoned and crucified. His followers believe that after his death, Jesus was resurrected before being taken up to heaven.
I interviewed my dear friend Ashley Johnson for my Religious Experience Project. She was a natural choice for me. I admire her genuineness and kindness, but what inspired me to interview her for my project was how seamlessly her religion is integrated into her life. She is a shining example of Christianity without ever being preachy. She has a passionate and intimate relationship with her God that inspires me. This is exemplified by her response to my question “How would you describe your relationship with God?” Here simple answer was: “Like a love story.” I know I have much to learn from her and understanding her religion and beliefs would be a good place to start.

In my second field experience, I’d decided to go to a Baptist church. However, I did not come from a religious background. Although I am not completely in the dark when it comes to religion I have learn about different religion through friends and books. Therefore, I thought this would be a great opportunity to finally experience a service and put my ignorance aside. Meaning the assumption and expectation I had of church service. Furthermore, it provided me the opportunity to challenge myself and my own biases I have towards going to church. Once I went to church I was surprise to see so many black people, for the first time since I moved too Greensburg, I was actual able to see a room overflowing with individual who looked just like me, my first emotion was excitement and enjoy. Some of my expectation, was something I have learned from my mother. My mother always told me that “black people churches last longer”, with this in mind I was prepare to be there for a long time. However, to my surprise it did not last as long as I’d expected it to. My overall experience, was warming, peaceful and positive.
When the service started it began with prayer, during the service there were moments of prayer, and the service ended with prayer. Something that I found very entertaining was the form of worship that they used which was singing. They sang a lot of different songs that worshiped God. You could tell who went to church a lot because they knew all the songs by heart. For those like me that didn’t know the songs, the words were projected on to the wall so you could sing along with everyone else. There was also a live band that played the music to sing to. This part of the service was really entertaining to me and I really enjoyed it.
Ever since I was a little kid, I have been going to church. Over the years, I have felt like I have come closer and closer to God. Through God, the church has influenced me to become a better person. They put me on the right path, helping me find the light that lead me out of the darkness. God, and more specifically the church, has given me hope and strength. They molded me into a person who looks forward to the future, and what I can accomplish. It is hard to believe that I will be going off to college soon. It seems just like yesterday that I started High School. However, as scary as the real world will be, I know I’ll have my family and friends to help. I know when I begin my work as a Computer Scientist, I will have God at the helm guiding
My faith journey has been challenged throughout my life. I have had many ups and downs, and many times when I questioned my faith. Although those times were rough, I found comfort in God and knowing that He is always there for me. One of my favorite quotes is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. This quote got me through tough times when my faith was shaking.
Within each church, spirituality is expressed in different traditions and is practiced in various ways. In identifying these traditions Richard Foster placed in six categories namely, contemplative, holiness, charismatic, social justice, evangelical and incarnation. Although these traditions are found to be central to our Christian faith each church has demonstrated a tendency to prefer the practice of one over another.
Some people may be scared to give their life to Christ because they’re scared he will set them out and judge them for their sin. Walking with Christ has helped me grow as a person spiritually and giving my life healing. Having Christ in my life gives me comfort with myself. Since getting right with Christ, it has changed my personal mind set. As well having Christ in my life has helped me feel whole as a person. Romans 10:9 says “If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” As a Christian you have a chance to begin a new spiritual life as well as start your life over. “New beginnings with God are possible no matter how spiritually low you have gotten”. The lord forgives your sins, gives you eternal life and never leaves you side. God has a plan for you and would never cast you out or judge you for you sins. Everyone should have a chance to start a new beginning.
To experience a new religion is to open one's mind to an entirely new world. For my World Religions course, I was asked to visit a place of worship for a religion other than what I was most used to. Upon considering being raised as a Pentacostal Christian, the first idea that came to me after hearing this was for Billy and I to go with our friend Arjun's family to a Hindu temple—since Arjun had moved away recently to go to college however, he was unable to attend.
I've been attending church for as long as I can remember. The earliest time I remember going to church was when I was in pre-school, and I attended the same church until high school. Sundays were routine, we attended church, went out to eat after with other members of the church, and then went home to watch either football or baseball (sports being my second religion). Skipping church was never an option, nor did I really want to miss it. I had good friends at church, and was genuinely interested in the bible and the stories we read.
¶ 324.9a - Describe your personal experience of God and the understanding of God you derive from biblical, theological, and historical sources.
Since the day I was born my parents took my sister and me to church ever Sunday. I grew up in a loving Christian home and was encouraged at an age where I could fully understand, to purse a relationship with Jesus. I accepted Christ into my heart when I was in the second grade and was baptized in the fourth grade at age 10. Growing up I have always been super involved in Church. I have a heart for people and love serving. Since 3rd grade until now, my senior year of high school I have been on the leadership team with my youth group. I can not imagine my life without Jesus as the center. I have been pushed to step out of my comfort zone and because of that I have grown in several different ways. For example, I am an extrovert and enjoy getting new people, but never liked public speaking as I felt nervous and intimidated. By the many adult leaders, and pastors coming along side of me and encouraging me to step of on my comfort zone I now highly enjoy speaking and spreading the truth about The Lord in big groups of people. I am so thankful for the many God loving people that have come in my life and helped stretch me. Jesus is my entire life and I am nothing without him.
