Personal Essay: Why Immigrants To Cross The Border

Illegal immigration has been a huge problem of United States for a long period of time. There are two common ways of how people come to US illegally; first is to cross the border between Mexico and US; second is to overstay when they come to US as a visitor. Why do people want to come to the United States if they are going to be here illegally? Simply, because those illegal immigrants want to have a better life than what they have back in their homeland; but the question here is why then did people come to the United States illegally if they are not getting any benefits? As I asked myself this question, my mind begun to think about the

When I immigrated to America in 2006, I had no clue how greatly my education will be affected. Because my parents did not know any English, I had to accomplish all the work by myself. I understood their struggles of trying to put dinner on the table so I tried not to complain. They had given up their old life in Vietnam to give me a better education and opportunities, I did not want their effort to go in vain. Because they have completed their sentence’s and paid their debt to society, shouldn’t they be able to have a say in what goes on in the world that they too live in? Therefore, being able to reinstate their right to vote. Felons should have the right to vote no matter what their past may be. To get a better idea of how important this issue is we will be looking at several things. America is traditionally a country of immigrants. Very few people today have relatives who were Native Americans, many of them because of religious persecution, and others because of they were just looking to start a new life on the exciting untouched frontier. For instance, in Florida, the first arrivals were European, beginning with the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon who explored the land in 1513, following French and Spanish settlement during the 16th century. From the past, America was seen as a country of opportunities. People from all over the world have moved here looking for better opportunities. There are a lot of reasons why immigrants should live in this country, but I would like to mention three of them.

“Mom, will I ever be treated as a regular person? When will I be like the others without people look at me in a strange way and make fun of me, when mom? When?” Those were the questions I did to my mom almost every day after getting home from school. Fourteen years ago that my parents brought me to this country offering a better life with better opportunities than where I was born. I was seven years old when came to the United States, but I still remember the happiness I felt when I first step in this country. Throughout the years, I have realize that not everything is easy and simple as I imagined. My parents worked in the fields because of the lack of a social security and not knowing how to speak English. Many Americans do not know how hard it is the life of an immigrant, they should have a consideration for us and not just blame us for the deviance of the United States.

Mexican Border Problems The U.S.-Mexico border region is one of the most dynamic in the world. It extends more than 3,100 kilometers (2,000 miles) from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean, and 100 kilometers (62.5 miles) on each side of the international border and is marked by high concrete fences in the west and a broad shallow river in the east when it reaches Texas. The region includes large deserts, numerous mountain ranges, rivers, wetlands, large estuaries, and shared aquifers. While its people share natural resources like water and air, the border region is characterized by many social, economic, and political contrasts.

Most Americans place their pride in being apart of a country where a man can start at the bottom and work his way to the top. We also stress the fact that we are “all created equal” with “certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” (Jefferson 45) During the early 1900s white Americans picked and chose who they saw fit to live in America and become an American. “Those that separate the desirable from the undesirable citizen or neighbor are individual rather than race.”

What is the "ideal" immigrant? When talking about immigrants and what we as Canadians consider to be a "good" or "bad" one, what do we mean? Is there such thing as a good or bad immigrant? Canada preaches diversity but when it comes to the ideal immigrant they know exactly who they want to bring into the country. There are several factors that when combined amount to the "ideal" immigrant, these include; high levels of education, high productivity, skills, and knowledge.

America is the promise land. Where freedom, equality, and opportunity are more than just words, they’re a reality. Immigrants come to America to escape poverty and have a better life but we can’t see that. We as humans fear the unknown and we don’t much about immigrants. All we know is what we are told by the media. Today we hear and read that immigrants bring violence, take our jobs and simply destroy America but they do quite the opposite. Immigrants help America with the economy, technology and making it a more enriched place of people and culture. Growth in our country is necessary but there will be no growth without risk and acceptance. We need to accept those who have taken a risk in search of one thing, a better life, a life worth living.

The United States is a country affected by illegal immigration. The term illegal aliens or what is most commonly known as illegal immigrants, the word alien is simply a person who comes from a foreign country. A much more accurate expression for these groups of individuals is the term illegal alien. The term illegal alien is a much more precise term because it deals with both undocumented aliens as well as nonimmigrant visa overstayers. Both terms illegal alien as well as illegal immigrant are used to describe individuals who have broken the law of our country to enter and work illegally. Many people are unaware of the heartbreak that takes place on our border in the south. Between the media and uneducated Americans, the immigration at the border needs to be addressed or our country will be overrun with illegals according to the news and social media. The true heart-breaking story cannot be told or our country would not stand for this inhuman behavior. There are many reasons for crossing the border illegally. For instance, women could be fleeing for their life, looking for freedom, wanting the chance to raise their family without the fear of abuse, or just because someone told them their life would be better if they could just get into the United States. Regardless the reason, everyone should at least be asked why they are willing to risk their life and their families lives to live in the United States?

All my life, my mother and father has told me how hard it has been to support our families in Vietnam. The economy from here to there is so horrible that we have to support them. We're always sending at least about a million in Vietnamese money which is equal to about a hundred in American money due to the currency between America and Vietnam. Because of these two reasons, I am in favor of having better immigration process for people who come outside the US.

America is a country of immigrants. The country was founded by travelers, pilgrims, and entrepreneurs from lands far from the New World. The land was fought and controlled by migrants. The doctrine for which this land gained law and order was written by the decedents of aliens in this land. And a century after the perils of war had been shed, a huge flux of new travelers sought after the riches that were able to be claimed in the beauty of this great expanse of land. There was so little to lose and so much to gain in the journey to the United States. Progress in monetary, religious, and cultural means fueled a fire beneath these migrants. A portion of my family’s history is no different than the accounts of many of the travelers from the Old World. There are too vastly many accounts from different members, to trace one lineage down is difficult enough. This is a loosely descripted account of my family which brought the Krumbholz name, my mother’s maiden name, to America.
