Although I did not pass with a distinction, I still managed to obtain an average of 72% for the overall degree.
I knew right from the start of the degree that I would need to approach the degree with a proper plan. Time management was crucial – therefore, I drew up a schedule to finalise all study related work well in advance. This allowed me to work overtime occasionally, even in this demanding phase, for any unexpected emergencies at work. Derrick Herbst – 21034113 30 June 2013 Personal Development 1 Assignment Page 2
The first and most important thing that I learned from my degree is to solve complicated problems systematically. On a personal front, I proved to myself that I am able to achieve more in life, and that personal motivation is a very important factor for achieving the most out of any experience or opportunity. I have also realised that time management is critical in order to satisfy all parties involved.
3. Implications that followed
My B-Tech degree served a twofold purpose in my adult life. Firstly, it helped me identify my strengths and what I would like to achieve in my career. Secondly, it gave me the confidence to take on further education in my adult life, knowing that, with careful planning, dedication and motivation, I am able to achieve my dreams and goals.
4. Professional
-Colleagues- I can talk to them about work top get guidance on things, and also observe them to help me see how some things are done improving and development.
Reflection is a major factor in "developing self-awareness" to improve services provided to everyone around me, this is to develop my own understanding in realising the good and bad made previously. Moving forward with a better understanding, as well as rectifying the mistake whilst recognizing the good points, (Horton-Deutsch and Sherwood, 2008).
Use the cycle diagram below to show how you have developed your knowledge and skills, to show the importance of reflective practice.
Some of the positive risks associated with embarking on a graduate degree are that it may improve your career, it can increase options and professional prospects, and it can satisfy your intellectual curiosity and spark passion. The skills and knowledge gained from a graduate education can improve one’s ability to do their best work and better position them for more opportunities to further their career. Though a graduate degree does not spontaneously lead to a promotion in title, salary, or responsibility, it can be very personal, if not also workwise, satisfying. Going to grad school can help one gain more flexibility in the type of work the student currently does, or by helping to prepare them for a job transition. A graduate education can

Most everyone has the general knowledge that critical self reflection is an important tool for self actualization. But just what is critical self reflection and how can we apply it to our lives? It is this need for knowledge that Kath Fisher addresses in her article “Critical Self-Reflection”. Throughout the article, Fisher highlights several main points, the definition of critical reflection and its distinguishing features, the difference between values, beliefs, and assumptions, and strategies and techniques on how critical reflection can be improved.
John has lived a long life and currently lives with his wife, Mary, in Pennsylvania. John’s children are now grown and they too have children of their own. That being said, he has three grandchildren. He is currently only taking methadone as a treatment for his past drug addiction, but other than that he is not on any prescription drugs. John is quite healthy; however, he still struggles with his disability. His hip replacement is wearing and he may have to have another surgery, but because of his age it is a risk. Even though he lives with a disability, he does not require a nurse and can still walk around, though only with a cane. It is clear that John’s life has been quite eventful and he has faced several hardships along the way. However, good things have come into his life and he has lived, and currently still lives, a very happy life.
Not only does this help determine one’s qualifications to be hired for a job but also helps them to exceed in said job. Employers today are looking for diligent students that they can depend upon to go above and beyond their set job description, and are happy to realize that the number of students of this kind continue to grow in number. Not only to please their employers, most likely, but also to give themselves a sense of pride and achievement for having the ability to be so versatile in a number of fields. The mere thought of this feeling alone is enough to encourage me to start going above and beyond in my studies, so that I may already begin to be more successful. These skills are beneficial to have in any place in life, and are encouraged to be gained at all points in one’s
First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone’s life because there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a degree…) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals. Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were the only group that had a better job. For instance, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, the unemployment rate is higher than the unemployment rate in age groups. Furthermore, the unemployment rate goes down with the effort being made employment rate reflects if
As I started this project, I had no clue what I would end up finding. I decided I would interview my little cousin, Chloe, who is thirteen, my aunt, Tammy, who is forty-four, and then my other aunt Melanie, who is thirty-seven. All of them being related I knew there would be some similarities. I asked all three of them the same ten questions and then choose a few questions on each of them to determine their level of psychosocial development.
When you are ready for deep personal development it is important to realise that in many instances knowledge gets in the way of emotional freedom. If you think about it for a moment, knowledge is all about words, reading and writing lots of little squiggles (words) that we attach meaning to, how I manifest that meaning may be very different to how you make sense of it.
The core value of personal development for this article will be respect. It’s important to understand that people have issues due to their emotional trauma. We must respect that their trauma is something that is affecting them in their life. Emotional trauma is part of child development because emotional trauma is part of how some children function because of what they went through or what they’re going through at their home. For example, a child has a hard time showing compassion because he doesn’t get it from his parents. Showing emotions such as compassion is part of development because that’s something you grow to learn as you develop. Trauma can sometimes mess things up for you and that’s it’s important to get the help you need to let
Erik Erikson is famous for his theory of psychosocial development, which emphasizes the sociocultural development and created eight stages that children undergo psychosocial conflicts. Children ages five to twelve go through the stage of industry vs. inferiority. The stage industry vs. inferiority is were children develop a sense of competence at useful skills and tasks during their middle childhood (Berk & Meyers, 2015). Children during this stage experience self doubt and their self-esteem tends to be low. Fifth graders should have a rite of passage that marks an important stage in their life, which is competency during middle childhood.
The British Association of Occupational Therapists (2007) states that reflective practice is fundamental in continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep skills and knowledge up to date and to practice effectively, safely and legally (Health and Care Professions Council, 2012). Reflection is vital for all healthcare students in order to establish links between theory and practice (Jasper, 2013), that will help increase clinical reasoning and enhance professional practice (Rigby et al., 2012). Using models of reflective thinking makes sure that reflections are meaningful to our personal CPD (Armitage et al., 2012).
Boud states that to review an experience one must ‘recapture the experience, think about it, mull over and evaluate it’ (Boud et al. 1985) I will follow this piece of advice when constructing my progress statement and development plan, I will also heavily consulted Kolb’s 'Experiential Learning experience as a source of learning and development ' cycle. He states that you go through an experience, then review it, conclude from it and finally plan the next stage. I followed this while making notes of what to include in my progress statement. This way I felt that I was covering all necessary stages in reviewing the work that I had done.
