Tchaikovsky was born into a family of four brothers and two sisters. His father Ilya Petrovich Tchaikovsky was an engineer by profession and was posted as a lieutenant colonel in the Department of Mining. His mother the second wife of Ilya Tchaikovsky was 18 years younger than her husband and belonged to French lineage. Pyotr loved his mother; often they saw concerts together, which sparked his interest in music. At age five, Tchaikovsky started taking piano lessons all while he was learning fluent French and German by the governess employed at their house. As he grew older and started composing music, Tchaikovsky went through several personal catastrophes that inspired him to write from the heart. The death of his mother was a huge deal to
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born April 25, 1840, in Votkinsk, Russia. Tchaikovsky was the second of six born children. He started composing when he was four years old. When he was in his teens his mother died. It was at this point that his dad realized that his son had a talent in music. So he sent him off to St. Petersburg Conservatory. After graduating from there he moved to Moscow to teach music theory at the Russian Musical Society. He did not really like teaching, however, he developed a relationship with Nikolay Rubinstein and this is where he started composing symphonies. In his mid-years of his life, he traveled Europe showing off all his beautiful pieces of music. He even traveled to the U.S. to attend the opening of Carnegie Hall. He ended his life living near Moscow and composed music until the day he died. He is the most popular Russian composer of
From this semesters listing list my favorite piece that we learned about was definitely Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Reed Pipes” form The Nutcracker suite. This was my favorite for two main reasons: it is a piece from the famous ballet The Nutcracker and it has simple, interesting, and recognizable melody. I have always loved going to the ballet, especially when I was a little girl, and The Nutcracker is a classic ballet that I have seen multiple times before. This piece of music from the ballet is the song that I have always been able to recognize and connect with this certain ballet. The “Dance of the Reed Pipes” is organized in three-part (trinary) form. The main form or statement of this piece is the three flutes playing a staccato melody that is repeated multiple times.

Tchaikovsky’s childhood remains shrouded in mystery. He is one of the few musicians where very little is known about his early life. He was raised in Russia and eventually was sent to law school by his parents. After quitting law school Tchaikovsky began studying music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He became one of the first Russians to become highly knowledgeable in music. After graduating, he began teaching at the Moscow Conservatory.
I know this was not the case for his entire lifetime, but for the beginning of it up to a certain point that is how it was even though that wasn’t his choice. I found it very interesting that he grew up with parents that were fully supportive of his musical passions because there are a lot of people who did not have that luxury. There are a ton of musicians who had to convince their parents that music was a passion worth supporting, some of which never succeeded. Mussorgsky seemed like a really nice guy to be around. I found it very interesting that he started learning piano at such a young age from his mother who was a piano teacher. I found it interesting that he wasn’t always into music from the beginning it wasn’t the only thing he ever did. He joined a regiment for the military and served in it for quite some time. I like how important his family was to him for example as soon as his mother began to get sick he went straight to live with her and was by her bedside until she passed
I’m doing my report on Ivan the Terrible. Ivan Vasiljevich the Terrible was born in 1530 and died in 1584. He was the son of the Grand Duke Vasili III. His mother Helena Glinsky was the daughter of a Luthuanian refugee who had found asylum in Russia. She was young, vivacious, intelligent, and beautiful. Vasili had married her after he tried to have an heir for 20 years with his first wife Salome.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born in Votkinsk, the Viatka District in Russia on May 7, 1840 to a Russian miner and a mother of French origin. During his early life, Tchaikovsky did receive some musical training from a French governess in the form of piano lessons, but the training did not continue. As a young child, Tchaikovsky's family moved to St. Petersburg because
Once being presented with this opportunity to write this paper I found it as a wonderful opportunity to express my opinion on two different musical greats. The one that I decided to choose for the old would have to be Tchaikovsky, and for the new by far my favorite choice would be the beetles. The selection of these two specific artist was almost a no brainer for me, they embody the perfect blend of inspirational music that delivers a specific, yet powerful message, both artist belong to different genres one from a classical genre and one from a more modern form of music. Also, both these artists viewed music regardless of the genre as a form of communicating a message to the masses, in the beetles era war was occurring in the world and in terms of Tchaikovsky he was one of the best ballet composers of his
Only a few composers in the history of time have ever successfully left their mark throughout our musical world we live in today. It’s been over two hundred years since the birth of Beethoven and his music still speaks to us today as he originally expressed and composed it. Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in the city of Bonn Germany on December 16th 1770 and has since been one of the most influential composers known to man. A common theme of early age learning and mastering seems to emerge in Beethoven’s life because while living in a musical family as a child, his father taught him how to play the piano, violin and in addition how to compose musical pieces since he was four years of age. A few short years later, he gave his first public piano performance at the age of seven. While Beethoven certainly gained a lot of knowledge from his peers, he also supported his family by giving music lessons and also by playing in the court orchestra. In the year 1792, Beethoven worked under an Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn and by the year 1800, his compositions established him as a strong Mozart successor.

ATchaikovsky=s music is not only one of the cornerstones of Russian musical society and world music . . . It is at the same time a creative and technical encyclopedia to which every Russian composer has reference in the course of his own work,@ commented Dimitri Shostakovich.1 This was a typical view held by Tchaikovsky=s contemporaries. He was well known and well respected, especially in his later years. In addition, Tchaikovsky was recognized as the most expressive Romantic composer in Russia.2 He was often idolized and put on a pedestal, particularly during his tour of the United States in 1891 when he conducted concerts of his own works in some of the leading concert halls. Tchaikovsky brought national attention to
Igor Stravinsky is considered by many the greatest composer of the 20th Century. Several composers have made breakthroughs and great accomplishments in the past 100 years, but Stravinsky has dominated nearly every trend set.
