Evita's case was unique, not in the fact that she was unaware that she had cancer for most people who had cancer back then were unaware, but because of the fact that her husband brought in George T Pack and Abel N Canonico, two cancer experts and she was given special treatment that most people would not have been given that if given to her sooner could have potentially saved her life. George T Pack was a surgeon, radio therapist, and pathologist at New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and eventually agreed to operate on Evita. While all of this was going on, the public only knew that Evita was having surgery, but not of the extent of the damage. While Pack was not optimistic of the surgery, and afterwards, after learning of the return of the cancer, refused to perform a salvage operation, believing it would not benefit Evita. Evita then received chemotherapy and was the first at the time to receive it. After all this had happened, Evita weight only approximately 79 pounds. The chemotherapy did not work either, and Evita was pronounced dead on July 26, 1952. (The Illness and Death..., 1-2) Juan Perón decided to have Evita embalmed by the best of the time, Dr. Pedro Ara of Spain. Many mysteries about Dr. Pedro Ara exist and whether or not he fell in love with the corpse of Eva Perón. Nonetheless, he oversaw the body and it stayed intact, even during its travels to different places. …show more content…
During her life, Evita showed she cared about the people and women as she worked till her death for the betterment of the Argentinians. Many things have been done to honor Evita since her death. Broadway made the musical, Evita, about Eva Perón that shows her journey from her rural home, to Buenos Aires and as she "slept her way to the top" finally finds Juan Perón whom she later marries and becomes First Lady when her husband wins his presidential election. The musical shows her whole journey to become a beloved, but controversial woman in Argentina to her death. Evita has also been honored in the movie adaptation of the musical Evita. The movie, also called Evita, stars Madonna and tells of Evita's journey in a musical as well. On the 60th anniversary of Evita's death, it was decided to put the face of such a controversial figure on the one-hundred peso note in honor of her and all she did for Argentina.
Growing up as a child in a poor family, Esperanza Cordero was very ambitious. She was ashamed of her family and her house, and she always had dreams of one day having a beautiful house on a hill, with flowers all around. A house she wouldn't be ashamed to point to and say it was hers. She knew
African-American Henrietta Lacks was a mother of 5 children who was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of rather large size that was located in her cervix. This was said to be cervical cancer. She attended John Hopkins Hospital to be treated. She is famous for her cancer cells, HeLa. Dr. Gey’s took samples of each person’s cells who had cervical cancer who came to this hospital. Henrietta Lacks’ cancer cells were not like anyone else’s cells; they did not die in Dr. Gey’s lab. Her cells actually grew twice in size about every day. I do not think she was treated fairly because her family did not profit from all of the discoveries since it has had such a big impact on the medical field still today.
In four months after the birth of the last child Henrietta began to find strange allocations on the underwear and on February 1, 1951, she came to Johns Hopkins hospital. After the diagnosis – cancer of the neck of the womb, and eight months later, despite surgical intervention and radiotherapy, at the age of 31, she died.

The Complete Persepolis, an autobiographical novel by Marjane Satrapi, tells the tale of Marjane’s childhood in Iran. In this story, Marjane (Marji) is brought up by communistic parents. Evidence of this Marxist upbringing is displayed several times throughout the book, like early on in the story when young Marji exclaims that “it was funny to see how much Marx and God looked like each other” (13). The audience can analyze Persepolis through a Marxist lens to see how particular ideas, specifically the ideology of consumerism, oppress Marjane, her family, and Iranian civilians overall. The main principle behind Marxism is that
Evita Peron was a woman who was loved all throughout Argentina. Her death had a large effect throughout the whole country. After she died, Domingo Tellechea, was in charge of making her body presentable for the country. According to a BBC article, her body probably stayed in a van parked on the streets of the capital, behind a cinema screen in Buenos Aires and inside the city's waterworks. However, she was stored in military offices. In 1957, her body was taken to Italy and buried in a Milan cemetery under a false name. Her next stop would be Spain. The Peronist Party wanted to look for peace, so they decided the body of Eva would be brought to her widower in Spain. So, her body was driven across Europe, and deliver to John Peron.
If sexual orientation is something that we can’t change or choose, then how are these specific preferences such as heterosexuality and homosexuality created? How does one person progress to either heterosexuality or homosexuality? Studies showed that there were genetic factors linked to influencing sexual orientation in males before they were born by increasing the female reproductive capacity in mothers during multiple births. (Iemmole, Ciani, 2008: 393) Though that doesn’t mean that there technically is a “gay gene” that has been discovered, just that several human genome studies has suggested promising areas of research that are pointing to that direction. When the cells finally began growing in Gey’s lab it was seen as a huge advance in the world of science, seeing as no one had succeeded beforehand, this was a great accomplishment on his part. However, Henrietta was never told of this or how important her cells had become, she simply continued living without knowing that the cancerous cells inside her were continuing to grow despite receiving “treatment” from the doctors. Her only treatment was a small patch of radiation sewn directly into her cervix on the area where the tumor had appeared, after some tests showed that the tumor had disappeared she continued with her normal life of farming, raising her children, and enjoying life. Henrietta never complained about any side effects of the radiation, however, it eventually would make her infertile and cause her skin on her torso to turn black.
Sex. It is everywhere. We see in television shows. In magazines. On the Internet. But sex is still seen as a taboo subject in our society. I believe that being educated about sexuality is vitally important to one health. Understanding one’s body and how it impacts your life. To understand how your beliefs about sexuality and sex have developed one needs to look back over the years and how your beliefs were engrained in your life. This essay will be based on my reflection by looking back on my sexual history on how and what have significantly impacted my development of sexuality. It is important to analyze and reflect to understand how I came to be today, that the past has created my ideas and beliefs about sex and sexuality that have shaped me.
Being queer isn't an insult! Many people of the LGBTQ ( lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community feel attacked by people who are homophobic towards them. People should be informed about the LGBTQ community, and how they are not bad people for being queer. Mainly because there is a big stigma associated with being part of the LGBTQ community.
In the words of Anne Bradstreet, “If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” As writers of the modern era expressed their hardships through poetry, one can only hope that they kept such advice in mind. Through captivating works, poets such as Langston Hughes, Edwin Arlington Robinson, Robert Frost, and E.E. Cummings expressed the struggles of life during the modern era. By examining what these poets have to say about dissatisfaction with life, feelings of inadequacy, and loneliness, it becomes clear that life during the modern era was full of hardships.
