What you see as reality is only defined by your belief structure. Everybody’s version of what is real is caused by the way they perceive it. Perception causes many people to be the way they are. It causes peer pressure, which leads to drug and substance abuse, which can lead to depression and anxiety. Just because of people’s skewed ways of perception, lives are ruined and are even lost. •Illegal activities: •Breaking and entering •Tresspassing •Stealing •Harming others •Murder Overdose/Illegal use of drugs: 2nd subsection One of the main causes of the overuse or illegal use of drugs is because of peer pressure, which is caused by the way others perceive you. Drug abuse is extremely hazardous to your body and your mental state. In fact, in 2012, there were about 183,000 drug-related deaths which were mainly caused by overdoses. Opioids were the main drug used. Since 2012, the deaths have only been increasing. Also about 84% of cocaine users end up in some point of their lives- even if they didn’t use drugs anymore, with mental illnesses. Some people take drugs because they are depressed or have anxiety and want to feel happy and. In all reality, even though drugs can help a person through a rough spot, it only helps for a small time frame. Right after the drugs wear off, the symptoms will come back and even worsen. You see, drugs are not a long term solution. Although they might seem tempting, the disadvantages weigh much heavier than the advantages. 3rd subsection: Depression There are many different types of depression. Major depressive disorder (MDD)is a serious mood disorder that severely impacts a person's everyday life and wellbeing. Catatonia is a type of depression where a person may seem unresponsive and if they are able to move, they are lucky. Catatonia is a type of depression that frequently confuses doctors. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is common during winter months, although occurring in summer too, where exposure to sunlight is minimal. An estimated 35 million people in the U.S. have suffered from dysthymia at some point in their lives. Dysthymia is a mild depression, but is long term. Atypical depression can be difficult to treat as its criteria isn't as easily defined as other types of depression.
