Peoria Notre Dame High School Research Paper

A trimester schedule makes PND stand out among Peoria area high schools. Peoria Notre Dame is in competition with the District 150 schools for students, as well as with the high schools in Dunlap, Metamora, and Washington. Since all of those schools charge no tuition and PND does, anything Peoria Notre Dame can do to set itself apart from them in a positive way would be beneficial to enrollment numbers. Unlike some of the other unique attributes of PND such as the 1:1 computer system, the house system, and the rotating schedule, the trimester schedule is easily advertised and explained to prospective students and families.

Little Rock Central High School was one of many segregated schools in America, where only whites were able to attend. In 1957, nine African-American students enrolled for Little Rock Central High, and were expected to integrate the all-white school. Their enrolment was followed by an outburst and the “Little Rock Crisis”. The nine students, known as the “Little Rock Nine”, were refused from entering the school ground by Orval Faubus. This was undeterred from the rule put in place three years earlier, where the U.S Supreme Court stated that “school segregation was unconstitutional.” Arkansas Governor refused to allow the pupils to desegregate Central High, even dispatching the Arkansas National Guard to keep the students from entering the school.

Tormented by the dry Texas sun, and the poor soil, the plant life in Eagle Pass High school has no chance. Everywhere you look there is dead grass and dead trees. However, in the middle of a field filled with the dead behemoths of trees, there stood a small struggling sapling.

The road to the historic desegregation of Little Rock Central High school began in the 1930’s when the NAACP tasked future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall with fighting segregation in schools. By 1950 he had helped to strike down segregation in universities in several states. In 1951, the NAACP aided parents of black children attending public schools in Topeka, Kansas in attempting to overturn the state’s segregation laws. After a three year court battle, the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education Topeka culminated in the abolishment of school segregation laws in 21 states. (Seeds 1)

Caity Farrell, a student at Western Harnett High School in Sanford North Carolina went to her guidance counselor, after finding out she was pregnant at the age of seventeen, about her college options. She had always dreamed of becoming a doctor and took honors and AP classes to make sure she could achieve that dream. Her counselor responded with telling her that she might as well go to community college because she already ruined her life. The schools are making student grades and attendance more important than their sanity and health. One in five students have a severe mental disorder and seventeen percent of students between grades nine and twelve have had suicidal thoughts. Nine percent of those students will attempt to take their lives.

My time at Sam Houston High School can be described as completing complicated and something I would never do again. However, that glorious end is in sight as I look at working for the good while of my life I think I would really enjoy myself with the amount of progress I would be making. While working, I plan on becoming really stable to do my own things. After, I hope to maybe go to a community college, with a concentration in Business Management. After completing my degree I plan to maybe own my own company or store.

I came into Norwalk Community College looking for a fresh start. I previously attended a 4 year university that became too much for me; attending school full-time, working 30 hours per week while trying to enjoy the college experience. At the cost of an “experience” I ended up failing most of my classes, putting my health at risk drowned by the tremendous amount of stress and just wanted to completely give up. Looking for a fresh start I decided to leave my University, and attend Norwalk Community College. Though this decision created self-doubt in the beginning, it soon came to my realization that it was the best decision I ever made. Immersed in an environment full of positive people, I was able to put my pieces back together.

This social issue has been in the spotlight for quite some time now and is the leading cause for students to miss school, become less social, cause self harm and even in some cases death. Bullying and harassment are commonly seen for the most part amongst teenagers who face issues at school, not only does this happen here in the United States, but in schools universally. ¨17% of American students report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or more within a school semester¨ (Valerie). Although this is mostly seen among teens it can also happen between children and even adults. In today’s society, a good quality education is an important and valuable necessity. As a college student at Lone Star College, my college experience has greatly influenced me in an enormous amount of ways. By attending college, I have not only had a chance to receive a quality education and degree, but also an opportunity to socialize and interact with various people from different cultures. In addition, the professors on campus have been extremely helpful towards teaching me to succeed in both inside and outside the class room. Furthermore, my college experience at Lone Star has greatly influenced and encouraged me to be successful and achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.

The memorable place of Lynnfield High School was the place that helped me discover where I wanted to be in life. After the hard work I demonstrated paid off, I was ready to leave my comfort zone for a new place. Growing up, I lived in a unique town called Lynnfield, located about a half-hour north of Boston. My hometown has countless special qualities that I will remember for a lifetime. The school system has a close knit community because the town only has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. My graduating class consisted of less than two hundred people, which is extremely small compare to surrounding towns. Overall my junior and senior years had the most memorable impact on me and my life.

It was my birthday. Two things that I never thought would happen. One was me getting a chocolate lab I named Hazel,the second was losing a loved one.These two thing happened on one day that I will love and hate for the rest of my life.

Throughout life I have had many memorable events. The memorable times in my life vary from being the worst times in my life and some being the best, either way they have become milestones that will be remembered forever. The best day of my life was definitely the day that I received my drivers' license. This day is one of the most memorable because of the feelings I had when I received it, the opportunities that were opened up for me and the long lasting benefits that I received from it that still exist today.
