"The Penny Debate " by Brad Andrew is an article written to inform Americans about an ongoing conflict. Both sides are supported with good reasons; However, I think It would be beneficial to keep the penny. Based on the article, which implies that fellow Americas would lose much more than we're gaining. Things such as; Getting rid of the penny, Charities ran on coins will lose profits, putting U.S. Mint further in debt, and prices would rise. Many may think that eliminating the penny will be a plus, but aren't looking at both pros and cons in-depth for future references. Rather than getting rid of the penny altogether we could use a cheaper metal to produce

Is the penny real relevant in our economy? There is no real need for the penny. People think pennies are a waste of tax money. Other people think that penny's are a good thing. Pennies should no longer be made because they cost more money, wastes money, and It's easier to pay.

Getting rid of the penny is good for the economy because it would save the government on average 60 million dollars a year. Evidence that supports this claim is, “Pennies may not be big money, even if you add them together. But we are paying a cost for the privilege of squirreling

Money is crucial in many ways or everyday events like for buying food, paying rent, etc. Money has its own value but not all currency is used. Money has its own value but not all currency is used. The penny has the least amount of currency and is found on the sidewalk, sofa, in between car seats because nobody benefits form the penny. It doesn't have enough value to be kept around so lets just end the penny ones and for all.

Imagine carrying around worthless pennies everyday. Each and every day the pennies value goes down, so why continue making it? The way the penny is designed, makes it cost too much to make.removing the penny will have little to no impact on the united states. When the penny is gone we will just round the price to the nearest five cents. I believe the penny should be banned.

The penny debate has been going on for many years. Many people want to get rid of the penny, but others want to keep the penny. We should keep the penny. The penny is a benefit in our society.

Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2% copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses. This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished.

The penny must be eliminated as quickly as possible. The United States is in massive debt and instead of cutting programs which are vital to the economy and to citizens of the United States, the United States must find ways to cut expenses in parts that are often over looked. One great way to cut down on unnecessary spending is the penny. Believe it or not, the penny, the smallest denomination of currency in the United States is a huge waste of money. The one cent denomination has no use. You can no longer “buy anything with a penny” anymore. (William) The only use the penny has is to pay for the taxes, which, can be rounded off to the nearest nickel thus obliterating the need for a penny.

The penny is one of the worlds most known coin. It is the cheapest and most worthless coin in the U.S currency, people are considering removing the penny from the U.S curency for a lot of reasons. The penny should be removed from today's U.S curency because it costs the government too much money to make the penny, people rarely use pennies because of how worthless they are, and the coin has been redone to many times.

To begin, nickels cost more than pennies. An article on The Spruce says this: “[The] Mint can make 5 pennies and still lose less money than making 1 nickel” (Headley). This quoted information is basically saying that it would cost less for five pennies to be made compared to just one nickel. The cost difference is actually about 1.4 cents, which doesn’t seem like much, but it may become a larger problem when the money amount adds up in the end. Furthermore, if the penny were abolished and the nation would be stuck using nickels, then the Mint would lose even more money. A popular argument for the abolishment of the penny is that it wastes the money for the Mint. This is partly true, but if the pennies were entirely eliminated, more nickels would be in demand, which would cost the Mint more. Twenty nickels, which equals a dollar, costs about $1.54 to make, compared to a dollar amount of pennies, which costs $1.26 to make. With all the pennies abolished, the number of nickels made would have to double, which would subtract more money from the Mint, leaving them with even money savings less than before

The penny has a lot of history, through the 200 years the penny changed design and value. Based on the article “The Ever-Changing Penny.” The first pennies were minted in 1857, they were very large, larger than a modern day quarter and had different images of the statue of liberty on the front(4). With this example, one can see,there were several visions for the penny before the final product of the Abraham Lincoln penny in 1909. The history of the penny reveals more than just a coin, it exposes a piece of american culture. The penny has influenced our language, giving us a number of idioms, such as “A penny for your thoughts” And “Not one red cent”(4). Despite its cultural influences the penny is under attack currently, the reason? Because making the penny also costs money, more than its worth,in 2011, it costs the U.S. more than 2.4 cents to produce the penny. The History of the One-Cent piece is a curious one. As a recognized part of modern American life, the penny is far too entrenched in our daily life to be abolished. In fact, the effort to abolish the penny would be enormous, and simply not worth the estimated benefits of such a monumental a change.

The penny should be eliminated because it cost about 2 cents to makes. That’s double its value. The penny may cost more to make then it is worth but the nickel does too. So if we are only banning the penny for how much it cost to make then we should ban the nickel too. The penny has already been eliminated in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Britain (Sommer). So we should eliminate them too. If we eliminate them we could damage our economy. Those countries don’t have the same economy as we do. So it may work for them but not necessarily for us. Pennies don’t help us in any way. They are useless and a waste of space. Pennies actually do help. People don't mind donating pennies since they are so low in value. The kids at WMS raised over 3,000 dollars in pennies (Waterhouse). So some may say pennies are worthless but they really aren’t.

Another reason we should not have to penny is because most people just throw away the penny. The Baltimore Sun article also says that “people that run landfills say they find about a thousand a year” (Hirsch). This shows that people don’t care about the penny and they are just throwing money away. Since people can’t buy anything with a penny anymore, it is useless

The U.S have been producing pennies for over a 200 years now and over time it has become very useless to the society. A penny is only one cent and to most people that is worthless. Pennies were more valued around the 1950s, when the products were very cheap to buy. As technology evolved, and as products got more expensive, the use of dollar bills and greater got more valuable. The abolition of the penny needs to happen in the United States. Because pennies are outdated, therefore the United States should abolish the pennies, since there’s no single products that can be purchased with a penny.
