Penicillin was truly nothing more than just an accident. Penicillin became a widely used medicine in many ways. Like many other things we have discovered Penicillin was an accident, that happened in a man named Alexander Fleming’s lab.
To begin, Penicillin became a widely used medicine for many reasons. One reason it became widely used was because how it was discovered. It was discovered by Alexander Fleming. Alexander went on a month long vacation, and came back to his lab cultures being covered in mold. One particular culture looked different, he noticed that the mold on that culture killed all the bacteria in it. Alexander did a bunch of experiments and discovered that the mold could kill bacteria and that could benefit humans. According to the text “It seemed that as it had grown, the mold killed the bacteria in the culture.” This quote means that if the mold could kill the bacteria in the culture than it could kill the bacteria in a human.
Another reason penicillin became widely used was because during

Moyer.
He was a lab expert on the nutrition of molds. Andrew with the help of Dr. Heatley, increased the yields of penicillin 10 times. This caused the penicillin to be the most effective antibacterial drug to date. According to the passage, it states that “ Andrew J. Moyer, the labs expert on the nutrition of molds, had succeeded, with the assistance of Dr. Heatley, in increasing the yields of penicillin 10 times.” This quote explains how they helped the penicillin flourish even more.
In conclusion, penicillin became widely used in many ways. Some ways are, by the discovery of it, by what it did to help people, and by how it became even better. Penicillin is a great thing that helped save many people’s lives. It also helped many doctors save their patients lives. Penicillin is also a great reminder that everything happens for a reason and even mistakes can help you reach your
The wonderful discovery of Penicillin, a medicine that was discovered in 1928. This medicine was used to cure bacteria in humans. Penicillin had good results not only in the 1928, as it also still is very successful today. Penicillin had a big impact, it cured many people in the U.S. during World War II. penicillin, leads to the development of others antibiotics.
Penicillin is an antibiotic that is used to treat infections caused by Bacteria. One may think that Penicillin has been around for a long time however, it was
In 1928 Dr. Alexander Fleming began to sort through a pile of petri dishes containing colonies of bacteria that causes boils, sore throats, and abscesses. As he sorted through the dishes he noticed something unusual on one dish. It was dotted with colonies, and one area had a blob of mold growing. The area of mold was later identified as a rare strain of Penicillium notatum, the mold had secreted something that inhibited bacterial growth. Fleming later uncovered that this mold was capable of killing a wide range of harmful bacteria such as streptococcus, meningococcus and the diphtheria bacillus, that had played humanities. Prior to the discovery of Penicillin, Sulfa drugs were used during World War II. These drugs were name as the “wonder drug”. Although they’re still used today, Sulfa drugs were used to cure bacterial infections such as UTIs and gonorrhea. The new found drug penicillin, would cure millions and replace the use of Sulfa drugs.
While some discoveries occur after years of painstaking research backed by times of frustration and the urge to give up completely, others occur after a mistake in a singular moment. Similar to the finding of X-rays and matchsticks, the discovery of penicillin by Sir Alexander Fleming in 1928 took place due to a complete accident.
Penicillin is a type of antibiotics. It fights nasty bacteria in a human body. Penicillin is used to help many different infections caused by bacteria. Penicillin was made for the soldiers in world war one, it was to help bullet wound infections and infections caused by lost limbs. Penicillin is made from extracting it from mould.
In this reading there was many very interesting facts about penicillin. Penicillin was a breakthrough in the medical field in the 20th century. The scientist Alexander Fleming had accidentally spilled a vile of bacteria on to a plate of bacteria to his benefit he found that is had stopped the growth of bacteria. This accidental discover has benefited everyone in the world because we have to get these shots if we are infected, plus it saved many life’s in world war II. However, Penicillin is considered an antibiotic chemical that is created by living organism to stop the growth of bacteria and prevent an illness if people were to come into contact with this problem. Since the discovery and massive stock piling of this cure it has become less
The development of penicillin provided a major stepping stone for the practice of medicine, and has saved the lives of countless individuals since its synthesis.
Penicillin is a widely known life saving product that kills bacteria. The medicine was made on accident by Alexander Fleming.Little did he know, this mistake changed the whole world. To start off, Everyone has accidents, even professionals. Most of the time, the accidents that happen are for the worse. But, some accidents can be for the greater good. When scientists and inventors have accidents they could get burnt in a lab or cause a fire. But, other times they make tremendous things. Some huge inventions that changed the world are the microwave, play-doh, x-rays and many more. Velcro was also made on accident by a swiss electrical engineer by the name of George de Mestral. Jesse Lane says “Velcro was invented when George de Mestral noticed how certain types of burrs would cling to his clothes and his dog’s fur whenever he took him for a walk in the woods.” Thus creating velcro that is used on day to day items. In addition, penicillin is a very useful accidental
In 1928, after the careless mistake of forgetting to clean his dishes, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. The scientific community still celebrates his discovery since it was a major breakthrough in science, especially in the antibiotics and fermentation field. Although his discovery changed various scientific fields and it opened the doors for research in areas not studied or considered relevant before, the actual usefulness of penicillin was truly reached until the large scale production of penicillin was achieved. Before its manufacturing penicillin was considered for researching purposes, but after its manufacturing during World War II, it truly became helpful for humanity because it could finally start performing within its antibiotic spectrum.
They were working on it around World War II, they believe that the medicine had potential. They wanted to find a way to use the medicine on humans to help reduce the bacteria infections in a wound. When they did find a way, it mass-produced and used in the war. The medicine saved many lives. The scientist Florey, Chain, and Fleming were awarded the Nobel Prize. Fleming was alone credited with the penicillin discovery. Even though the discovery of penicillin was a simple accident, but all the series of events that led up to being a very useful medicine.
Antibiotics have played an essential role in the fight against diseases and infections since the 1940’s. Antibiotics are a leading cause for the rise of global average life expectancy in the 20th and 21st century. They have greatly reduced illnesses and deaths due to diseases. With the introductions of antibiotics in the 1940’s, like penicillin into clinical practice, formally deadly illnesses became immediately curable and saved thousands of lives (Yim 2006). Antibiotic use has been beneficial and when prescribed and taken correctly their effects on patients are exceedingly valuable. However, because these drugs have been used so widely and for such a long period of time the bacteria that the antibiotics are designed to kill have adapted,
To begin with, penicillin had two accidental discoveries. “Originally noticed by a French medical student, Ernest Duchesne, in 1896” (Bellis 123). This means penicillin was noticed years before it was actually discovered. Alexander Fleming re-discovered penicillin when “he observed that a plate culture of Staphylococcus had been contaminated by a blue-green mold and that colonies of bacteria adjacent to the mold were being dissolved” (Bellis 123). This is important because penicillin was re-discovered and this time its medical potential was noticed. All in all, the accidental discoveries by Duchesne and Fleming were monumental events that lead to penicillin becoming widely used.
Acacia Dairsow Page one P.5 The Amazing Discovery of Penicillin and Antibiotics! Antibiotics have been around for years, but at the same time only for a short period, as in about 80 years ago Therefore penicillin and antibiotics are one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century Seeing as how Penicillin is one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century, it is now commonly used to cure “common” or “simple” infections, Alexander Fleming was the one to discover Penicillin and its uses, and Penicillin was actually discovered by accident. I’ve used a variety of sources to learn and study about one
A majority of pharmaceutical companies thought that penicillin was to be a cure for any infection. At first no one expected that bacteria would mutate and become stronger. Initially pharmaceutical companies stopped doing research for new antibiotics and concentrated on other areas. As the result,
Penicillin has helped save many lives throughout the years. It has cured things like strep throat, which many people have had in their lives, syphilis, and gonorrhea. It also sparked a new wave of
