Being part of many different activities during high school has helped me balance my academics to strive for a high GPA. Knowing I have priorities encourages me to contribute to my studies by asking for help when attending tutorials or when I do not understand an assignment. I want to continue filling my time with activities that expand my knowledge, leadership, and social skills throughout college. After attending your university, I want to attend medical school to follow my path on pushing myself to become a pediatrician. My favorite activity to lead me to progress towards my goal is volunteer work.I have been working towards obtaining my knowledge in order to know what to expect in this line of work and getting to know the environment a pediatrician …show more content…
When I was a freshman volunteering was expected as service hours, but by my sophomore year my high school would not acknowledge the volunteer hours anymore. Regardless, every year I took it upon myself to sign up for these service facilities because I was eager to know what it would be like in the medical environment. In college, I plan to apply for internships regarding my profession to have more knowledge in order to become a pediatrician. Having volunteered at these medical facilities has taught me to stay dedicated to what I do because not only did I obtain more knowledge about my intended major, I was able to enjoy meeting many people through these organizations and listen to their different life stories. Had I only volunteered for the required high schools hours I would have not created all the amazing friendships and great opportunities I was able to experience. For example, when one day, at the methodist hospital other volunteers and I were making our rounds doing arts and crafts with patients as a part of our services, there was a man who stood out to me. I knocked on his door asking if he was interested in doing arts and crafts, he said
My nature to serve attracts me to the Houston Methodist Summer Teen Volunteer Program. My goals are to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine, and to give back to the community. I would like to learn a lot about how people live by the ways they get hurt or how they deal with being sick. It’s a good study of human behavior because you see people at their highest and lowest extremes of emotion. To further my goal of pursuing a career in medicine, it is important for me to get hands on experience of serving people and executing work in a responsible manner. When a person donates their time, they give hope to someone who needs it. I feel that I will be also benefited because I get to see how my contribution has made a difference.
I am currently volunteering at Atlantic Care Hospital, I have learned a lot ever since I began volunteering from November. During volunteering I meet different people, I talk to them and have learned new things from them. I stay after school very thursday and help tutor for math. I think that I have take a step forward and help others in any way I can . I consider volunteering as gaining experience, learning new things and most importantly helping the
In this regard, the most important part of service to me personally is giving back to the community. Volunteering is my way of providing service to others, it is not only effective, but it’s a good way to meet people, to learn, and to develop social skills. By helping or supporting others, I learned and used new skills in communicating with people and I have gained confidence in myself through different interactions. Providing aid to a family in need or helping out an elementary teacher is necessary, because as people it should be our natural tendencies to support one another, and bring aid when aid is due. For example, at Seven Lakes High school I created the Girls for Krause Club. It was given the name the Girls for Krause club after the Krause Center; a center in Katy that fosters girls who have been taken out of their homes due to sexual harassment, parental mistreatment or mental issues. My first visit to the Krause Center was with my youth group at church. I was so touched by all the girls at the center, and how open they were about their situation. I remember one of the girls telling me thank you, for treating her like “a regular person.” This interaction gave me the incentive to create the Krause club, because I wanted to allow other girls my age to interact with these girls and bring attention to a center that wasn’t well known in my community. Moreover, creating the Krause club has been rewarding and a way to showcase
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” As a child, we have all been asked this question; and as unrealistic children, we all had dreams of being a superhero, princess, cowboy, or astronaut. Later on in life, as time went by, and as we became more knowledgeable, our answers became more serious. Some of us wanted to be teachers, business owners, or a veterinarian. However, I have always wanted to be a doctor, but not just any doctor. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a pediatrician. Now, half way through my junior year in high school, I have started to question the details of this career, and all the hard work it takes to become a part of the medical field.
Between band practice, studying, and officer meetings, I find time to volunteer. Through my 3 clubs, I have completed over 250 hours of volunteer service. Many of my service hours have come from HOSA, where I can obtain clinical experience through volunteering at nursing homes, health fairs, or hospitals. Volunteering has been extremely important to me, and every experience is special. I can remember vividly my first volunteer experience at a soup kitchen where a man began to sing hymns. It was such a shock to me that I could be as much of a blessing to people. That experience inspired me to continue volunteering throughout high
Volunteering gives me the opportunity to be there for someone and to change people’s lives including my own. Volunteering to me is a way of giving back to the community or someone in need of help. For as long as I can remember I have always had the passion for helping people especially children and the aged, thus my interest in nursing. Any opportunity to perform an act of kindness made me happy that at least I could be of help to someone. From taking care of my siblings and cousins, babysitting, helping friends and among others. Of the many goals I have in life the most important one is to provide help to those in need through my commitment of service. I volunteered at a daycare school closer to me and
One of my extracurricular activities was volunteering at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA during the 10th and 11th grade. I gave patients food and water, answered call bells, and comforted and transported patients. I volunteered for 4 hours a week, 15 weeks a year, and had a total of 120 volunteer hours. Volunteering at the hospital showed me what it takes to care for the sick and made me realize that I want to go into the medical
I volunteered taking care of children, at a recreation center, where parents couldn’t afford expensive day care. I spent time at feral cat clinics to help reduce the overpopulation of cats. I began volunteering at three square and placing applications to help hospitals and soon plan to spend time with soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Through my community service I learned to communicate better, take on leadership roles and earned life changing opportunities along the way. Through volunteering I grew as a person, I matured, learned responsibility, and realized what I wanted to do with my life.
I currently do not volunteer at a particular place regularly, but volunteer at various places as much as I can and have accumulated over 250 hours while in high school. By volunteering, students get an opportunity to serve the community and provide help to those who need it, yet not expecting anything in return. For me, I have learned the value of hard work, especially when it makes other peoples’ lives better while volunteering.
It is a fact that we have a longer life expectancy than ever before. This has been achieved through years of thorough research, technological development, and most importantly resilient individuals. Doctors are constantly faced with different enigmas with no right or wrong answer. What first attracted me toward medicine was the desire to help and support, in particular, disadvantaged people. Coming from a country with an underdeveloped health care system has made me realised the impact it has on people’s life.
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because
Volunteering to me didn’t seem very pleasing at first. My focus was simply getting the hours I needed to make my resume look good. However, my perspective changed when I began getting involved with the various activities of the community. I enjoyed helping and serving others, seeing the positive impact I made gave me a great satisfaction. Thankfully, I have volunteered in many areas, however there are a few organizations in which I have invested more time and effort.

In my freshman year, I went to a primary school to help the kids with their homework for 7 hours in total. I enjoyed the time I spent with them, since I felt happy when I saw them happy after figuring out the problems together. The most difficult part is that I had to earn their trusts first, so that they would be willing to ask me questions. But after I got familiar with them, the problem was solved, and we had wonderful time. I went there for two hours last year as well. In order to have diverse experience, I went somewhere else for the service and met different people. During my sophomore year, my host family introduced me to a person she knew, and I did house cleaning in her house for about 6 hours. From that experience, I learned what the lives of people in other neighborhood are like. In the second semester, I did my service in a bubble tea store for 8 hours. I knew the host there before, and I was willing to help him if he needed. I swept the floor and arranged some of the materials for him, and watched how he run his business. I did the rest part of the service in school when it has activities such as open house, for that I belong to the school community and I think I should help. Generally speaking, I enjoy these service inasmuch as they all enrich my personal experience in certain way and I feel satisfied when helping
Where do the young go to when they are injured? Who do they depend on to help them heal? A pediatric.
