People of any country, as citizens, have certain civil rights as well as responsibilities, and the United States of America is no exception. The US Constitution defines the framework. It is the supreme law of the land that defines how Federal Government works.
Shortly after the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, a law was enacted by the US government, commonly known as The Patriot Act. This law expanded the power of government allowing them to obtain the personal information of any person of that may be a threat in hopes of preventing any future terrorist act. As an example; “It's been illegal to interfere with airline crews since JFK was president. The Patriot Act made it a crime to attempt, or conspire to, do what the law already barred.” You can’t leave out the highly criticized "libraries" provision. For decades, in every day criminal cases, grand juries have been able to subpoena various kinds of documents from banks and other establishments. The Patriot Act utilizes common sense adjustments and modernizes preexisting laws. In the past, law enforcement officials had to jump through hoops in order to get a new warrant each time a target traveled from one judicial district to another. The Patriot Act eliminates this stress.
On the other hand, opponents claim that The Patriot Act violates Constitutional rights; specifically the 1st and 4th amendments. They claim the government may over use the power given, and have brought to light several examples. One such incident is the case of a prominent Muslim scholar who has been barred from the United States. This scholar was barred to enter US after The Patriot Act was enacted.
