When the police stopped at Michael’s house, they had asked the McKenzie family if they owned any firearms. Michael’s dad responded with a yes and was asked if he can show them. On Saturday, December 1, 1900, a man named John Hossack was killed in his sleep with a hatchet by his wife, Margaret Hossack. The story told by Margaret was that she had heard what sounded like two boards banging together and by that time the attacker had fled and she didn’t catch a glimpse of him. The next thing she saw was her extremely wounded husband, John, who had a five-inch cut into his head and a fractured skull. A doctor, who came and examined John, and said there was no hope and John died the next morning. As an investigation started, a burglary was thought of as the first motive but the idea flawed because nothing was stolen so the idea was quickly abandoned. In the 4 days between the murder and the funeral, the police talked to
A second Kenneth Cole suitcase was found on May 11 by a girl picking up litter on the Fisherman Island Bird sanctuary. Upon opening the suitcase, the girl saw a human shoulder and was overwhelmed by the smell of rotting flesh. Once again, Virginia Beach Homicide Detectives Dr. Gray and Beth Dunton arrived on scene. The suitcase was photographed then the body parts taken for an autopsy. Inside this suitcase Dr. Wendy Gunther found the head, torso and arms of a white male inside black plastic trash bags just like the first suitcase. The man had been shot three times: once in the head, once in the back and once in the abdomen. These gunshot wounds were designated as the cause of death. Gunther also documented that the victim’s head was covered by a bloodstained blanket that read “property of HCSC.” While performing the autopsy, Dr. Gunther found a bullet in the waist area that he saved to be tested for ballistics at a later date (Glatt, 2008).
The Stephens were very inviting and let the officers come inside, and even offered them food as they searched the house. As the officers were completing their search of the house, the found an old, rusted axe sitting against the garage door. The Stephens used their garage, so the axe had to be put there after the last time they used the garage, as it would be knocked over if the garage was opened. They also noticed that around the edge of the blade, there was no rust, as if someone had scraped the rust off, or had cleaned the axe. It seemed to be the obvious murder weapon, but the officers wanted to investigate further before they made any accusations or arrests.

They could learn, if the victim was one from the triple murders or not, because there would be a gunshot wound and subsequent damage, in the skull, that would still be present after twenty
Mary Maloney is a sympathetic character because she covered up Patrick’s death to protect her baby. All of the tricking and deceiving she did was to save her unborn child from what could have happened as a result of her actions. She did not know what the laws were for murdered with unborn babies and she did not want to find out. Dahl states, “ What were the laws about murderers with unborn children? Did they kill both-mother and child? Or did they wait until the tenth month? Mary Maloney didn’t know. And she certainly wasn’t prepared to take a chance” (3). Mary’s number one concern was for her baby. She did not want
Mrs. Maloney gets away with the murder in the end. This caused by a revolting ending in which he police detectives eat the leg of lamb that was used to kill Patrick. The writer creates an unbelievable ending by making the story, up to the murder, set in a very normal family house. It is not somewhere you would associate with a morbid killing. The writer builds up an impression that the marriage may not be as good as it could be, and both were under strain not to release the tension onto each other.
Patrick, a month ago, wanted a sword to killed Maraget. Now, Patrick is asking for a gun to kill Margaret. Patrick killed a family pet, according to Mary with CASS Court Appointed Children
The doc says his skull was smashed all to pieces just like from a sledgehammer. That 's why it ought to be easy to find… Whoever done it, they 're not going to be carrying a thing like that around with them longer than they need...Personally, I think it 's right here on the premises. Probably right under our very noses...And in the other room, Mary Maloney began to giggle.” This is careless of her for not owning up to what she did and instead laughing at it.
To start off, it can be clearly seen from the short story that Mary Maloney is guilty. She makes a conscious effort to make sure she reacts as if she has not committed this crime in the text “Lamb to Slaughter” she says, “If she finds anything unusual or terrible when she got home, then it would be a shock and she would have to react with grief and horror.”(Dahl 383) By her stating this it shows that she knows she is guilty and that she killed her husband. The main reason I chose this quote was that it shows that she knows what she is talking about and that she has to act like this otherwise she will be caught and
