Patrick Flanagan is a famous Oklahoman born in Oklahoma City because he was a child prodigy, is an important scientist with over 300 patents, and was the inventor of the neurophone when he was fourteen years old. “Gillis Patrick Flanagan was born on the eleventh of October in Oklahoma City, USA [in 1944” (“- GIE -”). Even in his early life, Flanagan was extremely intelligent and was considered a prodigy. As an infant, he was strongly interested in research. “As a child Flanagan was reportedly plagued by a recurring dream in which he was an adult, flying a small aeroplane which suffered engine failure” (“Patrick Flanagan”). In this dream, he landed on an island with a UFO full of “beautiful blond beings.” The creatures told Flanagan that if …show more content…
Patrick Flanagan may be regarded as one of the most important scientists of the last 45 years” (“- GIE -”). He has made many discoveries and inventions in three different scientific fields. What began Flanagan’s career was likely his guided missile detector that was sold to the U.S. Military. “Flanagan . . . was employed by a Think Tank at The Pentagon, and later as a consultant to the NSA, CIA, NASA, Tufts University, the Office of Naval Research, and the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for the Department of Unconventional Weapons and Warfare” (“Patrick Flanagan”). Flanagan has invented and developed many technologies in his career. For the most part, Patrick Flanagan is a scientist. “At 14 he developed the Neurophone, an electronic device that transmits sound from the skin directly to the brain, through the nervous system, not the bones or ears” (“The Flanagan Follies”). He was unable to obtain a patent for this invention until 1968, which was ten years after he invented it. Flanagan finally obtained patent number 3,393,279 when the neurophone allowed a deaf employee to hear at the patent office. “The man was totally nerve deaf in one ear and almost toally deaf in the other . . . Patrick . . . [after showing the man how to use the neurophone] played a record of the famous Maria Callas singing . . . as he [the deaf man] was able to hear the undistorted beauty of her voice, the tears of joy streamed down his face” (“Patrick Flanagan’s Neurophone”). …show more content…
Beginning as a child prodigy, Flanagan has made numerous contributions to the realm of science. I chose to research about Gillis Patrick Flanagan because he is a scientist from Oklahoma who has changed the way scientists think with the invention of his neurophone that allowed people to hear without ears. His research has changed scientific
Many people say that you must have plenty in common with someone in order to be their best friend. However, in the novel Finnie Walsh by Steven Galloway, this is not the case. Finnie and Paul have a few things in common, such as their passion for hockey, but they were (for the most part) complete opposites. Paul's family has a struggle with money throughout the duration of the novel, while Finnie's family is quite wealthy. After Mr.Woodward's accident, Finnie is struggling to escape the guilt; meanwhile, Paul is able to let it go. Finnie is a risk taker along with being very outgoing; but on the contrary, Paul is very timid and takes everything in stride. Paul and Finnie have few things in common;
Who is Willie Lynch? Willie Lynch is a British slave owner in the West Indies, who came to United States to advise American slave owners how to keep their slaves restrained. Lynching or the Lynch Law is actually attributed to him. Lynching initially referred to the hanging of the black man. In his letter he stated more than several characteristics to differing black slaves. The four characteristics that I have chosen is age, sex, hair texture and color or shade of the skin.

could you imagine a world where you aren’t able to hear a sound? Well, for hundreds of thousands of people this is unfortunately their reality. However, with advances in technology people are now able to hear for the first time and let me tell you, that’s certainly music to my ears. A new piece of medical technology known as the cochlear implant is a life changer that helps the deaf to live a normal life.
At times when illegal immigration has been the subject of much debate in the United States, there have been many conspiracy theorist claiming that there have been many sightings of migrants from outside this planet. These sighting of alien and unidentified flying object (UFO) has been topic of discussion for relatively long time now. This video is 1991 interview with Amaury Rivera Toro, one of the alien witnesses, who claims to have been abducted by aliens in Puerto Rico on May 14, 1988. Throughout the interview, Rivera tells his tale of abduction, encounter with the aliens, who were human like, and presents the picture of the UFO. The video is then followed by an interview with a conspiracy theorist who has been working on the similar cases and supports the claims made by Rivera.

Jacques Cousteau was a man of all trades. He was a photographer, inventor of diving devices, undersea explorer, soldier, writer, oceanographer, and documentary host (“Jacques Cousteau biography,” n.d.). He developed the first ever trademarked SCUBA device titled the Aqua-Lung (“Invention; the Aqua lung,” n.d.). SCUBA is an acronym for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Cousteau made his grand entrance June 11, 1910, in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, France. Cousteau was a sickly child, who the doctors told not to participate in any strenuous activity. He learned to swim at age 4 and soon developed a love for the sea as well as developing a mechanical aptitude (“Jacques Cousteau biography - life,” n.d.).

Sounds and speech are captured by a microphone and sent to the external speech processor. The processor then translates the sounds into electrical signals, which are then sent to the transmitting coil. These codes travel up a cable to the headpiece and are transmitted across the skin through radio waves to the implanted cochlea electrodes. The electrodes’ signals then stimulate the auditory nerve fibres to send information to the brain where it is interpreted as meaningful sound.
Heffernan also illustrates how headphones work, stating, “when an audio current passes through the device’s voice coil, it creates an alternating magnetic field that moves a stiff, light diaphragm” (Heffernan, 2011). Describing the history of headphones and how the technology works portrays Heffernan as a reasonable author with a deep understanding of her subject matter, which earns the trust and respect of the audience.
Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish inventor that had made things that have to do with hearing because his mother and wife were both deaf and his father taught elocution to the deaf, he was very interested in the science of sound, so Bell had gone to various schools
Some scientists and psychologists specialized in the study of past-life memories in children, and carefully studied the use of interviews with witnesses as the main method of researching these cases, deny the true nature of such evidences. Taking into account the psychological explanation of this problem, it is possible to summarize that many of the persons who “witnesses” UFO live in the world of dreams and have some psychological problems, and the desire to be an extraordinary one push them to believe that witnessed UFO (Thompson, 2005).
