Pathos is one of the three types of methods that can be used when trying to pursue someone. Pathos is a Greek word that means suffering or experience. Pathos is when emotions are used as a method to pursued your audience in a presentation or argument. There are different techniques to use if you wanted to pathos into your argument. When using pathos in persuasion, word choice is crucial and needs to specific because the connotations of the words you use will affect the audiences’ connection with your argument. Pathos is where by appealing to the audiences emotions, the speaker or writer can make the audience feel sorrow, shame, sympathy, embarrassment, anger excitement and/or fear. The third is ethos. This is where the overall appeal of the speaker or writer himself or herself; it is important that this person have impressive credentials and be credible/valid, possesses a notable knowledge of the subject, and/or appear to be a likeable and moral person. Pathos is an emotionally manipulative tactic used to prey on the emotions of ignorant. It’s actually very easy to get caught up in the spell if emotions. With humans naturally being emotional creature the effectiveness of this fallacy isn't exactly surprising. I think it is very very VERY important to ALWAYS question your emotional reactions and whether it's rational to be feeling this way or not.

The next element in the rhetorical situation is pathos. Pathos is defined as connecting the author and the reader using emotion. Pathos is more reader dependent than the other elements. Pathos helps the writer know to know their audience and who they are intending to write for. Connecting to the audience using pathos is a strong way to get the support of the reader. The audience needs to be moved by what they’re reading. Without pathos, the writer won’t be able to properly connect to their audience.
Pathos is when you evoke emotions. That is when you try to get someone to feel sympathy so they will do something for you. An example of this is when they play those animal shelter commercials that are all sad on tv and you feel compelled to adopt a pet or donate money to the shelter. The last one in persuasion is logos and that is using reason and logic. People will do something if it is logical.
