Pat Tillman had a stronger work ethic than most everyone. Tillman showed his hard work in every aspect of his life on the fiend and off he had a 3.5 or higher GPA all threw high school. When Pat was a 8th grader he tried out for the varsity baseball team, he didn't make the team also he decided to mainly focus on football. Everyone told him that he wasn't big enough or good enough to play football but he pushed himself and worked harder than everyone to get where he wanted to go. In Pats senior year of college he had NFL scouts come to one of the practices and he worked so hard that he would let the scouts leave until he completed the drill to the best of his abilities. Pat was the 226th pick of the draft and he proved to be the best safely
Pat Tillman carried many characteristics that made him who he was, but his selflessness was the most apparent characteristic about him. Tillman’s selflessness become apparent when he threw away a multi-million dollar contract in the NFL just to serve for his country in the army. This type of commitment for the country is hard to find in other people. Another example that shows Tillman’s selflessness was after a football game when he was asked what his thoughts were on the game. He replied saying, “I didn’t play particularly well. The team played great.” This shows how Tillman really wasn’t playing for the fame, or publicity, and credited his team before himself. One last example of how selfless Tillman was selfless was when he never took interviews with news reporters after he made the decision to join the army. This shows how Tillman never wanted any attention after his decision, and just
While at the University of Mississippi, Cooper was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. This ended cooper's dreams of playing football and had a big impact on the family. Peyton used this to ensure he’d make it for his brother. He eventually did and is now one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. This determination and activity in the communities around him is why Peyton Manning is an amazing role model and someone to look up to. This is why I picked him as my second person. Peyton is a prime example of what a leader and a good person looks
Emmit Smith won many awards. He got Rookie of the year in the NFL in 1990. He got best NFL
When people talk about the greatest of football, Peyton Manning and Joe Montana are the first names that come to mind. Although Manning is still playing American football, he and Montana are huge role models to many young quarterbacks. For example, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning’s younger brother, even Cam Newton, who is one of the newest quarterbacks in the NFL, have been affected by either Manning or Montana. Both athletes have had a great career in NCAA and NFL, leaving their mask and setting the bar very high for other players. However, every kingdom has only one king. Many will say that Montana is the better of the two quarterbacks; however, Peyton Manning is the better quarterback because of many statistical reasons.
De’Shaun Buzzwell was born on October 13th, 1989 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was always really fast and had a lot of energy. Because of this, his mother put him into sports. He played baseball, football, and basketball. His favorite sport was football. He played on an elite traveling football team that he was the star of. His dream was to play college football for Oklahoma State University. He worked day in and day out. Because of his hard work and effort, not only did he get his dream of playing for OSU, it also gave him a first round draft pick with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That didn’t automatically mean that he was the best player on the team though. He had a very rough first season, only playing in five games and having the worst average rushing yards for rookie W.R., and only scored one touchdown in the season In the off-season, he didn’t expect to get anywhere. But, his friend worked with him every day in the off-season. They worked every other day on speed, agility, endurance, and strength. He never quit. His hard work in the off-season paid off, as he played in fourteen out of his team’s sixteen games for the season and averaged the best rushing yards for a wide receiver for the entire NFL, and had eight touchdowns. The
Once he was drafted, Hernandez quickly proved his professionalism as a football player. He had 45 catches in his first year, which was a Patriots team record for the tight ends, helping the team secure the AFC Championship. In his second year, playing alongside with Rob Gronkowski, he led the Patriots offense with 24 touchdowns and 2,237 receiving yards, helping secure the team’s position in the Super Bowl XLVI. Then in his third year he was injured, but was still positioned to become a leader of the team, which was recognized by the Patriots with his sizable signing bonus (A&E, 2015).
Ray Lewis was named one of the players in NFL history, although life for has not been a silver platter. Throughout his upbringing, he grew up in a single parent home with five siblings. His dad was in and out his life, abusing and disrespecting his mother. Later his family would suffer with financial problems. This lead to his family being split, he was forced to move with his grandparents. Throughout his circumstances, he could have used all of these things as excuses to quit. Instead he lights a fire in his in his heart and uses
The most outstanding quality about Pat Tillman, was his strong work ethic. He never gave up. If he felt exhausted at the end of a football practice, that didn’t matter to him. After a hard practice, most kids would go straight home and take a cold shower; but not ole Tillman. He would stay after practice and keep practicing or run an extra mile, just to push himself to becoming a better athlete. He also proved this through the way he set his goals. He told himself he was
He even has awards named after him. When Payton was enrolled at Jackson State he won multiple awards like Black College Player of the year award two times. He was also selected to the All-American team his freshman year. His senior season he finished 3rd in the heisman voting (best college football player in division 1). Payton has other significant accomplishments like in 1977 when he won MVP of the NFL. Payton was also inducted to the pro football Hall of Fame in 1993. “The Walter Payton Award, established in 1987 is annually presented to the most helpful person in their community and one who helps make the biggest changes in the world only for NFL players”-(Britannica). Walter Payton is also credited for awakening national interest in organ donations. Payton has done a lot of things before he passed from fighting segregation to helping the fight against liver disease. Walter Payton has always tried to make a change in the world and he did. Payton held rallies for segregation, he put on events to help raise donations for organ donations. Even though he is gone now his family is still trying to make a difference by putting on donations and events as
Pat Tillman is remembered as a man with many amazing qualities, but I think the one he remembered most for is his determination. He showed this even when he was just a high school freshman because after he was cut from the team, he said he would play and he didn’t want to just play baseball and he didn’t. He ended up playing on the varsity football team for his high school. He also showed that he was determined when anyone said he couldn’t do something or he shouldn’t do something, he did it anyway and continued to do what he wanted. Tillman, even playing football, focussed on his education because he wanted to graduate and ended up
Tom Brady was able to go from being an underdog to a champion, become the greatest quarterback to ever live, get past allegations, and become an influence in the 21st century. He was unwanted his whole life, but made his way up to the NFL. Everyone was skeptical of his abilities and if he really cheated, but through all of that he persevered. This is why Tom Brady was an influence in the 21st century not just for athletes but
In the beginning, he was a high school student who was failing in his grade, but then the high school coach talked to him and said, “What do you want to do with your life?” From that day on he got and kept his grades up and played football for his high school career, even though he was a stellar player his grades weren't the best, therefore, none of the colleges wanted
Having a lot of prior knowledge about football helps you understand the history of some things. John David Crow is the first person that comes to mind when I think about the Heisman Trophy. Although Crow was a native from Marion in North Louisiana, he found his way west to Springhill. Here at Springhill High School, he dominated throughout his career setting many records and accomplishing multiple goals. Crow and his fellow teammates also won a state championship, which was one of two that Springhill holds in football. With a dominating high school campaign such as Crow had, there was no doubt college coaches from all over the country was trying to sign him up at their university. Being a smart thinker of football, he decided to go play for the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant at Texas A&M. To be one of the best, you have to play for one of the best so you can get in a great system to be successful. John David Crow’s senior season at Texas A&M was one that no one could ever forget. He was superman of the team because he did almost everything. He ran the ball, caught the ball, caught interceptions for opposing offenses, and tackled the opponents. After the season, Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant stated, “If John David Crow does not win the Heisman Trophy, they ought to stop giving it.”() He was the first aggie to win it and was also the only one of Bryant’s players to win it. It does not matter where you are from, anyone can accomplish the goal of winning the Heisman Trophy with hard work and
As a lifelong fan of Notre Dame, his dream had come true, he was going to be able to play football at The University of Notre Dame. This was only the start of an impressive career, but with that being said, it took twists and turns that no one had ever expected.(Sports Stars) Randy Moss changed the game of football due to the fact that he changed the landscape for rookies, became a notorious and influential NFL player, and developed a new “character” in the NFL.
Before I can argue that Tom Brady is the greatest of all time, I am going to summarize the criteria of what makes an athlete the greatest of all time. However, there is a possible problem with the criteria. Readers may think that this criterion is assembled to prove that Tom Brady is the greatest of all time. This is not the case though; this criterion has been complied of multiple sources of what they believe is the greatest athlete of all time. These sources are from all different places they are not all from New England. The criteria are made up of multiple characteristics required to be labeled the greatest of all time. Drive is a necessity to be the greatest of all time. Now this sounds very clichéd however, I cannot be over looked. The athlete cannot be satisfied with the day of work they have to have the
