Another school which will be discussed that is present at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom a neo-marxist approach on things is taken, even though its distinct in some criterias but still it does also on some of the Chicago School studies for urban sociology, but this perspective of subcultures is born focusing on the societal conditions of 1960s and 1970s Britain. Reflecting on the position of working-class youth functioning to resolve the ever growing contradiction and generation gap between parents culture and the modern culture dominated by media and commerce where are young are trying to divert from their ancestors whom they see as powerless and going through the same routine. This latent function of subculture is the expression and resolving the contradiction hidden in parent culture where Mods, Parkas, Skinheads represent an attempt to retrieve some of the socially cohesive elements destroyed in parents culture. The way of expression as mentioned before is the symbolic subsystem that are the plastic form like clothes and music which are not directly produced by the subculture but selected as a theme, infrastructural that is more resistant to innovation but represent their distinctiveness. Analysis of subcultures is based on three levels, first is the historical analysis where an isolation of the problem of a particular class fraction that is the working class. The second, semiotic analysis of subsystems where the group transforms from one structural moment to another and the third is phenomenological that is how they are lived out by their supporters
