Identity is a group of characteristics, data or information that belongs exactly to one person or a group of people and that make it possible to establish differences between them. The consciousness that people have about themselves is part of their identity as well as what makes them unique. According to psychologists, identity is a consistent definition of one’s self as a unique individual, in terms of role, attitudes, beliefs and aspirations. Identity tries to define who people are, what they are, where they go or what they want to be or to do. Identity could depend on self-knowledge, self-esteem, or the ability of individuals to achieve their goals. Through self-analysis people can define who they are and who the people around them
As we grow up we must discover who we want to be and how we want to live, but the only way to do that is to discover our identity. Identity is the qualities, beliefs, personality, and expressions that make a person. The process of identity can be creative or destructive. Throughout literature, authors warn us that society has a damaging impact on our identities.
Identity is a complex topic. To explain someone’s identity is to try to put a person’s whole being into words. It is similar to how when an author describes a character, readers have their own interpretation of what that description means. Identity is challenging to define due to everyone's different ideas of what identity means and a person can not perfectly describe someone with words. A common claim about identity is that you can be whoever you want, suggesting that people are in control of their identity.
Identity is a complicated and unclear concept that has no one definition. Nonetheless, identity plays a key role in the formation of our “true” selves. Identity is free formed, ever-changing and wildly different to diverse people. Making sense of oneself- who one is, was and may become, is the basic component of identity. When defining one 's identity there is no singular place to start. Identities are wide varieties of traits, characteristics, social roles and relationships that define who we are. It orients us and provides us with tools that will in turn shape and mold ourselves for as long as we live.

Identity is one’s morals, personality, and behavior. Society makes one act a certain way to make them try to fit in. Society plays a major role in shaping identity in different ways such as unemployment, racism, and poverty. In addition identity is influenced by the environment you live in or the people you hang around.
Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding environment. At certain points of time, some people search for their identity in order to understand their existence in life. In regards, identity is shaped into an individual through the social trials of life that involve family and peers, the religious beliefs by the practice of certain faiths, and cultural awareness through family history and traditions. These are what shape the identity of an individual.
Identity can be defined as 'how I see myself and how others see me. ' (Questioning Identity. 2000. p7) An identity involves a sense of belonging, an individual chooses to identify with a group and actively engages in doing so, showing agency. This sense of belonging involves being the 'same ' and recognising that others are 'different '. An individual can have multiple identities e.g. gender, supporting a football team; all of these identities make up the individual. Structures such as gender and class, influence, encourage or prevent individuals from identifying with certain groups and therefore shaping the identity.
Identity, as defined by Merriam-Webster, are “the qualities and beliefs...that make a particular person or group different from others.”(“Identity”) Most people make out their identity though many identities. People somewhat “crowd-source” the traits and qualities that become tied to them after early years of life and influences the way they behave. Until such a point, we are amorphous in how we perceive ourselves. A person is so influenced by the people they surround themselves with that any kind of identity they are born with becomes obsolete.
Life is very complex and often hard to define. However, this challenge does not stop people from trying to sum up the meaning of life in one word. In Paper Towns by John Green, the three metaphors the strings, the grass, and the vessel are used throughout the book to chronicle the protagonist’s, Quentin, experiences. The novel revolves around Quentin Jacobsen, a high school senior. When his former best friend and long time crush, Margo Roth Spiegelman, comes back into his life and then suddenly disappears, Q attempts to piece together the clues he believes Margo left behind for him. Each of these three metaphors represent what Q is feeling and allow him to view life from different perspectives. As
The Way How People Changes One’s Identity There are many different aspects on what identity is and how we create it. Some will say that it is the distinct personality of an individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding environment. At certain points of time, some people search for their identity in order to understand their existence in life.
What is identity? Identity is like music, it’s all entertainment but it’s not all the same kind of music, there all different from each other. You are not born with you identity you have to make chooses, what you do in you life, how you act around other people. I believe you make your identity after you are born.
The Oxford English dictionary, describes identity as “being who, or what a person is, and the characteristics determining who, or what that person is.” But, identity is much more complex than its dictionary definition. Although the word “identity” is used correctly in everyday discourse, its meaning is not captured by the definition.
