"For me, it 's not even that I 'm a feminist. I 'm for anybody. I 'm for everybody, for everything. I don 't care what you want to do in your life, or whom you want to be with, which you want to love, who you want to look like. I’m a feminist in the way that I’m really empowering to women.”
In this address Clinton uses a combination of all three to try to convince people of her being the right candidate for the job. Clinton’s rhetoric depends largely on the fact of her being relatable in comparison to the millionaire Trump who makes up the much envied American and criticized elite.

- “The main issues we face today were prefaced by the work done by the previous waves of women. We are still working to vanquish the disparities in male and female pay and the reproductive rights of women. We are working to end violence against women in our nation as well as others. We are still fighting for acceptance and a true understanding of the term ‘feminism,’ it should be noted that we have made tremendous progress since the first
Furthermore, She provides a strong tone that evaluates the potential of a woman. She presents her speech with facts and with confidence and passion. Her tone is trying to motivate young women to act up and take action. Along the way in her speech she makes up a sarcastic tone by claiming that “[women]do not have executive ability, orderly minds, stability, leadership skills, and they are too emotional”(Chisholm, 149). The use of this tone provides affirmation that conveys young women to feel capable of doing anything that men can do. These words don’t define the potential of women nor their abilities. Women are strong, women can take anything, women are smart, women have leadership. Just like Chisholm, women have a voice to speak up and advocate for a change. Throughout her positives tones, she also presents an emotional appeal to the youth who are going to college and are struggling. In reality, some women don’t get the same opportunity as others.“...when a young woman graduates from college…she is likely to have a frustrating and demanding experience ahead of her”(Chisholm, 149). Women face challenges with their eligibility when applying to jobs. Looking for a job is not as easy for women, it takes time and persistence. Unlike men, who are seen as
Hillary Clinton has tried her hardest to become an internet sensation among the youth by paying for Buzzfeed articles, making Star Wars references during debates, and doing the “Nae Nae” on live TV. Rather than rallying around her, her target audience has actually ridiculed her for it. In her quest to become a meme, Clinton's campaign neglected the fact that those who are capable of voting are over 18 and would rather hear about her policy than how much she loves Beyonce. She failed at identifying with her audience and showing them that she understands their needs and expectations.
Toni Morrison, the infamous novelist, took the stand as a concerned citizen of the United States when she wrote a public letter to presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama. At the time, the country was divided with contrasting opinions on George W. Bush, which seemed to block the focus of the candidates’ elections. Morrison mentioned this issue as one of her reasons for writing the endorsement, when she wrote, “One reason is it may help gather other supporters; another is that this one one of those singular moments that nations ignore at their peril.” Morrison addressed her personal thoughts on the two presidential candidates, and gave reasoning as for why she chose Barack Obama rather than Hillary Clinton. Overall, Morrison created a very concerned tone regarding the United States and its political future, using phrases such as “multiple crisis facing us” and “peril” to describe the issues that faced the country. Furthermore, when describing Obama’s political future, the tone was much more optimistic and light. Morrison used phrases such as
Combined with her years of participation in the political process, including working on various Presidential campaigns, being a former First Lady for eight years, being exceptionally involved with the functioning of the Presidency and having served as the Senator from New York as well as Secretary of State, her knowledge and paramount experience tower over the other potential contenders for the office of the President. One thing is certain, the upcoming Presidential election will be one of the more fascinating political contests in recent Presidential
Hillary Clinton is a political veteran of the Democratic Party who first had her start in national politics as a First Lady, using her power as a first lady to enact several policies such as the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which created unprecedented protections to foster children. It is no surprise that Hillary has kept herself involve in the political scene by joining the United Nations as an ambassador and most recently as a secretary of state under President Obama for two terms. Today she is taking it step further and has her sights on the White House to continue the works she had during her time as a secretary of state during a time where racial tensions have run feverishly high within the African American community. Her ads have been aimed at quenching the fires that burn the citizens of the United States and bringing order to a society on the verge of chaos. Recently, she has created various ads during her candidacy to show her resolve on these matters. The ad “Stand” attempts to persuade views to vote for Hillary Clinton by appealing obviously to the value of justice and more subtly to the values of hope and unity.
The speaker is Sojourner Truth. Sojourner Truth was a former slave that later in life preached and also supported women's suffrage and abolitionist movements. This year the presidential elections will take place at the beginning of November, and there are lots of people wondering how this is going to end. Some candidates for these presidential elections may not have been the best choice for their respective parties, but the one that really shouts, “I should not be here” is Mr. Donald Trump. His personality and actions are not the correct ones for a president because of his temper and comments against other cultures. On the other hand, we have Mrs. Clinton who is a more competent candidate; she has more experience on the field of politics than Mr. Trump who has none at all, which are the reasons why she is a better choice as a candidate and as president of the U.S.
Arguing her views in “The Glass Ceiling in Politics needs to be Shattered”, was Marie Cocco stating how women’s roles in politics still need a major improvement. Bernard mainly concentrates on Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin’s role in the 2008 election, while Cocco focuses primarily on the role women play in politics in general. Bernard suggests that women are moving up in the political world when she states “There are no positions that women cannot fill” (Has Been Shattered”, par 3.). On the other hand, Cocco is suggesting that women are in the same spot as they have for years when she states “…they both banged their heads—hard—against the ceiling. Both were bruised. So was the goal of advancing women in political leadership” (Needs to be Shattered”, par. 2). Both Bernard and Cocco feel strongly about their views on the glass ceiling. However, despite their opposing views, common ground is able to be found. Both women strongly agree that it is time for women to step up and be treated
Throughout the 2016 presidential election, feminism and its influence on politics was a driving force for men and women alike in support of the first female presidential nomination Hillary Clinton; however, the election of Donald Trump has inspired a new wave of feminism in response to the administration of those in office, particularly seen during the International Women’s March.
Feminism has been an explored topic since the early 19th century and has remained an important conversation in our society still today. At the time when Roxanne Gay was approaching this topic within her collection of essays, there were some major feminist triumphs occurring. 2014 was a time where Rape on college campuses was finally announced a national issue. In 2003, there were just 74 women in congress, yet 2014 was the year where we finally hit 100 women in congress. With all of the support and the successes of feminism at this time, it was crucial that Roxanne Gay discuss the way in which she fully supports the feminist movement, while staying true to herself. In "Why I am a Bad Feminist," Roxane Gay colloquially portrays how she imperfectly performs feminism in her daily life and how to deal with the constant struggle of trying to achieve "ideal" feminism while also being human. Gay touches on the fact that as a society, we place a high degree of pressure on women to be perfect. Whether the perfection lies in their looks, actions, or personality traits, women are constantly held to unrealistic standards. Gay effortlessly sheds light on this situation using rhetorical strategies to describe how she does not meet these standards. These rhetorical strategies include imagery, to create a picture of what she is saying, as well as a strong use of ethos and pathos, revealed throughout her essay. Instead of being ashamed she shares how to embrace her inconsistencies while still trying to be a feminist and role model.
