At Portland State University, my goal is to achieve a Bachelors of Science degree. My plan is to major in Computer Science. I am very interested in computer programming, and am currently learning python, as well as taking a computer science course at my school. Jobs related to computer science are also in high demand, which makes me excited for the future. Recently I visited PSU for the first time when I went to preview day, and what I saw inspired me to want to come here. The beautiful campus, the clubs, and the way PSU weaves itself into the community were just a few ways I was awed. The diversity I witnessed going through each building was inspiring. The different interests and talents of others was fascinating, and made me want to join …show more content…
Going to a four year college, and getting a degree is a big commitment to have, however I have always been one to continue through with my plans. I have always loved running, as I have been on the varsity cross country and track for three years so far. During the season, we had practice monday through friday, with races on saturdays. Going everyday was a big commitment, but I was prepared to do it for something I loved. During track most meets went on for hours, and I stayed at the event until the end, which was usually around ten at night, supporting the team and helping pack up the bus. Being apart of the team is a huge undertaking, but I was recognized of my work at the end of every season when I was given a varsity letter. Additionally, I’ve been working at Five Guys for almost a year now, even during cross country and track. Working a real job has given me experience you can’t find anywhere else. How to cooperate with others during a rush, and working fast to keep up with demand are just a few things I have been learning. As well as being able to cope with having various
One of my long-time goals has been to run a marathon. I have run cross country and track throughout my high school career, and not long ago, I decided that I am going to run a marathon this spring. I had always thought running a marathon would be something that I would do after I graduated college and was quite a bit older. However, a few weeks ago I decided now would be a better time than ever; I was coming off my last cross country season and wanted to continue running. Therefore, I talked to two of my cross country teammates, and we recently started training for a marathon together. After putting in a great amount of effort to run countless miles, it makes other tasks seem much more doable. Training for a marathon helps me manage my time better and strive to do my best in school. In college, I also want to keep running and run even more marathons. I know that running will help keep me disciplined and definitely correlates to how well I will do in school and in my future
I am very excited to be applying to ECU for many reasons. From the pleasant campus atmosphere to the comprehensive majors, I believe I will be greatly benefited by the experience the university offers.
Coming from a small town on the east coast, I would have never expected to fall in love with such a large and diverse college like the University of Michigan. The upbeat atmosphere of Ann Arbor alone was enticing enough before I even saw the actual campus. Upon visiting, I quickly realized the University of Michigan was a place I would not mind spending my next couple of years. From the countless students all around to the wide variety of shops in town, Ann Arbor seemed like a lively and exciting place to spend my college experience. While walking through the campus, I was continuously amazed by the large intricate buildings surrounding me. Some of my favorites included the Law Library, the College of LSA and the Michigan Union. While I do not plan on attending it, the Ross School of Business was also an incredible
Upon graduating high school a large amount of my fellow students were well aware of which university and which degree they would wish to study and I was not one of those students. Up until recently I was also concerned that I would not be able to find a university that I would truly appreciate. Having toured multiple campuses throughout Texas and almost enrolling in Texas State I was worried I would resort to settling for a university that may not be right for me. My family and I were blessed when my father Alex Bielawski became a full time security officer for DBU. My father offered to visit the school for the first time and I immediately fell in love with it. The friendliness, the professionalism, and the holy presence on campus was truly
From numerous computer labs to professional leaders in research, there are opportunities that will allow me to achieve my academic goals at UM that would be otherwise unavailable.
Athletics has played an instrumental role promoting success in all branches of life impacting my performance in school, work and other life facets. Involvement in athletics taught me the value of commitment allowing me to play in Division 1 Women’s Soccer while attending the University of Washington. As a former student athlete, I have been winning and losing my entire life developing my own resilience and tremendous work ethic to work with others toward a common goal. My drive spills over into my professional interactions and career aspirations allowing me to connect
Back when I was a senior in high school, I applied to Rutgers but decided to go to my local community college, Camden County College, due to financial issue and not wanting to put the burden of my education on my parents’ shoulders. I also felt that I was not prepared to take on a university and that going to community college would help me get a feel for what college would be like. Two years later, after working diligently, I am about to graduate with an Associates degree in Computer Science and the feeling that I am prepared to take on public university. While I am truly grateful for my current college, I felt that I was not too enriched in computer science. However, I want to continue my education at Rutgers to get more extensive and thorough study in computer science to achieve my goal. I hope to continue my education at Rutgers University to fulfill my goal of becoming a competent and knowledgeable software engineer.
I would consider myself to have been a very committed athlete in high school because I worked my behind off training for every season. Leaving my blood, sweat and tears on the track, not walking off of it until I felt I had accomplished what I set out to do. We don’t just run, we work. We work on speed, endurance, strength and technique. We work on teaching ourselves how running is mostly about mindset rather than a physical thing. We do this exercise where you run a 400 meters telling yourself you’re a brick, sounds kind of dumb, I know. But after you run another 400 meter telling yourself you are feather, telling yourself you’re like Mayweather “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” Without even realizing it, even after running the first 400 and being dead tired, we realize our times for the second lap were faster than the first! You have to tell your body what to do and be mentally in control so when you’re on your final 200 meters you can push yourself to limits you didn’t know you had. You will find very few track athletes who actually enjoy running themselves to death on a daily basis, but we do it because when you cross the finish and look up and see you name on the score board in a top place, you will want to relive the moment over and over again because it is absolutely priceless. Then when I received the letter telling me I had been offered a scholarship to run and jump at a D1 school, all the hard work I had been putting into this sport over the past four years felt completely worth
I have always known that I wanted to attend a top-tier university. The other details came later; the small size, the proximity to an urban hub, and my major itself. For a while, I was convinced that it would not happen; that I just wouldn’t get in. Now, I realize that I have an opportunity to do so. This is an opportunity I do not intend to waste.
My choice to attend FIU was one of the easier ones I’ve made so far in my academic career. I was drawn to the university as I felt a sense of community here that has only been further enhanced as a legacy, with both my mother and stepfather having completed their Bachelor degrees at this institution. The relationships and connections my parents were able to build here were a testament to FIU’s ability to bring together people from so many different backgrounds and create a family. I experienced an even greater connection as my stepfather found a lifelong friendship and mentor in an FIU staff member and honored him by making him the godfather of one of my younger brothers. Thus, FIU has been a special part of my life even before college was
Over the past semester in this class, as well as my other classes, I think that the readings, activities, and research done by my fellow students and I, were not only interesting but also confirmed my passion for forensic psychology, and the clinical forensic program I chose here at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Initially, I was enrolled in the Master’s program, however after a great deal of contemplation and doubt in my decision, I was grateful to be able to switch into the PsyD program and be confident in my future career path as a future forensic psychologist. Furthermore, I was pleased to read further about PsyD programs in forensic psychology and the benefits I will obtain through focused training in forensics. However,
Recently, in the past year my love for biology has developed into a passion. The opportunity to be able to pursue my career working towards a masters in biology as a Pilot, in itself would be a dream come true. Seeing that I have grown up in Oregon my whole life, my great familiarity with the city would be an easier way for me to focus more academically, than having to worry about learning a whole new set of life skills. Only 30 minutes away from home, 10 minutes from Downtown Portland, an hour away from snowboarding on Mt. Hood, looks to me like a flawless fresh start. I have been able to witness the great amount of pride the students at U of P have, while attending Pilot basketball games with my family for the past 7 years.
I have really high expectations for myself and what I am capable of this fall at Mount Olive College. I have very high goals for myself and have revised what I believe to be a well guided plan to achieve them. I feel eager and excited to unleash my mind, thoughts and the power of my determination. I know that it’s going to be a lot of hard work and its going to take a lot of time. Also, with that comes the bittersweet of sacrifice, of parts of my life that I am going to have to change in order to succeed. But my grandfather has always told me “anything worth having is worth working hard for.” I am my biggest critic and supporter all in one. I know that the only person that can stop me from doing what I came to do is me. No one else has the
Touring Dallas Baptist University for the first time in November, I felt part of the culture. The location of DBU is essential in my life because it allows me to continue with my services that already established. The short commute from my house to DBU is convenient because allows me to save money not to live on campus and stay in close contact with my family. As well, this will also give me a chance to continue my community service with St. James Parish in Oak cliff and in West Dallas. Additionally, DBU is prominent because it is in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which allows for a wider range of jobs, and networking opportunities. I am in the National Guard and my monthly drills are in Lewisville; this will allow me to continue with my current unit.
Personal Statement: Twenty years of education have brought me a deep appreciation for the study of the Power systems, Controls systems and Telecommunication. When the time came to specialize, my decision to major in Electrical Power Engineering was motivated by the hope of achieving a strong opportunity of creativity, research, and development. Electrical Engineering, with its myriad sub-domains and multi-faceted nature is a natural amalgamation that allows me to express my creativity and innovative power to bring about works that offer benefits to society. The tools and aims may be different, but designing and developing software/hardware or devising a novel mathematical proof is relatable to the work of artists in their shared spirit of creating. I view my decision to study Electrical Engineering as a natural means of fulfilling my need to create since it equips me with tools for the job: the ability to devise, test and evaluate Power systems and the programming knowledge required to implement them.
