P5 How to install RAM 1. It is important that you check the type of RAM that you require, RAM comes in a variety of types and speeds and only a specific selection will be compatible with your PC. 2. You will need to check how many sockets for RAM that your PC has, this will be on the motherboard and will mean how many sticks of RAM can be installed on your computer, the majority of motherboards however will have a limit to how much memory can be utilised, regardless of the amount of RAM slots. 3. Browse the options available to you for companies to purchase RAM form, this will determine the: pricing, quality and time in which you receive your new RAM. A few of the most reliable companies that sell RAM are: Kingston, OCZ, G. Skill and Crucial. 4. Now that you have the correct RAM specifically for your computer you will need to turn off your computer and unplug any extensions to it such as keyboard, mouse and monitors. 5. You will now want to turn the computer monitor on its side and remove the top of the casing so that you can clearly see the motherboard. You may be able to do this by hand, but it might require a screwdriver. 6. Discharge any static to prevent the damage of any of the computer components, you can do this by touching and plug with an earth wire or touching a water tap. 7. If you are upgrading to a new RAM you will have to remove the old one. Do this by releasing the clamps on either side of the RAM and it should lift easily out. 8. Insert the new RAM sticks
