Just how weird or strange are humans? You think of the outcasts in society and wonder just why are they considered outsiders. Are they really outcast or are they simply just misunderstood human beings. Some of our most brilliant people in the world were outcasts and strange, but overall they were seen as downright weird. Why do humans have to name these people we do not understand? We sometimes think of outsiders as people with mental disorders ,but many people with these disorders are geniuses such as Lewis Carroll. Outsiders are simple misunderstood people because most of them are geniuses. Outsiders are misunderstood geniuses. There are many people who have contributed significantly to the intellectual world. For example Ben Franklin, “he said to have favored air baths”(130). Franklyn would sit in a room that was cold and wear nothing which is regarded as very strange and peculiar in the normal, natural world. This gets Mr. Franklin considered odd and an outsider, but he is one of the greatest minds of English thinking for his correlation between lighting and the fact that it conducts electricity. Franklin invented the lightning rod, which is an instrumental device that would prevent fires thanks to Franklin’s connection between steel and attraction to lightning. Moreover, Franklin had made some of the utmost important discoveries of the time even though Franklin was an outcast. Franklin created his own alphabet “dispensing with the letters c,j,q,w,x, and y,and adding

One of the smartest men in the United States took air baths! This made him an outsider for his strange ideas. But outsiders like him are valued in society at some point or another. Even him. From the short story “Isn't everyone a little bit weird?”
An outsider is someone who is not accepted or is isolated from society. ‘Of Mice and Men’ is set in the 1930’s, where society considered many people as outsiders. During this period, many people were racist, sexist and prejudice towards disabled people. This is shown with several characters in the novel including Crooks, Curly’s wife and Candy who are all considered as outsiders in this novel, since they each had something that the society at that time were prejudice towards.
Have you ever seen someone that looks weird walking around? Well these people could be outsiders. You might think bad of them but they could be useful in society. For example eminem was a outsider, the people that took down the confederate monuments were, and they have unbiased opinions.
S.E Hilton’s inspirational book, Outsiders, is about a boy named Ponyboy and his best friends as they go on an adventure that will change them forever. I compared Ponyboy to myself and noticed many similarities and differences between the two of us. We are similar when it comes to social character, sports, grades, and even courage. Even though we have some similarities, we also have our differences when it comes to time period, freedom, generosity, and organization. I enjoyed comparing and contrasting Ponyboy to myself because he taught me that even though life can be tough, if you look on the bright side of things, you can find happiness once again.
Outcasts are always present in any society. Maybe it is someone who does not look like everyone else, has a different sense of humor, or just does not fit in. When an outcast is present in society, the remainder of society pushes the outcast even further away and continues to isolate them. This realization is shown through many different novels including Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley, Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare, and To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. All of these books include a person who does not fit in and is treated differently than everyone else.
What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you ever been an “outsider”? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren’t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.
Throughout history, countless individuals have broken the walls and boundaries set by his/her society. Martin Luther King Jr, Salvador Dali, Abraham Lincoln, Jack Kerouac, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Mahatma Gandhi are just a handful of these rebels and change-seekers who have impacted societies and peoples worldwide. Whether it be art, social justice, or creative speech, each one of these individuals has established themselves through various outlets of action; and, have left their legacies weaved throughout the threads of this worlds history.
Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? Whether outsiders are misjudged or misunderstood depends on whose perspective you view this question from. When you look at someone you are developing an opinion of them, and you may be misjudging them by deciding they are an outsider. While when you are the person being judged you feel that you are just simply misunderstood. You may have experienced one or probably both of these perspectives. Moreover to truly understand what it means to be an outsider you need to understand both of these perspectives.
An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.
When you think about outsiders, you typically think of someone who is different, and may not like them because they are different, but most outsiders have tapped or untapped potential in society. That specific thought is not the case. Look at people like Albert Einstein, and Beethoven. They were very successful people, it makes you wonder how you got there in the first place. They were outsiders growing up, they were the ones who overcame odds that defy them.
Homelessness has become a fundamental issue in many societies today. This type of problem is overlooked since it does not reflect the norms and values of our society. In many cases homeless people are treated as total outcasts as demonstrated in Giosue Petrone’s “Invisible”. In the film, the protagonist isn’t seen by society due to his homelessness. Social outcasts are disliked, discriminated against and stereotyped heavily. Hence, the primary them of the short film is being a social outcast because of the reaction that the bystanders give the homeless man.
Albert Camus presents ideas of identity and the human condition in his classic novel The Outsider, through his exploration of gender and cultural representations as well as an insight into absurdum and existentialism. These concepts of identity and the human condition reflect on the society in which the novella has been set, demonstrating how women, those of other cultures and those who are considered to be different are represented. The novella tells a recollection of events of a young man named Meursault, emotionally detached from a society where he refuses to conform to society’s conventions and in turn a refusal to ‘play the game’. The novella begins with the death of Meursault’s mother and ends with his
In Ryszard Kapuscinski’s lecture, “Encountering the Other: The Challenge for the 21st Century”, Kapuscinski argues that everyone is part of another group that is deemed the ‘Other’. Kapuscinski states that “Others are indeed Others, but for those Others, I am the one who is Other” (Kapuscinski, 22). Thus, being an outsider is a universal condition since we are all the Other to someone else. However, some might argue that being an outsider is not a universal condition as humans are by nature social animals so being an outsider is a rare occurence. To this, Kapuscinski also states that being an outsider is universal as “...the Other is a mirror into which you peer...a mirror that unmasks and denudes, which we would prefer to avoid” (Kapuscinski, 28). In other words, being an outsider is a universal condition even though humans are social animals because the Other is a reflection of qualities that define a person and humanity in general. The quality of being in outsider is universal as everyone is an outsider to someone else and outsiders are simply reflections of who humanity
