Outside of the Box Throughout high school, I have taken numerous advanced courses tailored to my passion for science. Courses like AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Honors Physics, and Principles of Engineering have helped me to not only build a strong, extensive foundation of scientific knowledge, but also to develop an essential skill set for effective studying, time-management, and organizing that will ensure my ability to excel at Penn State. In addition to advanced science courses, I also enjoyed immersing myself into intellectually-stimulating subjects, such as AP Statistics, AP Psychology, and IB Anthropology, each of which has broadened my scope of analytical thinking. My sincere interest in science, particularly in the biological sciences, is not limited to my advanced high school courses. In …show more content…
Within the specialized biology major options, I am especially tempted by genetics & developmental biology, neuroscience, and vertebrae physiology. Furthermore, I like the idea of living in the Biome because I can create many close bonds and new connections with similar first-year biology major students. Together, we will expand and/or reinforce our understanding of our biology course materials by individually contributing our own previous scientific knowledge. Additionally, Penn State offers opportunities to study abroad in its global campuses and personally, I would study abroad in either Beijing or Shanghai because it will also be a chance for me to better understand my own heritage and culture. My accumulated exposure and experiences in the biological field to date will provide the solid foundation needed to benefit from the golden opportunities that are available at Penn
Kalamazoo College offers an elite, well-rounded undergraduate program for science students of all natures. The popularity of Kalamazoo College alone shows that the undergraduate program can be trusted to help me achieve my goals if I attend. Furthermore, Kalamazoo College is known as an honors college, which shows that only the best and brightest students will gain acceptance and be given the honor to attend. I believe I am part of the group of current high school graduates who can be labeled as the brightest, and wish to surround myself with other like-minded persons so as to further my own capabilities and studies. The purpose of secondary education is to further increase understanding and knowledge of the surrounding world, in order to contribute
To achieve this goal, I have chosen to pursue the major in Biology with an emphasis in Human Biology. It is a subject focused on a broad integration of scientific material, recognized to prepare students with the necessary academic and character excellence for health careers. Specifically, at the University of California, Irvine, the Francisco J. Ayala School of Biological Science has created a system dedicated to providing its students a diverse perspective on subjects within the major. I hope to take advantage of specific courses - Organisms to Ecosystems, Calculus for Life Sciences, Neurobiology Laboratory - out of curiosity in addition to school requirement courses. I look forward to the exposure and new perspective on life that I could not have received in high school.
I was born the fourth of December 1991 in Cranbrook British Columbia. I lived there for 18 years. Before joining the military I worked as a fry cook at a Burger King for three years and held part time jobs working for the College of the Rockies summer camp programs during the summer. My parents are currently living together in Cranbrook BC. My father works outside the province testing railway tracks for two months at a time, then returns home for two to three weeks. My mother acts as the main contact point of the family, she works as a financial clerk. I have a 22 year old sister who will be attending university in Calgary this September. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook and graduated in 2009
My academic success is so important to me that I changed schools prior to my junior year to a place that offered more AP courses than where I was previously enrolled. I am proud of my success in AP Biology, AP Economics, AP English Language, AP Human Geography, and AP Environmental Science. My passion for higher learning truly surfaced in my ecology project and group presentation in AP Biology about polar bears. Although I found AP courses challenging, through my strong work ethic and perseverance, I earned top marks in all the completed courses.
As one of the few Claremont colleges that are known to focus on STEM, Harvey Mudd is the right college for me. If I were given the choice of where to spend eternity, I’d choose to spend it in a lab. I intend to study biology; it is my passion. I am a curious person who is always pondering with the question why and how. Therefore, to fulfill my curiosity, starting from the summer of sophomore year, I acquired a biology internship at Stanford University
Natural science has always interested me and has become an important part of my life. I believe that in the honors program, I will be able to discover more about nature and biology than I ever thought possible. Passion is another characteristic that I believe I have acquired for biology. A passion for this field has always been in my soul and it has always been my favorite subject. I wish to uncover the truth and solve mysteries about unexplained scientific problems. I have a great desire and - with the help of the honors program- resources to feed this passion and help me become the best scientist I can be. I have always had a driven nature and have actively participated in sports throughout my entire life. In each of these sports, I am driven to improve and to be the best player on the field (soccer) or course (cross country running). I have often been told that I am a competitive person. I take these comments as compliments. I believe that competition drives me to be a more successful person. Competition is something that has been a huge part of my life and always will be whether it be extra schooling or work. I also believe that not being completely satisfied is a good
There are few certainties of what one will encounter during life. A common joke names two: death and
If I were to conclude my education after finishing secondary school, there would not be many fruitful paths ahead of me. Without pursuing further education in post-secondary programs, life would be prolific with simplicity; there are those who advocate the concept of simplicity over challenge, but in a life abounding in simplicity, I see a life of tedium. By enrolling in post-secondary programs, I expose myself to novel challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, I have the freedom to explore my passions and satisfy my ambitions. In my case, I have a passion for biological sciences and knowledge, and a fervent ambition to gain as much relevant knowledge as possible. At a post-secondary institution, I am able to choose the degree that is
Biology affects many aspects of our life and is the key foundation for medical education and health careers. At USC, the rigorous academics will help me to understand the workings of life, down to molecular and DNA level. Biology has many ground-breaking discoveries that shape the world. I want to devote myself to biological research to make a difference in life. My life goal is that one day, cancers can be conquered, life can be saved, and hope can be renewed.
I started my life as a foreign student in 2009, and earned my bachelor degree in kinesiology with an emphasis on health science at California State University, San Marcos in 2015. The challenges for nontraditional students was vast; nonetheless, all my experiences have become key aspects of my life, and each of them molded me to become the individual I am today. So far, I am confident that I fit into the biotechnology program at California State University, San Marcos by reason of I gain passion and ability to conduct researches, academic confidence , leadership experience, and experience with diverse
Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. While native students of
With given a choice of what to write this paper, I could not get past the subtle nature of who we are as God’s creations. This fundamental truth of our identity is simplified with the truth of our identity in Jesus. We are created in God’s image with a purpose here on earth to display all of God’s greatness, His beauty, and to reveal all of His character aspects. Best of all, we are completely dependent on God. This new enlightenment of my identity in Christ as God’s creation will allow me to help people around the world become one with Christ by revealing the truth of their identity.
I have a wide range of skills and knowledge that I have acquired throughout my personal and professional life. I can communicate with different types of people regardless of age, race or class. I have accessed a huge range of courses that have enabled me to develop interpersonal skills including negotiation and dealing with different types of people and personalities. I also have the knowledge, drive and enthusiasm to work alone when required as I am self-motivated and can meet targets and deadlines. I believe that challenges are best met positively by developing and improving knowledge and skills and through professional reflective dialogue that leads to change. I am very hard-working and reliable. I work well under pressure achieving a high standard of work. I have practical and organisational skills and I can find solutions to problems and face challenges confidently.
At this university, I would major in General Biology. A foundation in biology will prepare me for eligibility into medical school and pediatrics. In high school, I took two years of Spanish and enjoyed it. I hope to study abroad in
Unfortunately, I failed my DSE two years ago, but, my enthusiasm in science did not dismiss. I continue my study in College of International Education of Hong Kong Baptist University (BUCIE), and chose “Nutrition and Food management” as my concentration study. As I know, the subject is strongly related to biology and have a higher chance for me to articulate my studying in local universities in the area of biology, especially the Food and Nutritional Sciences programme under the Life Science offered by your school. In this two year of studying, I have come across tons of subject related to Life Sciences such as nutrition through life cycle, food and nutrition and society, food safety and quality management, general chemistry, etc. These subjects include lots of laboratory lesson, food and microbiology knowledge which can surely help me do well in the future Life Sciences programme in CUHK. In my two years of studying, I do also listed on dean’s list, therefore I am confident that my ability fulfills the requirement of the undergraduate programme offered by
