Outreach and Revival The rapid growing city is a community that boasts more than 40 colleges, universities, and institutions. Houston is also home to the largest medical center in the world. And according to Houston Government website, the cities three-airport system served 49.5 million passengers in 2010, including over 7 million international travelers. It is safe to say that Houston in continually growing in size. Therefore, it brings a lot of attention to the city. That means more buildings, houses, apartments, more people. However, in Houston alone, the national Human Trafficking Resource Center tip line received more calls from this city than any other American city. What about knowing where the women prisoners get dropped off in Houston once released or the refugees fleeing from Burma into Houston? There are innumerable reasons why Houston is a city of outreach and revival. Human sex trafficking is often considered a form of modern-day slavery. Marie Leonard said, “Individuals are forced to provide services which becomes a violation of civil rights.” In the heart of Houston there are massage parlors next to daycare 's, across the street from bars, and even on the streets we drive going to and from our daily routine. Victims, which are mostly women and teenagers, get told they are going to do an honorable job until they unknowingly end up in a brothel. Suspects wind the victims in by threatening to call immigration, or by taking their documents so the individual
There has been big changes in the U.S. Since the turn of the century. I moved to Houston 4 years ago from Dallas and since then where I live in Houston has been changing every day. Its so remarkable within 5 years time a new community has been formed and its getting too crowed every where. New schools, hospitals, stores and roads are coming up every corner, when we think its crazy but actually the demand is getting higher. There is everything near you to meet our needs. But the traffic is getting too much in Houston, I think government can do better in that area and make less crowed.
There are many individuals in Houston living in destitution. I went and served nourishment to less blessed individuals downtown, and it influenced me to acknowledge that I am so fortunate to have the things and the life I do. Neediness impacts many individuals living in and around Houston. There is neediness on account of changes in the economy and also instructive holes. In the event that things don't change, at that point, Houston will see a lessening in instruction and a decline in gifted laborers. To end destitution, we can discover openings for work, ensure every tyke gets an equivalent possibility in school, and cooperate to help hostile to neediness
Human trafficking is a significant, but hard to spot problem in Houston – and across Texas. Houston is known as a hub for human trafficking, which involves young women brought here for prostitution because of our proximity to the Mexican border. One fourth of all trafficking victims rescued in the United States are found in Texas, mostly in Houston (McCall). In the year 2011 alone, there have been a number of arrests for Human Trafficking made in the Houston area as well as several brothels have been closed down. However, FBI reports at least two new brothels open monthly in Houston (Palmer). There are a number of ways to fight human trafficking including educating yourself, spreading the word, taking a look in your own community,
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use fraud or coercion to profit from forcing victims in commercial sex acts or labor services ("Human Trafficking".) It is a market-driven criminal industry that is based on the principles of supply and demand, like drugs or arms trafficking. Many components make children and adults susceptible to human trafficking. Traffickers target vulnerable people for a variety of reasons, including psychological or emotional issues, economic hardship, lack of safety, or political instability. Unfortunately, victims rarely seek help due to language barriers, fear of the traffickers and law enforcement, or fear of potential consequences. Knowing how to identify signs of human trafficking is the first step in pinpointing victims. Additionally, we can assist victims by modifying criminal policy, receiving more state funds, participating in organizations, and raising awareness.
Attention Getter: “Houston is a great city known internationally for energy, medical center, great food and Human sex trafficking. Picture this, there was this girl who fell involve with a military man and he persuaded her to move in with him to an undisclosed remote area. There she was raped and beat continually while being handcuffed to a door of an abandoned house. One day, she was approached by a middle-aged woman who had been watching her every move. They became the best of friends and did everything together, they were inseparable. Until one day she noticed a change in her friend and her friend that she thought she could trust turned out to be her female pimp. Also known as a bottom girl. The unthinkable happened: a client bargained with her for sex. After she refused his offer, he grabbed her by the hair, forced her on the floor and raped and beat her. In terror, she fled to the police to report the violence. Only to find that the she had no rights because she had attained the status of a “street-walker”. Eventually she was sent to Houston where her experience for human trafficking began” (NY State, 2011).
One of the major issues today in criminal justice is human trafficking. As a definition, human trafficking is the illegal transporting of people, by use of force, to be sold or sent to modern-day slavery (Homeland Security, 2017). There are countless methods of human trafficking throughout the world. Unfortunately, each one is more horrendous than the preceding. To elaborate, some types of human trafficking are Forced Labor, Debt Bondage, Domestic Servitude, Commercial Sex Trade, Child Soldiers, and Child Commercial Sex Trade (The United States Department of Homeland Security, 2017). That being said, the most widely discussed forms of human trafficking are sexual subjugation (Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, 2017).
However a majority of the girls are abducted or forced while many are attracted in other ways. Fake agencies sometimes posing as massage agencies lure in women into the trafficking industry. These women are offered money, free transportation to these agencies to work, with an agreement that the costs will be paid back through the woman’s earnings for her work (Hodge, D. 2008). Other girls are lured in through brothels, escort services, hostess clubs, and strip clubs (Kotrla, K. 2010) where they are abused, manipulated, and have been forced to participate in sexual acts against their will.
In this group project, we discuss two cities – Houston and Dallas about their own background, which we called story and the comparison between them as well. Firstly, this paper will describe the Houston city’s history and background, by using the timeline, it is easy to consider the economy, politic, education and transportation for each of the city chronology. In this way, we can finally discuss the characteristic and opportunity for each of these two cities; thus, give them various suitable solutions for the future plan, which we called blue print, to help the city expansion.
Human trafficking doesn’t happen in third world countries only. It doesn’t just happen to poor people and it certainly doesn’t solely happen to women. It is present here in the USA but it is hidden, and even worse, so are their victims. They are everywhere yet invisible. They are silently crying for our help through their eyes and smiles. According to Polaris, “…the prevalence of sex trafficking in the United States is still unknown, we do know that women, children, and men are being sold for sex against their will in cities and towns in all 50 states”. Human trafficking can happen to anyone even to Theresa Flores, the author of “The slave across the street”(“Sex trafficking” 2015). An average 15 year old American girl, coming from a privileged background and a respected family became a victim of sex trafficking and through her book, she convinces us that human trafficking doesn’t have a specific demographic.
Human trafficking is defined as a recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, of receipt of persons, by means of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, or abuse of power of a position of vulnerability for the purpose of exploitation (Human Trafficking Information). Today human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, has been one of the controversial issues in the United States and nationwide. In fact, it is now considered as the fastest growing multi-billion-dollar business form of organized crime. Also, Human trafficking is affecting the lives of millions around the globe and robbing the victims of their pride. As a matter of fact, Traffickers deceive men, women, and young children from around the world to force them into unspeakable
Images of foreign lands usually conjure up when the thoughts of human sex trafficking come to one 's mind. The United States of America is not immune to this type of horrific behavior. America is the land of the free and yet something as awful as human sex trafficking occurs in our very own backyard each and everyday. According to the Department of Homeland Security the definition of human trafficking is “modern day slavery that involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act” (“What Is Human Trafficking?”). In this research paper the reader will experience the savagery that comes with human sex trafficking and how it has expanded in the United States over recent years. Within this research
The standard way of thinking about human trafficking has been that it is a problem of undeveloped countries. Lamentably, human trafficking it is an alarming issue in our nation, states, and cities. The National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) acknowledges that last year (2014) 21,431 phone calls, 1149 emails, and 1482 online tips were made to report human trafficking in The United States. The same report presents that Washington is listed in the top 15 for human trafficking cases reported by state for 2014. In order to understand this scourge it is important to know that human trafficking “is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial
Slavery is a modern, pervasive problem. Human trafficking has been found in every state in America (humantrafficking.org). It seems that most Americans likely live within a comfortable drive of someone who is being exploited through human trafficking. There is a growing trend in human trafficking toward sexual exploitation (Bennetts, 2011). The Information Age has helped to create new opportunities for sex trafficking to flourish.
This exists as a global problem because no county is protected; human trafficking numbers has grown rapidly over the years, in relation to the escalating international sex trade. This type of practice forces an individual to engage in sex acts or labor against their will through coercive threats, intimidation, the elimination of any legal documents and violence under enslaved conditions. (“Global”) Women are often trafficked for the purpose of commercial sexual services, increasing their vulnerability to transmittable HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and brutality. They are held against their will in remote environments, these women have few avenues for assistance while they suffer vast physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their abductors. (“Global”)
