Examine the local papers. Have there been reports of defendants committing crimes while out on bail? Have there been reports of poor conditions in the local jail? How might these reports affect bail setting? Write the question out and answer with 1 page. I have did my research on people doing crimes while out on bail in my local newspapers, and I could not find any types of reports in my local area. There are crimes that have been committed while the defendant have been on parole. There are always poor conditions in the local jails every day that are talked about, and still nothing will never get done about it. Local jails are usually crowed into small cells. Odors are often strong and sickening food served does not always taste
In this document I will be comparing the security and technology differences, classification and holding of inmates and the size differences of the Wabash and Miami County jails. After going to the Wabash County Jail with my criminal justice class and getting information from other students about the Miami County jail. And touring the Wabash County Jail. I now have a better understanding of how jails are operated. I learned that jails operate in more ways than just holding inmates for a short period of time such as; hold witnesses for the courts, operating community based programs as alternatives to incarceration etc.
Upon arriving to Fresno County Jail, I had few expectations of the environment. My initial thought was there was going to be a ton of screaming and disorderly conduct just to scare us. I did not see anyone screaming towards us or anyone trying to fight us. I did see lots of gang sign thrown at us and few remarks to the correctional officers, but it wasn’t bad. The facility was dirty and smelt bad. Our tour guide officer told us that they have mice and other pesticide problem due to inmates taking their food to their bunks and leaving it there for a few days. One thing that amazed me was the underground tunnel because I would have never thought a county jail would have one. The underground tunnel is used to transport inmates to court.
No magistrate. Sessions judge or any court has jurisdiction to grant interim bail during the pendency of bail application in that court. Order granting short term bail should be quashed. If the magistrate, sessions judge feel that such a course should be adopted and it is always open to them either to dispose of the application on the same day and in the alternative release the accused on executing personal bond till the disposal of the application. It may be also pointed out that the applicant is entitled to claim the benefit of the proviso to section 497 (1) Cr.P.C which contains special provision for bail to women. Minors under16 years of age and sick or infirm persons.
Finding the right bail bondsman to facilitate the smooth bail of your loved one can be a challenging undertaking. While you want them out of jail as soon as possible, you should take careful consideration in picking out a bondsman. There are many bail bond companies in Victoria TX, but you want to choose one that is reliable and trustworthy like ABC Bonding Co., which offers 24-hour bail bonds.
That’s the more controversial topic, not the horrendous penitentiary conditions. It is a culture in place, where it seems like the norm, but it if far from normal. Everyone should receive a great education, and the same opportunities as others. No one should be above the law, and everyone should receive the same punishment for the same crimes. In the United States, taxpayers spend about 13,000 dollars a year to provide for an inmate. Lander university tuition is about 10,000 dollars a year. It cost more to send a person to jail than college, but most likely that is not going to
One problem in America is how inmates are treated. They are not treated like humans but rather animals, and dangerous to people. However, this is untrue. Some prisoners are not dangerous and some even assumed innocent. Our jail and prison systems treat offenders like they are trash and not worthy of anything in life. Therefore when they claim that they are sick they do not get adequate health care.
It is home to 2,500 inmates which is more than double what the facility was built for. The jail needs to be remodeled, but this is very expensive and will take an extensive amount of time, while the number being incarcerated is still growing at a steady pace. Most of the inmates at the Oklahoma county jail are only there awaiting trial, which the Oklahoma speaker of the house calls a debtor’s prison. He believes this is corrupt and needs to change. One idea that Oklahoma had to help with the cost of dealing with all its inmates was to make them pay for their stay. Inmates, that are ultimately convicted, are required to pay the expenses of living in the jail. Not only were they required to pay, but they were being charged even more than the cost to keep them. This is not the right method to deal with prisoners. Sure, the prison is saving a lot of money by having the inmates themselves pay for living there, but what happens when the inmate gets out of jail and has no money to his name, because all the money he worked for was going to the jail? The inmate will be back. They will most likely commit another crime when they are released. Not in all cases, but it can become a problem. If the inmates are required to pay, then what’s keeping the judge to sending them to jail. That means more money for the jail. It’s a hard problem to solve but America must face the problem of overcrowding at some point, before the system collapses in on
When your loved one has been charged with a crime, finding a reliable bail bond agency can be key to getting them out of jail as quickly as possible. However, when the freedom of your friend or family member is on the line, not to mention the property you put up as collateral, it pays to spend some time finding the best bail bond agency you can.
But unlike federal prisons, private ones focus on maximizing gain rather than saving money, and maximizing gain becomes possible with the business practices aforementioned. Not only has the prison itself been privatized, but also the food and medical care. One company in particular is the Aramark Corporation who provides food to prisoners at a lesser cost. If there’s one thing not to be thrifty about, its food, and this proved to be true when there were serious cases of prisoners being mal fed reported all throughout the system. There were 65 reported cases in Ohio alone of food failing to be provided or running out of it, and 5 cases of maggots being found in the food. The Aramark Corp. has also changed their recipes to include cheaper and sub standard ingredients in their food. These prisons are failing to provide these prisoners with basic human care, because the fact that they’re in prison doesn’t change the fact they’re
Whenever you imagine prison, you think up ideas and violent images that you have seen in the movies or on TV. Outdated clichés consisting of men eating stale bread and drinking dirty water are only a small fraction of the number of horrible, yet “just” occurrences which are stereotypical of everyday life in prison. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about the punishment which our nation inflicts on those who violate its’ more serious laws that keeps people frightened just enough to lead a law-abiding life. Despite it’s success in keeping dangerous offenders off the streets, the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of restoring criminals to being productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and wastes our precious tax dollars.
The major cause of mass incarceration in the United States is Bail. Recently there are several reforms that were passed, and there are several proposals under consideration to fix this issue. A lot of people that are incarcerated toady committed low offense charges. Hence, we need a fairer, and more effective justice system so that more people could walk free rather than being locked up. With that said, bail is used today as an entrapment, which opposed its original purpose. Most importantly, of the people that are in jail, 60 percent haven’t been convicted of anything. As we can see, mass incarceration makes our country worsted off, and we need to do something about it.
The overcrowding prison reflects that the inmate population has grown much faster than the funding for prisons, which is controlled at the state level. In most cases, state funding has not come close to keeping up with the rise in the prison population, leading to decrepit prison infrastructure that is wholly inadequate for housing such large numbers of inmates. Without capacity to house inmates properly, some prisons have resorted to having prisoners sleep in gymnasiums, and many have overcrowded cells to accommodate the extra bodies. This overcrowding has led to deteriorating cleanliness of prisons and declining safety. Today, non-violent prisoners are forced to live in close quarters with violent ones, and the results are predictable.
Having poor heath care within the prison system is something that is very dangerous. It can lead to things such as accidental deaths, worsening pre-existing conditions, and conditions occurring that could have been prevented if the proper care was
Consequently, the conditions in many private prisons are terrible, and oversight is limited. (Edwards, 2005)” If corners were cut then the private prison would be cutting its own throat. Private prisons were seen as unfit to house inmates that were sent to prison because the prisoners could escape easier in a facility that was not run by the government.
Throughout history into today, there have been many problems with our prison system. Prisons are overcrowded, underfunded, rape rates are off the charts, and we as Americans have no idea how to fix it. We need to have shorter sentences and try to rehabilitate prisoners back to where they can function in society. Many prisoners barely have a high school education and do not receive further education in jail. Guards need to pay more attention to the well being of the inmates and start to notice signs of abuse and address them. These are just a few of the many problems in our prison systems that need to be addressed.
