I believe that the artist is expressing himself when he is creating a painting, sculpture, drawing, etc. I also believe that art can be interpreted in many ways. One way that I thought an artist was able to express the way he thinks was through a drawing that was created by Otto Dix’s drawing Krigeskruppel (War Cripples). The time that Dix created this piece was the time of World War 1 (pg 40.) Dix was able to first see the effect that the war was having on soldiers. The drawing contains four men walking, to what seems to be downtown. The leader of the four men is smoking a large cigar and is needed the support of a cane because he is missing an arm and both of his legs, the next is man is also missing a leg and supporting himself by a cane.
This also shows his academic interests. He continues to share is ability to be artistic in this paragraph when he says, “I was an artist, always had been, and I would paint in their style, in reds, oranges, and rusts, on the rocks by the creek-geometric designs.” He reflects on his artistic ability and lonely despair when he states, “I lived in the worlds that I drew. ”(Paragraph 17) and again in paragraph 22: “I had painted a great Aztec pyramid under only black storm clouds, with nine masque-hideous faces upon it, one face for each tier. The lighting was angry and hellish and read, and an uneasy orange fire burned in each masque-face’s eyes.
To begin, the artist has depicted to people in the
Leroy Neiman was an american artist known for painting great artwork with brightly colored acrylics. A great impressionist, Leroy created most of his paintings with the feel and flow of almost a cartoonic vibe. His art is like he took an ordinary picture and completely recreated it with a childs coloring book. Colorful, bright, yet sophisticated looking.
Many scholars criticize Neiman’s work because of his splashy, kinetic, and jigsaw-like style however; these critics have failed to fully evaluate Neiman’s work. Neiman is known for capturing many split second moments such as many of Muhammad Ali’s boxing matches and other Olympic events. Receiving much scorn, Neiman’s works are often dismissed for superficiality and garish among the art world. The common misconceptions have failed to acknowledge the discrete hints that reflect the development of African Americans. Leroy Neiman's paintings capture juxtaposition between frustration and aspiration through dramatic brush strokes, contrasting portrayals of community development, and metaphorical placements symbolizing the possibility of opportunity
The two that I have chosen for this specific topic would be John Adams, and Howard Baker because they had both seemed to catch my eye. I would say that both of the artworks are about medium, however, John Adam's painting seems a little bit smaller as the height comes out to be 29.3 inches, and Howards comes out to be a total of 49.5 inches. I would say the most dominant of art in Howard Bakers artwork would be texture, and also shape and form. The color of his suit really makes the entire picture stand out very well and neat, compared to the background it has a almost "glowing" effect to it. John adams most dominant artowkr would be the form and shape of how it was portrait. The black coloring looks constantly repeating because almost half
And so he bathed in the blood of the lepers. Why would anyone want to bathe in the blood of a leper? They’re infected people. Rejected. Shunned. Unwanted. Useless. Or is that how society chooses to view them?
Raymond Pettibon art work, Untitled (The bright flatness), on page 535 fig 25-35 shows a tiny surfer in an enormous wave in a California landscape. The subject matter is a large wave that a surfer is riding. The content of the artwork could be how people are a small compared to the big world we live in. I think this piece of art was painted on with watercolor and a type of paper. These lines in the artwork is very loose and free. These lines in the artwork reminds me of Vincent van Gogh, The Starry Night lines in his artwork which are loose ,but the viewer can tell what the meaning of the picture is. In the artwork Untitled (The bright flatness) colors mostly used were the primary colors blue and red. The surfer is red and the waves of the ocean is blue. The wave color could be a local color that the viewers know the ocean color is blue. The blue color has different tints from dark blue to light blue. The wave in the art is three dimensional it represents the wave as if it was being seen in an ocean. In the picture, there is a highlight where the ocean has lighter white spots throughout the wave. Another highlight would be
The piece of art that I am analyzing for this reflection is, “At 54,” created by Riva Lehrer in 2013. According to her website, she used acrylic and collage as her choice of medium, which adds texture and multiple dimensions to a typically flat painting (Lehrer). The background is a textured blue, with gold star constellations towards the top. In the foreground is a white middle-aged woman in a pink outfit. She is positioned like a marionette with puppet strings attached to a wood tool to control the puppet, which she is holding and is coming out off of the canvas. Her outfit consists of a sheer tank top, which is held together in the middle by blue string, and a skirt held up by the same blue string. It appears that the skirt is coming out
Rembrandt has often been referred to as "The Painter of Light" for his innovative and influential approach to depicting light. Describe Rembrandt's approach to depicting light in painting. How is it influenced by Caravaggio's tenebrism and how does it differ or improve upon that technique?
The first painting is the Classic Landscape which was painted by Charles Sheeler in the year 1931. The painting has utilized calm colors such as white, light blue and cool brown color. In the painting there is a degree of symbolism which gives a clue on movement. This cloud suggests that the painting was to depict an auto plant. The movement is mainly suggested by the railroad track, even though nothing is actually moving. In addition, there is also a clue on movement which is portrayed by the clouds as well as nearby shadows. These shadows mainly act as a reflection of the landscape that has been created by the auto plant.
Many attribute the evolution of the French revolution as the catalyst for redirection of the style of artwork from Baroque and Rococo to Neoclassical and Romanticism. Two leading masterpieces that support this aspect are respectively: Jacques-Louis David, Oath of the Horatii, (c. 1784) and Eugène Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People, (c. 1830). As commented in Essential Humanities (2016), the French revolution “in all its heroic glory and grisly destruction” (par. 10) is masterfully portrayed in Delacroix 's personification of liberty. In addition, the summons for commitment to the cause of freedom is classically rendered in David 's vow of victory or death. Within this essay both of these paintings are examined in regards to their connection to the French revolution.
The two works of art that I have chosen to analyze are 1) Jordan Casteel. Miles and JoJo. 2014. Oil on canvas, 54” x 72” and 2) Aaron Fowler. He Was. 2015. Mixed media, 134” x 165” x 108”. The themes that these works of art represent in regards to the exhibit are love, family, and pain. However, they also fall into other thematic categories. The main theme that seems to apply to both “Miles and JoJo” and “He Was” is Human Experience. Additionally, these arts differ in some ways.
Walking into the gallery toward Untitled #9, the work looks to me just like a dirty canvas, particularly in contrast to the pristine white of the gallery wall. So my first instinct is to look at the work, dismiss it and look away. But since I have made a commitment to stay with this work, I try to ignore the surrounding paintings composed of vibrant color and movement that my eye gloms onto.. It's hard to pull my gaze back to the Martin work, but I do and then start to take notes on its components(the process of which has provided somewhat of a diversion from the daunting blankness of the canvas). It is a rather large, square work; I read that it is six feet by six feet. As I get closer I see that the square is divided into 9 squares high and 6 squares wide, each square divided into 8 narrow rectangles. It reminds me of the notebooks French students use , perfect grids to aid in Cartesian analysis - clarity as a means of finding truth. Like the notebooks, the grids on the canvas start to create a clarity and peacefulness in my mind.
This man in the painting expresses a natural form of well-being. The slanting nature of his back shows a man not so different from each and every man. His facial expressions give the idea of not perfect joy, nor contempt, but almost a look of bashfulness with
Francesco used a style that I really enjoy, it is called pittura di tocco and it is a style known for its small dotting in the art work and it's small but clean brush strokes. It's a style that not many artist can lock down it is very very advanced. He started in venice italy when he was passed down a shop from his father who was deceased and he worked alongside his brother to make and sell hand made paintings. His paintings are beautiful painting like the venetian capriccio which is a landscape painting of the molo towards santa Maria. He was born october 1712 and when his father passed away in the year 1716 and that's when he had the shop passed down to him, he was only 4 when the shop was handed down to him and his brother. He worked with
