Butter was a smart child but was never noticed. Butter set himself a goal, to lose all his weight before December, so he could gain enough confidence to stand up and talk to the girl he liked and reveal his true feelings instead of constantly lying. One evening Butter decided that he had, had enough and was going to eat himself to death on live internet and let the whole world watch. No one knew about him getting bullied, he decided it would be best to hide it.

As a third and fourth grader, I participated in choir. I enjoyed it then but decided to stop so that I would have more time for homework. In the beginning of seventh grade, when it came time to decide if you want to join choir, Maria Abbulone and I chose to sign up. We thought it would be a fun experience because we enjoy singing, and we had done it in past years. As choir practices began, Maria and I thought that it would be a fun experience for the year, and we might decide to do it in eighth grade. Scout isn’t into the typical girl things of that era. She prefers jeans and playing outside with her brother. Through Scout, Lee suggests that girls should be free to be themselves, even if it means going against the normal. Scout’s dad, Atticus, breaks the mold of what’s expected from men in the 1930s.

From my perspective, when Madrid uses the word “other”, he means anyone who is not the majority, anyone who is different. This could mean of a different race, having a different skin color, hair color, a different religion, and/or culture. For most Americans, people who are not white or straight (among other things) are the “others”.

Once there was a 8 year old girl named Ashely. Ashely is nice to everyone and wants everyone to be happy. One day at home Ashely finished her math homework and it was time for dinner. My father, a Mexican immigrant, left his crumbling hometown of Acatlán de Osorio in order to make a better life for his family. One sad rainy day Joe was walking home from work, Joe is 28 years old and 6 feet tall and has a large scar across his left side of his face. Marcus decided one day that he was done going to school for the day, he walked out and called his brother. When his brother answered marcus told him he needed a ride home since he lived clear out by skyview high school. “Standing on the world's summit, we launch once more our challenge to the stars!” Published in 1909, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti concluded his highly influential Futurist Manifesto with this emphatic line. But for those who have read Friedrich Nietzsche, this may sound familiar. Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of Nietzsche’s most well-known works, opens with an almost identical image, namely, a man at the peak of a mountain shouting his convictions at sun, whom he refers to as “thou exuberant star.”(Zarathustra, 53). During the perid in which Marinetti wrote the Manifesto, Nietzsche’s works were gaining popularity in Europe, particularly among those who considered themselves “revolutionaries.” Thus is is likely that Marinetti would have read Nietzsche extensively, and we can see evidence of this borne out in the text of the Manifesto. Not just in its philosophy, but also in its style and tone. In a way, the Manifesto reads very similar to Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil in that it conveys both the anger and excitement of the writer. Compare the following excerpts, the former from the Manifesto, the latter taken from Beyond Good and Evil:

Plate tectonics is the theory that explains the structure and motion of the Earth’s lithosphere. The theory states that the Earth’s crust is split into large sections called tectonic plates, and these move relative to one another creating boundaries at which plates converge, diverge and move past each other. Alfred Wegener pioneered the theory of continental drift in the early 1900s which he supported with multiple pieces of evidence. Perhaps the earliest indicator of the theory was the apparent fit of some of the Earth’s continents; analysis of these coastlines, notably the eastern edge of South America and the western edge of Africa, has shown that they are very similar geologically suggesting that at some point in the Earth’s history the landmasses were joined together. Another indicator that the continents were once distributed differently was geological evidence of glaciation in India – it is unlikely that glaciers could ever reach such low latitudes, but this problem can easily be explained by continental drift. Fossil distribution also provided some of the earliest evidence for plate tectonics – certain land-dwelling fossil species have been found in areas that are now separated by ocean, which indicates that those areas were at some point joined together. However at the time of Wegner’s work many of the geophysical tools that are used today did not exist making the theory much more difficult to support.
