Which of the 4 perspectives of organizational effectiveness do you think that Whole Foods reflects in how it operates? Support your answer with examples about the company. Open system: the perspective views organizations as complex organisms that “live” within an external environment. Whole Foods would be considered an open system because they depend greatly on the external environment in order to operate successfully. They rely on many organic farms and companies (of all sizes) to get their goods from. Also, they must focus on the customers needs in order to compete with other stores. They do this by changing the shopping experience altogether, and providing a fun and enjoyable environment, making the chore of shopping, well, not seem like such a chore anymore. They are more like a big family. At Zappos there are lots of fun activities to get the employees involved, like face painting, wacky parades, and gaming in the lounge on breaks. Employees have the freedom to dress causal and comfortable. The company ensures customer loyalty by closely training and mentoring their team, and at the end of training they offer their employees $3,000 to leave (most of whom do not except the offer after weighing the options). Besides their fun and supportive environment, Zappos offers their employees full health care benefits, free meals, and competitive salaries. Lastly, while many other companies have call centers located outside of the country, (in order to save money) Zappos call center is located in Loss Vegas.
