World War Two started with the prime minister of Britain declaring war on Germany in September 3rd, 1939. However, the United States did not enter the war until December 8th 1941, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. From then on, the United States contributed greatly to the battles against the Axis powers. Their involvement in the invasion in North Africa as well their leadership shown in Operation Overlord contributed greatly to the war by pushing the Axis forces further back and ultimately leading to the triumph over the notorious Hitler. US General Eisenhower took control of the invasion which eventually became known as Operation Torch starting in November of 1942. Under general Eisenhower's leadership, the soldiers were trained in amphibious warfare, small vessels were modified in order to create a sort of landing craft as there was not one, and the US forces and British forces came together to create a substantial army consisting of over 100,000 men. Operation Torch was a huge success, it led to the British victory in El Alamein which led to the retreating of German forces, this rapid experience of accomplishments soon put the Axis powers in a pincer movement, which ultimately led to their surrender on May 13th, 1943. Operation Torch also led to the capture of Rommel's forces in North Africa, it helped Allied shipping in the mediterranean due to the fact that Axis airbases were captured, it helped to relieve pressure on the crucial Allied bases in Malta, it encouraged resistant movements in Axis-occupied countries and forced Hitler to commit essential forces that he would have preferred to be on Eastern Front against the
