I never thought that one stranger’s mistake would change the way that I would think before I act. It was two years ago when I witnessed an unlicensed man accidentally run over his mother’s leg in an attempt to help her into their vehicle. It was after leaving the shopping mall when I was sitting in my aunt’s car that this occurrence befell. I noticed that there was not sufficient room for this woman to get into her vehicle. Her son then decided to enter through the driver’s seat and back up just enough for his mom to fit into the car. This did not go as intended. Not knowing how to drive, this man in his late twenties or early thirties unintentionally ran over his mother’s leg. It tossed her down onto the pavement, leaving her incapable to …show more content…
One thing I hope other individuals can learn from this is to do the right thing while assisting. This can vary. If you are one of the first people to witness an occurrence like this, it is vital to do something such as tending to the woman and dialing 911. If you arrive shortly after this occurred, I believe it is key to do something such as providing care for the woman. It got to a point where if you wanted to help, the greatest thing to do was to remain a fair distance away. It did get a little congested at the scene and although emergency responders were able to tend to the woman, it would have been easier if there were fewer people there. Do what you feel is the best thing to do. Another lesson I encourage others to learn is to not do something you know is wrong. This could be anything from driving when you don’t know how, to not buy a ticket for public transit. Just like this incident, making a mistake could lead to unfortunate results. Last of all, just like the lesson I learned, I hope others understand that you should never do something that you do not feel comfortable with. Tying into what I mentioned in the previous paragraph, you should trust yourself and do what you think is
Is it the correct thing to do and our duty as humans to help each other out? In the article, “The Killing of Kitty Genovese” by Michael Dorman, the author describes how a young woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed while 38 neighbors watched from above. One man yelled out, “Let that girl alone.” In effect, the predator walked away. Immediately after the neighbors closed their windows he came ferociously and stabbed her four more times until she eventually bled out and died. Overall, in this situation was it truly that hard to pick up a cell phone and phone the police? The failure to take action can lead to many more fatalities and injuries in the long run as it did in the case of Kitty Genovese.
It does not matter if fifty other people called for help, the driver could be very hurt and I will not just let someone else deal with it. What if everyone else did what my dad had done? They just said, “Don’t worry, someone else will do
Last summer, on Highway 1 in the stretch between Banff and the Okanagan in Canada, a tour bus rolled over at a sharp turn causing the deaths of 3 passengers and 20 other serious injuries. The driver, who had minor injuries, had been carelessly speeding and forgot about a sharp turn. In trying to keep the bus away from the cliff, he sharply turned the bus, causing it to keel over and slam into the cliffside. If he had been a more careful and attentive driver, the loss of the 3 people could have been
“BOOM SHAKALAKA” hollered the announcer at the top of his lungs. Every time an shocking race had been completed in the finals session and a record was broken he hollered that. And He should have especially for this race… I won’t say that I thought it wouldn’t happen in front of my eyes but how was it possible at all, much less in front of my eyes.
Screwed. That is the one word he would use, screwed. Sure things could be worse. He could be lying in a ditch dead or maybe in a shipping crate bound for Africa. Even still this was not much better. He loathed his job and everything to do with it. So a required work “party” was not how he wanted to spend his night. He considered “getting sick” but decided against it. Besides how bad it could be? He wouldn’t have to stay long and there would be free food. He decided he could bare it. Little did he know that his decision had just won him a sentence of twenty-five to life.
There are various actions the victim could have exhibited to obtain more help from the passing pedestrians. First, select one face out of the coward that are hurrying through, stare, shout and point straight at the person. Next, convey your message saying “You” Ms., start establishing who you are talking to by describing their clothing and stating I need help!
Mutual Mistake of fact is when both parties of a contract make an assumption of fact when contract is formed and signed. The mistake must significantly change what you have to do under the contract, almost to the point where it’s an entirely different agreement. Although, if you knew there was a strong chance or probability of mistake at the time the contract was signed, you may have assumed the risk of that mistake. You therefore cannot use the mutual mistake defense. Not all cases of Mutual Mistake are strong enough to void a contract.
In the first acts of The Comedy of Errors, Antipholus of Syracuse is inclined to believe that witchcraft is brewing in Ephesus. According to Linda Alchin, in the 16th century, Elizabethans blamed unexplainable events on witches. When there was an outbreak of a terrible disease, an animal died, or a house burnt to the ground, witches were blamed (Alchin). In our modern time, we have the scientific knowledge to explain these events and for the most part, do not believe in the supernatural. There are illusions to witchcraft in The Comedy of Errors that Shakespeare was endeavoring to disprove the belief in witchcraft and the supernatural, which was widely accepted in the Elizabethan time.
I agree with Nacole that it is important for our first responders to be well trained so, they can notice a victim when they see one. They could have lead her back to her family sooner and called her parents.
In the fictional novel, The Stranger, the heat and sun have an effect on Meursault's mood and behavior. The motif is dispersed and mentioned throughout the entire novel. The heat and sun can put Meursault in a pleasant mood, and at times a unpleasant mood. The two elements also have an effect his behavior. They are also a strong influence on the events and thoughts of Meursault in the novel. Heat symbolizes the indifference of the universe towards human life. The heat and the sun have a positive and negative effect on Meursault's mood and behavior in the novel.
“No matter how hard the situation is, always believe that something beautiful is going to happen. “ -Anonymous. Life has its own surprises in life. One day, you may be cherishing those major moments in life with your family and the next, you may never see them again. Similar to a tradition, it is the reason that you wake up early in the morning, it is the reason that you smile, and it is the reason that you inhale nature. What if you don’t get to advance through 2,000 years of your tradition? Wouldn’t you feel heartbroken and depressed? Life itself would be dreary without that significant event. The Makah were misunderstood for their tradition. Many believed that they were endangering whale species, but in reality they were supplementing themselves
The car was completely compressed so we weren't able to move on our own free will. The police had to shut down all four lanes of the causeway. Barricades were put up on both ends and no one was allowed near my car besides authorized personnel. While the fireman sawed off every door of my Envoy, three ambulances awaited us. Brandon on the other hand was in such bad condition that he had a fifty percent chance of living. I looked back at him and his neck was snapped forward and his mouth dripped in blood his face looked completely lifeless. His face was turning blue from suffocating from the seat belt that entangled his neck. They immediately sent Brandon on his way to the hospital on a Helicopter. You could hear the propellers of the helicopter wailing over everything else that was going on, even the sawing of the doors. One by one each of us were put onto a stretcher. Everyone soaked in blood not saying a word to one another and in a state that none of us were able to move. All I could hear were the moans of pain from my friends and the horns in the distance from the impatient onlookers.
One of the biggest reasons people do not help others in an emergency is due to not knowing how to help. When we are not familiar with certain situations it is normal to not know how to respond. In your situation, you helped as much as you could at the time which is really what matters. That had to be something scary to experience, especially being children with no parents around. It is a great thing the other girl was around to help and give suggestions, such as telling you not to move her much. Emergencies can occur any time of day at any time causing bystanders to either help or ignore the situation. Just as there are reasons as to why a person may not help, there are also reasons why people do decide to help. Although you were
Many people would probably say that if they saw an injured person, they would stop to help them. When put in the situation, however, would they actually stop? The United States of America does not require that pedestrians, who are not involved, help the ones who are. This is no excuse not to help, though. Even helping in just a small way could save a life.
People are scared to help during a crisis even if it’s a small one. Something else could go wrong as they are assisting the person in need or they may feel like they’d be too in over their head. It maybe better to help than to not, if anything more would happen during the initial emergency, it would not be the responders fault and it would be best to call 9-1-1 unless it is an emergency that isn’t critical. People are not likely to help in a crisis, because they misplace the danger of the injury and they have a false sense of security; depending on the first responders.
