1. The First three paragraphs in the short story On the Bridge was successful in introducing the protagonist, but less so in describing the setting. For example, it describes the setting quite vaguely by only describing it as, “He was leaning over the bridge, smoking a cigarette and watching the cars speed by on the highway beneath him”. All of the author’s diction is used to describe it as just a, “bridge”, with a, “highway beneath”, it. There are no adjectives to elaborate on these examples and there aren’t any other nouns to describe the setting.
