On the Battlefield
“A hill is another chance to climb.” Failure effects everyone on Earth. The difference is that everyone responds to said failures in different ways. Since I was young, I faced roadblocks. The way I faced these failures are what defines me. Even though it is difficult, I try to learn something from each of them. A failure that truly taught me a valuable lesson was the end of my senior football season. The events and lessons that I took away from this failure will help guide me for the rest of my life. I have always loved football. From my first time hearing my father scream and curse at the Vikings for the umpteenth time, to my last walk off the field, I loved the sport. I defy you to find another sport that does as much as football. It has lessons in winning and lessons in loosing. It has teammates, coaches, games, and friends. A reason why football is such a good sport is the friendships that it builds. In a way it echoes war. I know that sounds somewhat morbid, but when one stops and thinks, it does.

And, if one does not block “his man” or “tackle hard” the game cannot be won. Therefore, being on a football team forces one to plan ahead, know his or her job, and to put the team before him or herself. This is what makes most football players selfless. The position that I played every year of my football career was an offensive lineman. It is a tough job and one of the most important on the field. Along with the multitude of responsibilities, there is little, to no recognition. I knew this before I chose this position on the first practice I attended. My first coach played at the University of Notre Dame in college, and went on to play for our great country, overseas. The first thing Coach Foose told us has stayed in my mind since, “You will work the hardest and think the most, and never get a pat on the back.” I never realized, until I was older, that what Coach told us is true in
B.H. Roberts quotes Lieutenant-Colonel P. St. George Cooke: “The Lieutenant-Colonel commanding congratulates the Battalion on their safe arrival on the shores of the Pacific ocean, and the conclusion of their march of over two thousand miles. History will be searched in vain for an equal march of infantry.”1 Roberts goes on to say that “the only other historical marches that are comparable with the Mormon Battalions’ march are Xenophon’s and Doniphan’s, the former in ancient, the latter in modern times.”2 The United States was at war with Mexico, and president James K. Polk requested five hundred Mormon men to help in the war effort. After much discussion, Mormon leaders, including Brigham Young, agreed the Saints would benefit from accepting the call. Some of these benefits included such things as military pay, the arms, which the volunteers could keep, a monetary allotment for uniforms, and government funded transportation west. This seemed to be an answer to their prayers. What can arguably be considered the longest infantry march in history officially began July 2o, 1846 on the Little Pony River in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Football was the first sport I played in high school. I played in the position of right guard and my job was to protect the quarterback or anyone else traveling with the ball from the opponent. Playing football impacted my life. I was out of shape, and overweight. While attending football practice, I learn to work with others. All of my teammates and I dedicated time after school to practice with the couch and Saturdays by ourselves, so that we could stand out when facing our opponents. Throughout the season, not only was I able to lose the extra weight that I carried, I also gained confidence to try other sports and improved my physical and mental performance and
The position of president is the highest office in the nation. Many people believe in order to be president the person filling the office should have military experience. Since the 1992 the candidate that has won has had no military experience but prior to this year the majority of presidents had military experience. The public does not require their presidential candidates to have military experience and in the last few decades have elected presidents with no military experience despite the fact the country has been embroiled in the War on Terror. Presidents should be required to serve time in the military before running for this office.
Football is my favorite sport its when I get to hit people and not get in trouble. I’ve been playin day we got a program started in our area. I have put more time into football then almost anything else in my life over the past 7 years. Whens its the off season im weight lifting or wrestling
I feel the game is more of a mental sport. A players must be extremely smart at all times on the field. We play the game like a bunch of wolves but at the same time we are extremely educated on the field. I had many things that I valued while playing football with my team. A few things I really valued were the friendship with all my brothers, valued the team, the atmosphere during the game, and the game itself. This was important to everyone because we all felt the same way. Since we all had a lot of the same values it brought us closer as teammates. Because of this it made our team strong and there wasn’t anyone who could break us down. We were a family and a brotherhood and we all knew that. Even though sometimes during practice there would be scuffles and fights we always had each other’s backs no matter what the situation was. We all had great pride in the team we were the eagles and we would always be an eagle.
Have you ever met a combat veteran? Have you ever felt their pain or experienced what they have? Well, 18 A DAY just can’t stand it. That’s the number of veterans that commit suicide every day. That is 126 suicides a week and 6552 veterans that are lost each year.
In this essay, I will support the JP 3-24’s current definition of insurgency. It defines an insurgency as “The organized use of subversion and violence by a group or movement that seeks to overthrow or force change of a governing authority.” In CW4 Sicard’s COIN class we discussed that insurgencies mobilizes people and other resources to form an alternative to the state or government. As my historical example to defend this definition of insurgency, I will use the American Revolutionary War. The American Revolutionary War was essentially waged by insurgents, which were present in all the American colonies, which were still controlled by the British at the time. We were legally subjects of the British crown, but we wanted to break free
Football is a very fun sport, because your always moving. You get the opportunity to make new friends, hit and be hit by people. I have fun in football because it is fiscal and fun. I am in wide receiver but there are a ton of different positions. You can have fun either getting broken bones or not.
Battlefront, one of the most anticipated new games, is the third in a line of third person shooters starting in 2004 the first two being praised for great single player experience iconic space battles and bringing unique perspectives. Now that the third installment is out people are wondering: “does it live up to expectations and more importantly is it worth paying for?”.
If I were to ask any athlete what their favorite memory in their lifetime was, I am sure that most of their responses would include the sport that they play. While baseball and golf are both sports that I participated in throughout my whole life, nothing can compare to the brotherhood and bond that football brought to me. I played football as a small child. I enjoyed the short games and practices because I was able to goof off with my friends. I also began playing football during my sophomore year of high school but quit rather quickly. At this point in time baseball still had my heart and triumphed over football in every way possible. It was not until my senior year at Thomasville High School that I fell in love with the game of football. The team began six a.m. practices in early June. We spent over half of day running, lifting weights, sweating, and puking. There were times that I doubted myself and wanted to quit. The only thing that kept me going was the bond I was creating with my teammates. Football instilled hard work, care for my fellow teammates, and determination to finish everything that I had started in me. Football changed my life for the better.
Football is considered to be a game that instills positive life skills like discipline, courage, confidence and trust. All the players are dependent on one another and this is the reason why football is considered to be one of the best sports loved by everyone across the
Football is a game of passion, a time when nothing else matters and the only thing that matters is going out there having fun and fighting for the guy next to you. Football has always been something that I loved and had a wild passion for. I’ve made friendships and memories to last a life time and I can always be grateful that football did that for me. Now of course I’ve had some bad memories during football as well, I remember walking out of the film room on the last day of spring ball and having Coach Antle grab me and say “Gage, I think I want to try you at a new position, I want to put you at defensive end. We need you more there and we think you can really excel there.” I remember being so furious, I had played linebacker ever since I could remember and now the last day of spring ball my senior year everything was about to change.
Football is my favorite sport because it’s physical, fun and entertaining. Football is fun to play and exciting to watch. This sport is good for all ages. It’s a team effort sport, it takes the whole team to win not half. My favorite team in the NFL is the New England Patriots. They wasn’t always called the New England Patriots they was once called the Boston Patriots then they tried to change the name to Bay state Patriots but I guess the NFL rejected their request. I was mad when they changed the name because I loved when the name was Boson Patriots.
Army Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) continue to face significant challenges synchronizing air and ground operations through the execution of a Unit Airspace Plan (UAP). A well-developed UAP increases combat effectiveness by promoting the safe, efficient, and flexible use of airspace with minimum restraint upon airspace users. This paper does not propose a plan to solve all the challenges BCTs face. The intent is to share lessons learned from 2/25 IBCT’s Air Defense Air Management/ Brigade Aviation Element (ADAM/BAE) cell during our recent Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) rotation. Focus is placed on the development and implementation of the UAP. The major challenges discussed are clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of those involved with UAP development, the integration of both small and tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and how to best manage a synchronized UAP.
For a lot of kids, it’s not until it’s all said and done, and they look back on it several years later, that they realize the difference the sport made in their lives. They are proud of playing the game. Have you ever met anybody who accomplished playing four years of high school football, and at the end of that run said, ‘Man, I wish I wouldn’t have played’? It doesn’t get said. Football players aren’t perfect. Nobody is. But millions of former players, one by one, can recount the life-altering principles they learned from football. They know the value of football is the values in football. That’s why high school football – and particularly high school coaches – play such a vital role in our society. Our football coaches are on the front lines of the battle for the hearts and minds of the boys in our society.
