Omnipresence Of Art

Satisfactory Essays

This work deals with the importance of art in Virginia Woolf´s To The Lighthouse and Kazuo Ishiguro´s Never Let Me Go. After demonstrating the omnipresence of this element, we have a look at its function at different levels and discover a major aim: that of condemning some aspects of the societies in which both authors lived. In the case of the female writer the inequality among genders typical of the Victorian society and in the case of the male one, the excessive use of technology. Moreover, we find that both works parallel what is happening within them, which allows us to talk about them as pieces of art in which Ekphrasis is used in order to reach the aforementioned goal, as well as to restore the women´s and clone´s true identity.
