The intention to posting the paper’s citation on D2L was so that the student could look for the paper on the Ryerson Library website by using the given information. By figuring out how to use the library website and familiarizing themselves with the database system, future research purposes will be easier and more efficient when finding citable papers.

For libraries to remain a place for a lively exchange of ideas, librarians should be armed with the right knowledge and strong conviction to preserve people’s rights.

In LIS 600 students evaluate democratic principles, major information policies, ethical policies, and the role information agencies play in preserving information. In the paper the student determines the role of librarians in the implementation of policy and the role of continuing education no user relations.The instructor describes my paper as “excellent research and smart thoughts.” I earned a B for the paper. The final exam is a culmination of knowledge and discussion of ethical policies, evolution of policies, and education of librarians. These topics provide a knowledge base for anyone entering the library profession. The understating of policy also intertwines with other coursework such as the strategic plan. One cannot create a strategic plan without understanding information policies. I received a letter grade of A for the final exam. Instructor comments for the exam include “a job well done.” These artifacts for LIS 600 build a foundation of library profession providing the theories for future librarian and library development.

For this assignment I decide to call El Paso Library Main Branch because it was the only library that answered my call. My first option was Clardy Fox Library but the phone that Google provide was off line. I called El Paso Library on Saturday, September 5th at 2 p.m. because they closed at 6 p.m. and luckily they answered me. The person that took the phone was a male, I forgot to ask his name or maybe I do not remember his name at all. Going to the point, the first thing that I ask him was if I could ask him a few question for my communication class, fortunately he said yes. He was very polite. The authors rely heavily on acronyms to denote familiar terms such as “library media center” and “school library media program.” While fairly intuitive and easy to figure out, some readers may become distracted and/or frustrated by their frequent usage. Similarly, some users may not be familiar with references to the American Library Association’s Information Power document, which the authors presuppose the readers know. Fortunately, they do a good job of quoting and explaining the concepts from this document that they present. One unfortunate inclusion is the use of the term “white bread” in the discussion of racial diversity within the teaching staff on page 40. Some readers, such as myself, may find this term to be mildly offensive, as it seems to imply that a mostly white faculty is a bad thing in and of itself. While it is an unfortunate reality that minority groups are often grossly underrepresented amongst professional educators in our nation’s schools, it does not follow that more diverse teachers are necessarily better teachers. Another concern I have is that at times the authors seem to be encouraging new librarians to create more work for themselves than is necessary or professionally healthy, even doing so occurs within the context of building relationships with other staff (such as the suggestion to take on unwanted jobs from the technology department on page 159). Furthermore, it may be that the information on national and state standards is somewhat outdated given the rise of Common Core, but the general ideas presented about standards should still apply. Finally, I personally struggled to follow the discussion and visualize the process of doing a paper-based inventory system, primarily because I have never seen it done before. I have been a Library Assistant at the Palm Springs Library for a little over a year, and in that time I made progress in constructive relationships with my co-workers and supervisors. Suggested ways to improve work place procedures by increasing efficiency, enriched in my skills in customer service, active listening, and multitasking. My goals looking into the future is to improve on those skills; while gaining new skills and trying to avoid blunders. This library functions like many other libraries in its input, throughput, and output. It is most likely a non-profit organization that is funded by sources such as taxes, grants, and private benefactors. The library also likely runs on a quarterly budget if not a yearly budget and it does not often have to change how things are done. Because of this, the library by definition falls into a placid environment.

Because libraries hold information that is easily accessible, libraries should continue making efforts to modernize and stay open since there are local ones everyone can get to. Libraries have been an important part of education since Benjamin Franklin founded the first one in 1731, since they have been able to stay modern all of this time they should continue to modernize and make efforts to be relevant. There is no bad area of a library they are meant to be for the citizens benefit and keep people entertained and informed.

The Webb City Public Library serves as a learning and recration center for all residents of our community. The library offers user friendly state of the art access to information and a wide variety of materials to assist students and independent learners. The Library encourages lifelong learning and is a place for personal developement and discovery, which empowers every citizen in our community.

“The Library Card,” by Richard Wright is a strong essay on how books can affect and influence readers. Richard Wright writes that his first experience of the real world is accomplished through novels. He read an article criticizing H.L. Mencken and it tempted him to read some of his books. It was made to accommodate the residents of the District of Columbia, housed with books, printed materials and other sources of information. The library supports residents by providing them with environments that offers community meetings, reading diversity, equips people to continue learning, embraces diversity and helps build a thriving city. The library makes an effort and stress the importance of higher education for employees and supports them through the process. Libraries are storerooms for history book. Communities of diverse people use the library for research that prepare them for higher education. People should not have to worry about having money to pay for the service. For example, People goes to libraries to educate themselves. One of the many goals the libraries have, is to reach current and new patrons and engage them with their services and increase their information literacy. This goal is possible in part, by marketing, outreach and communication both within and outside the organization. My library system, the Sacramento Public Library employs 11 various medias that reach our target audience. Outreach is also a large part of the organization's success. This is not to say that the more tools an organization has, they are necessarily successful in reaching their audience. Libraries provide resources such as books and computers to a variety of people who may not have them otherwise. A great deal of people in society believe that with the rise of technology, libraries should not be so prominent although they continue to provide very important resources. “22 percent of library computer users (age 14 and older), the library was their only source for access to computers and the Internet” (Source C). In addition to the computer access, Orlando Park public library's calendar of events provides families with a wide variety of useful activities to participate in. Planned activities include Microsoft excel classes, EnvironMental clubs and teen ink sessions (Source B). All the events sponsored by the library are educational and valuable to a community population. Shank reminds us that, “People less likely to use-books include Hispanics, those without a high school diploma, the unemployed, rural Americans, and those with household incomes of less than $30,000”(Source C). Lastly, the author adds, that libraries contribute greatly to their community by offering digital reading access as well by letting patrons rent out e-reading devices (Shank, What Is the Role of Libraries in the Age of EBooks and Digital Information?). Overall, libraries continue to modify with the rapid advancements in modern society. Libraries offer people with enriching communal resources.
