Terra, a beautiful baby girl, was the daughter of Glenn and CoCo. Glenn and CoCo weren’t ordinary folk. They were king and queen of the large city Charleston. On the day of Terra’s birth, CoCo was enduring tremendous amounts of pain in her lower abdomen, as if the all mighty Zeus himself struck her with a bolt of lightning. The baby was coming and CoCo was stricken with sickness. The guards were rushed to retrieve the miraculous healing plant that was said to cure any illness. After almost an hour of labor Terra was welcomed into the world. Unfortunately, the healing plant didn’t have much effect on CoCo, but it was just enough to heal Terra. Chapter 8: Paul watched the Russian prisoners. Their voices reminded him of cozy homes. Paul was touched by some of the prisoner's brotherhood. He shared bits of his cigarettes with the prisoners. Later, Paul’s dad and sister visited him before he head to the front again.

What stood out to me in these chapters, when I read the first page which reads, “Abena, my mother was raped by…?” (Page 1). Her body was taken advantage of against her will and at the tender age of about 16. Even Abena’s friend Jennifer was taken advantage of as she was forced to marry a man that she didn’t want to. It seemed as though men were an evil that plagued the lives of women and young girls. Second example is, when talking to the spirits of Abena and Mama Yaya, they often said to her, “Why can’t women do without men?”(Page 15). Every time Tituba was with another man they slept with her. Ela ran in front of the family and planted her sturdy body like a mountain between the hunters and the babies standing in a position of charge. With her ears backward, her long trunk swinging from side to side she aggressively trumpeted. Her small amber eyes filled with undaunted resolution. But the hunters weren't afraid of Ela, they rose their rifles ready to shoot her!

On page 51 the the second paragraph says "But he had to admit that on the days when Attean did not come the hours went by slowly." Attean didn't even like the lessons that Matt gave him. Although, Attean hated them he still went to Matts house. Therefore I believe that Attean only goes for company. Matt may feel the same way, maybe he feels lonely too. This is why I think that Matt feels like the hours go by slowly.

Tim “O” Brien has felt a lot of shame telling this story and it wasn't easy for him to relieve some of the pressure. “My mother and father were having lunch out in the kitchen. I remember opening the letter, scanning the first few lines, feeling the blood go thick behind my eyes. I remember a sound in my head. It wasn't thinking, just a silent howl.” (p2/4) Tim has gotten a letter to fight a war that the us didn't understand and that he didn't like so he feels like he's too good for war, and feels the blood behind his eyes go thick. He couldn't, couldn't go to war.

ME) Paul now you have all of the necessary information to you along your journey. It will not be an overnight fix, However if you stay committed to steps we both agreed on you will be just fine.

The second some portion of this book is more centered around how Augusts cherished one feel about him and with him. I welcome the writer for taking from August family and companions point of view since it will help perusers comprehend the story better with more noteworthy profundity and feeling. For example, just August's family can catch superior to anything anybody what he needs to experience. A decent illustration of would be that they generally guard August against open and never dither. To me, creator's message was excessively mindful individuals of how little acknowledgment we have, and how little we bargain? I trust that on the off chance that it was my kin in August spot I would act likewise to August's kin and folks. It is just characteristic that we think more about our blood relations than whatever other relationship.

The underworld seemed to be getting colder and I couldn’t tell if it was because I’d fled the room that was lit or because Hades’s heart had been nearly ripped out. I was weeping pretty hard by now, feeling awfully betrayed and as lonely as my injurer. I felt my way around in the darkness for a while, thankful to the slight bluish glow that seemed to at least partially lighten ones way down in the underworld.

The novel opens with a narrative directive, presumably to the reader: Imagine a ruin so strange it must never have happened. First, picture the forest. I want you to be its conscience, the eyes in the trees. What is the effect of this directive on you as a reader? What does it suggest about the novel that’s about to unfold? As Orleanna continues her narration, who does the “you” that she is speaking to appear to be? To what great disasters does she allude? Why is she telling the story looking back (past) on Africa while the girls seem to tell it as if it’s happening (present) in Africa? “And now we are here” (Kingsolver 13).

1. Something that is ironic about Jack’s knowledge of German is that he, as a person who should be acknowledged of the language, can barely pronounce a word. As a Hitler expert, Jack, the narrator of the book, should at least be able to speak German quite fluently since he has been doing research of the language for a few years. It is also ironic because he even hires an individual who is fluent with the language to teach him even though, as a Hitler expert, he should be doing so.
