In the book Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck demonstrates as long as people have a friend people will never be lonely. Lennie and George have only each other. Even though it is just George and Lennie, Lennie still looks up to George because George has been the one that has been taking care of Lennie for a really long time and also because Lennie is not capable of being on his own because he is mentally handicapped. At the beginning Lennie and George were not alone they had more than just each other they had a family but then it was time for them to go off and work for there own stuff, and from then on it was just them two together. The reason that George did not go on his own was because Lennie is mentally handicapped and is not capable of …show more content…
If George would not have been there for Lennie then Lennie could be dead right no because he is such a big guy with very strong hands and that is why is can be considered dangerous because of his big and strong hands he could easily kill somebody and do it by accident and people would say that he should know better but in all honesty he does not know any better because they do not think before they act they just do what they just do and they do not think about the consequences because some of them do not think like us. Lennie needs George to be there for him because if he was to commit a murder where would Lennie go back to the bushes and wait for somebody to come and shoot him or is he gonna wanna stay there and fight people that is another good reason why Lennie needs George because George knows what to say or do to calm him down
Some people think that George did not do the right thing by killing Lennie because there were alternative options for shooting him. But, if George and Lennie decided to run away, they would be running their whole life, and if George decided to turn Lennie in, he
One reason George shouldn't shoot lennie is because due to his mild mental disability lennie looks up to jeorge. Lennie believes in wholeheartedly. Lennie is a large lumbering childlike migrant worker. George is obviously devote to lennie, Lennie is slow and acts like a little kid sometimes, George said, “ There was splashing down at the river. “ (steinback 8) Lennie was splashing water with his fingers. In my conclusion lennie is to slow to know what he is doing bad or good .
The first reason George should have shot Lennie is because he cannot learn from the things he has done. In the book it says “Oh, so you forgot that too, did ya? Well, I ain’t gonna remind ya, fear ya do it again” (Steinbeck 7). The reasoning for this is to show how Lennie forgets things easy and how fast he forgets it. Also it shows that George has to remind Lennie
By George killing Lennie, he’s giving himself a better opportunity to travel and be successful on his own. Because of Lennie’s mental retardation he can not use his brain or think before he does the things that get him in trouble. Mental retardation is defined as "significantly sub-average general intellectual functioning existing concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior and manifested during the developmental period." (“Mental Retardation” 2). This definition of mental retardation relates to Lennie because he has sub-average intellectual problems which is why he is unable to remember things or process them easily.
If Lennie wasn’t around, George would have had an easier time when not trying to constantly take care of Lennie. Trying to get him out of trouble and making sure he survives and earns
Lennie is a large slow and a bit childish due to his mental disability. George is small, rough, bright but short tempered man that travels and cares for lennie. On page 14 George was talking to Lennie about how guys like them are lonely, they have no family or place to go. Unlike themselves they have a future and theycare for eachother. Then lennie says happily “But not us! Ah’ why? Because.. Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you and that's why” this shows that George and lennie have each other's back and they're basically each other's family and if they ever got lost or separated, they had a specific spot to go find each other so they wouldn't have to worry where they would be.
George had thought about life without Lennie before and he even has mentioned it to Lennie. He implies that Lennie is a type of burden in his life and it would be much easier without Lennie. George didn’t have to take care of Lennie but now that he did he can’t just leave Lennie behind. Lennie needs the
Even though George could have an easy life without Lennie, he chose to care for him. This can be shown when George expresses, “I want you to stay with me, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody’d shoot you for a coyote if you were by yourself.” (Steinbeck 12). George would have never pulled the trigger if it wasn't in Lennie's best interest.
Some may argue that George and Lennie could have ran away together; however, they would always be running from the law. Furthermore, some may say that George could have let Lennie run away by himself, but Lennie is not mentally capable of taking care of himself, and the law would always be looking for him until they put him in prison. George made the right choice by killing Lennie because Lennie was in a lot of
George should have defended him and protected him from everyone who went out to harm him. Without Lennie, George will be alone, he will have no one to work with or travel with. In the beginning of the book George had told Lennie, “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place… With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.” Now George is back to the beginning, to where he was before he met Lennie, not having anyone.
Are you really as lonely as you think you are? In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the two main characters Steinbeck focuses on, are George and Lennie. Lennie is very childish and cannot do things without someone to help him. George is very independent, but he looks after Lennie, and is like a father figure to Lennie. Lennie gets in trouble in there old town, so him and George leave town and go to find a new job. When they arrive at their new job, George tells lennie not to speak, so he doesn't blow their opportunity at this new job. After the ranchmen see Lennie work, they are very interested in having Lennie and George work on the ranch. Lennie later in the book, kills one of the worker's wives and runs away and hides. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the book focuses on the idea of loneliness, 3 characters that portray loneliness are George, Crooks, and Candy.
In case of Lennie gets in trouble George told him to go to a specific location where he would go meet him. George tells Lennie, “Lennie-if you jus’ happen to get into trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush.”(Pg. 14) george uses Lennie's obedience toward him to his advantage. George tells Lennie what to do in specific situations. Plus George's power over Lennie is so great that he could make him do things he doesn't want to. George exclaims, “I said get i’m.” Curley’s fist was swinging when Lennie reached for it… He stood crying, his fist lost in Lennie's paw.”(Pg 63-63) Lennie would listen to george in any situation. George commanded Lennie to defend himself and he obeyed. Lennie is completely obedient to George but that obedience also has the possibility to cause
George thought what he was doing was the best for Lennie, when in reality Lennie could have survived on his own. George thought since he was responsible for Lennie, he could decide huge life decisions for him, but he can not. George was wrong for killing Lennie. We only get one life, you should not take it away from
It is not his fault for being such a strong man who can not control his strength and George should understand this concept. The American Dream has been these two men’s only focus for a long time and now that George killed Lennie, he will give up on that dream. Lennie kept the two constantly hoping and looking forwards to the future and their happy, easy lives. George should have asked himself, was worth it to kill his best friend? What will George do now that he is alone?
Both Lennie and George would be nothing without each other. Steinbeck clearly shows how important friends are and how they can support and help you in a number of different ways. Lennie needs George for basic survival and without him, Lennie’s life would not be very long. George on the other hand, needs Lennie for a purpose in life. The conclusion of the novel Of Mice and Men illustrates what life would be like for George and Lennie without the other.
