Have you ever felt sad and gloomy, but also felt extremely happy in the same day? I believe that electric indigo is the best color to represent the book Of Mice and Men because it represents sadness, happiness, bravery, and excitement. The indigo represents the sadness and fear when Lenny ran away from the farm. The indigo also represents the sadness and bravery of George when George shot Lenny. The Electric represents the excitement, happiness, and hope when George and Lenny were on their way to get a fresh start. The indigo represents the sadness and fear when Lenny ran away from the farm. For example: "I guess Lennie done it, all right,” he said. “Her neck’s bust. Lennie coulda did that.” George didn’t answer, but he nodded slowly. His …show more content…
This quote shows the bravery of George. "And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied." (Steinbeck 99%). This quote is very important because it shows how much bravery George had to have to shoot his best friend. The reason why this requires bravery is because George knew that if Curley would get to Lenny, Lenny would die a horrible death, but if George got there first, he could kill him painlessly and kill Lenny while he was happy. Even though this is a horrible scene to picture, George is still incredibly brave for his actions. He saved Lenny from suffering and Lenny got to die thinking of the perfect farm house where George said he was going to live. Even though it might not seem like it, George is a true friend and extremely brave for his actions. This represents indigo because blue represents bravery, and indigo is a shade of blue. Since indigo is a shade of blue, it's not fully blue. This shows that the bravery is hidden in the scene. You have to look closer to observe it, just like the indigo, you have to look closely to observe the
She expressed this by the use of colors, such as black and white from the brighter colors, which added more depth to the story. The colors black and white represented the bad times in life, and the brighter colors meant for the happy times. Living in a black and white world meant that you were always looking for the brighter days in life. One example of this from the story is when Johnny is dying and he says, “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold…” (Hinton 148) Johnny had realized that he and his gang were living in a black and white world filled with horrible times. He tells Ponyboy to stay gold, which meant for him to strive to be the light in a very dark world. Throughout the story, Ponyboy is often caught looking for the brighter times in life. “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. (Hinton 1) Not only is Ponyboy often looking towards the brighter side of thing, his brother Sodapop is as well. Ponyboy describes Soda as being “happy-go-lucky and grinning.” Ponyboy loves this aspect of his brother, and wishes his brother Darry was more like him. But, Ponyboy thinks of all Darry has been through and the sacrifices he makes for his brothers on a daily
“Lennie was in a panic. His face was contorted. She screamed then, and Lennie's other hand closed over her mouth and nose. "Please don't," he begged. "Oh! Please don't do that. George'll be mad." … "I don't want you to yell. You gonna get me in trouble jus' like George says you will. Now don't you do that." And she
Any good person does not want to watch a friend to be hurt, and George is no exception. George is most worried for Lennie when Curley says ‘“i’m gonna shoot the guts outta that big dumb bastard myself, even if i only got one hand.”’ (steinbeck 48). this is when Curley, Slim and Carlson are getting together to find Lennie and hurt him and kill him. George thought
Although Lennie has the mental capacity of a child, he is innocent to doing anything wrong to George. George just seen him as a potential threat.
It's been four months, the doctors don't know what else they can do. You don't want to accept it but, she tells you to. Your daughter, your own flesh and blood, pride and joy, is begging you to stop the pain and suffering with her big cloudy doll eyes. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, one of the main characters, George, had come upon an unthinkable situation, where he best friend, Lennie, murders the wife of Curley. George faces the decision to weather let Lennie live, and suffer from Curley's vengeance, or to end Lennie's life permanently, and save him from suffering. The novel makes it clear that mercy killing, the act of putting an animal or human down painlessly without suffering, is a human way to show compassion towards
In the book Of Mice and Men many bad and good things happen to the protagonists George and Lennie. Overall, more bad things happen than good. That is why I think the color red represents the book the best. Red represents this book because there is death, there is evil, and there is power. All of these things are associated with the color red. Also, all of these things have a role in the book Of Mice and Men. All of these things can cause emotion which is another thing the color red represents. When there is death people are sad and angry, when someone is evil this usually causes anger, and power can cause many emotions. There are many other things that the color red represents can these are only a few of them.
Steinbeck’s story Of Mice and Men represents the color red because of all the cold feelings passed around between George and Lennie and everyone around them. This is displayed by Lennie’s behavior, George and Lennie moving around, and people’s actions around them. Lennie’s behavior throughout the book is questionable. He is mentally unstable and he can sometimes be moody.
“And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie's head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger. The
During the scene of Adam and Barbara in their house after their death, the color appears to be orange. The color orange could can represent escapade, because they were about to launch into a long adventure. In addition, the color green appears when Adam and Barbara enter the afterlife services office. The color green can represent nature.
I shivered and looked at the gun, and then threw it away from myself, back up on the bank, near the pile of ashes. Eyes filled with dread, I sank to my knees and covered my face with my hands. The wind whipped back and forth but all I could do was stare at the person who once was my friend. Slim’s voice shouted. “George. Where you at George?”
He is a representation of the lives of the mentally disabled, which are often controlled by others in order to maintain safety. Throughout the book, many examples of George expressing control over Lennie’s life can be observed, however one of the most clear examples of this control is the scene in which George decides to kill Lennie in order to spare him from his impending doom. This is an example like many others, but it is fundamentally different in that it shows the most extreme of cases, one in which the decision of whether one’s life should or should not end is made by someone else with no regards to the opinions and choices of the person to which this is most concerning, he who has a gun held against his head. This last choice is denied from Lennie, just like every other before
George saved Lennie by shooting him with a gun in the back of the head. It was fast and painless, but Curley had other plans for Lennie, “We oughtta let ‘im get away. You don’t know that Curley. Curley gont’ta wanta get him lynched. Curley’ll get ‘im killed”( Steinbeck 94). Candy knows that Curely will lynch Lennie if he finds him. George knew he had to find Lennie before Curley. George decided to shoot Lennie because he knew Lennie would have either been locked up in jail his entire life, or have been beaten up and lynched by Curley. After George shoots Lennie, Slim reassures George that he did the right thing, “You hadda, George. I swear you hadda”(Steinbeck 107). George needed Slim to let him know that it was the right thing to do. Slim gave George closure, because George was in awe. George realized he did the right thing after he followed Slim out of the
In order for Jack to come to power, he uses the boy’s fear of the island while telling them that he will lead them to hunt and kill the beast. Currently, on the island, the beast was in everyone's thoughts and dreams. During the night, the littluns would scream during their sleep due to a figure known as the beast. Jack exclaims to Ralph that there was no beast on the island and there is nothing to be afraid of. Later on, in chapter 5 during an assembly, Jack declared that “...We’re strong–we hunt! If there’s a beast, we’ll hunt it down! We’ll close in and beat and beat and beat–!” (91). Jack is exclaiming to the boys that there is a beast and he will hunt it down and beat it, even though he previously said to Ralph that the beast is a myth
A defining characteristic represented in Steinbeck's novel, Mice and Men is ableism. Lennie exhibits ageism when he targeted by George, for forgetting something. “George scowled over at Lennie. ‘So you forgot alwready, did you? Jesus christ crazy bastard!’” This quote on page three proves how in even the start of the book, Lennie is facing verbal abuse for his inability to remember things. Those facing ableism are generally not as smart or knowledgeable as those who aren't.
In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, it is about two friends. One friend was large but had a mental disability, Lennie, and the other friend is intelligent and average, George. The two friends can't stay and work at a place for too long because Lennie always gets into trouble and they have to find another job. When George and Lennie finally found a ranch to work at, Lennie kills Curley's wife, the boss's son's wife, accidentally so George kills Lennie. Although George is better off without Lennie, now he is going to be as lonely as the other characters. Loneliness can affect a character's actions and choices, by causing them to be mean, isolated, and seeking for someone's attention.
